A day after Nana Patekar smacked a pesky teenaged boy for attempting to click a selfie, the veteran actor on Thursday profusely apologised, terming it as a case of “mistaken” identity, though the purported act was part of his upcoming film ‘Journey’ sequence, here.
Under massive fire for apparently losing his cool and roughly whacking the young boy who sneaked in from behind to click a selfie with him on Wednesday, Patekar said the scene on the viral video was actually a rehearsal for a sequence on similar lines.

“We had done one take when a person comes frombehind and asks, ‘Will you sell me your hat’, and I whack him saying ‘stop such nonsense’ and pushed him off,” said Patekar.

Varanasi (Up), Nov 15 (Ians) The usually composed veteran actor Nana Patekar apparently lost his cool while making a public appearance in a market place in Varanasi, as seen in a viral video that emerged on Wednesday.
In the video, Patekar can be seen clad in brown check suit with a fawn-coloured hat and a scarf, smiling and waving to his fans with his salt-and-pepper beard prominent.
Suddenly, a pesky fan crept up from behind and stood momentarily with Patekar – apparently too close for comfort – and raised his mobile phone to click a selfie.
Irked by the brazenness of the unidentified teenager, Patekar gave him a whack on the rear side of his head and as the boy lunged ahead, a security personnel dragged him and pushed him away from the spot.
As the youngster was packed off, Patekar turned around and pointed a finger at him, probably as a mild...

After Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri pulled off a sleeper hit last year with ‘The Kashmir Files’, which was as much a box-office success as it was hugely controversial, expectations were high from ‘The Vaccine War’, the director’s take on the story of Covaxin.
‘The Vaccine War’, starring Nana Patekar and Pallavi Joshi in the lead roles, however, has had a terrible run in its initial four days at the box office.
The film, according to the trade website Sacnilk.com, has reported a net collection of Rs 6 crore. The figure includes a projected net earning of Rs 2.5 crore on Sunday, which will only be confirmed on Monday.
Compare this with the Rs 27.15 crore ‘The Kashmir Files’ made on its opening weekend, after starting with Rs 3.55 crore on Day One. And of course, it ended up making Rs 250.41 crore, which sealed its positions as one of the top-grossing movies of 2022.

The Vaccine War
Directed by Vivek Agnihotri
Apart from Raima Sen’s over-the-top villain’s act as a journalist who has sold out to the American cause, the characters in The Vaccine War are tenable and almost uniformly restrained and believable.
Unlike the last time when many of Vivek Agnihtori’s critics felt he went overboard in demonizing Kashmir’s anti-Pandit drive, this time Agnihotri makes the arching endeavour to show the birth of India’s first Covid vaccine as a celebration of women’s empowerment.
Admittedly the women , excluding Raima Sen in her vamping avatar, are gracefully portrayed. Pallavi Joshi and Girija Oak are reasonably effective as scientists toiling at the Indian Council of Medical Research to bring out an Indian vaccine in a run against time that became headlined in a section of the press as a battle between over-ambition and efficacy.
Portions of the storytelling are admirably constructed,...

Some filmmakers do get carried away with adulation from a section of movie-watchers who are out and out rabid supporters of an ideology. For obvious reasons, their captive audience is charged up and won’t listen to any contrarian opinion from another group of followers. Vivek Agnihotri, who is hellbent upon proving his loyalty to the present ruling dispensation, has been making movies with a single-point agenda: to flag as biased an opinion that is contrary to the one he professes and rewrite history to suit his extreme right-wing beliefs.
Two of his earlier films, ‘The Kashmir Files’ and ‘The Tashkent Files’, tried to create the myth that he believes is nothing but the truth. Really?
I am all for political affiliation, but when it comes to the arts, such loyalties should not interfere with the body of your work to the extent that it degenerates into propaganda.

Director Vivek Agnihotri’s bio-science film ‘The Vaccine War’ has released a hard rock version of the Rigveda hymn ‘Nasadiya Sukta’. Combining the traditional sonic aesthetics of mantras and its complex intonations in Hindi, this rendition gives a hard rock touch to the Hymn of Creation, feeling extremely serious and yet calming and peaceful.
‘Nasadiya Sukta’ from ‘The Vaccine War’ features heavy and hard edged rock riffs combined with traditional folk music reminiscent of classical Carnatic style, complete with sitars, chanting and shreddy guitar solos.
The production is booming loud with a very fine audio design, the bass is a bit subdued and the drums are simple though don’t have a loud enough impact on the snare or the cymbals.
But that can very easily be ignored due to the power packed guitar riffs combined with the feeling of being inside a temple, as if priests are chanting the...

Veteran actor Nana Patekar was offered a role in Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio-starrer ‘Body Of Lies’. However, he declined it because he did not like the role that was offered to him. ‘Body of Lies’ is a 2008 American spy action thriller film directed and produced by Ridley Scott starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Russell Crowe in the lead roles.
Set in the Middle East, it follows the attempts of the CIA and the Gid of Jordan to catch “al-Saleem”, a terrorist. Frustrated by their target’s elusiveness, differences in their approaches strain relations between a CIA operative, his superior, and the head of Jordanian Intelligence.
Asked in a media chat why he said no to Hollywood movies even though offers kept coming his way, Nana said: “It was because I did not have confidence about delivering the dialogues in English. I don’t have that fluency. I could have memorised that and done that anyway.
