Amazingly directed and acted. Amy Adams gives a fantastic performance and the writing too was superb.

Votes: 374,015 | Gross: $36.26M
Well written and directed, both done by Shane Balck. The chemistry between Russel Crowe and Ryan Gosling was very good. The both of them together on screen was one of the best comical duos I've seen.
3. Hacksaw Ridge (2016)

World War II American Army Medic Desmond T. Doss, serving during the Battle of Okinawa, refuses to kill people and becomes the first man in American history to receive the Medal of Honor without firing a shot.
Director: Mel Gibson | Stars: Andrew Garfield, Sam Worthington, Luke Bracey, Teresa Palmer
Votes: 594,920 | Gross: $67.21M
Very grim and dark, with good characters and one of the best performances of the year, given by none other than Andrew Garfield.
4. Captain Fantastic (2016)

In the forests of the Pacific Northwest, a father devoted to raising his six kids with a rigorous physical and intellectual education is forced to leave his paradise and enter the world, challenging his idea of what it means to be a parent.
Director: Matt Ross | Stars: Viggo Mortensen, George MacKay, Samantha Isler, Annalise Basso
Votes: 235,260 | Gross: $5.88M
A movie with an underlying message, which is handled really well. The story was good and the jokes were funny, but it knew when to be dramatic.
5. Nocturnal Animals (2016)
R | 116 min | Drama, Thriller
A wealthy art gallery owner is haunted by her ex-husband's novel, a violent thriller she interprets as a symbolic revenge tale.
Director: Tom Ford | Stars: Amy Adams, Jake Gyllenhaal, Michael Shannon, Aaron Taylor-Johnson
Votes: 304,898 | Gross: $10.66M
The whole cast did an excellent job, especially Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who was unrecognizable. The cinematography was good-looking and the use of color was notable, which only makes you more think about the underlying meaning of them.
