Knives Out (2019)
Beautiful cinematography and entertaining storyline
Watching this movie in 4K at home during the pandemic was probably the next best thing to the theater. This film was stunning visually and cinematically. I enjoy a movie that can take your breath away with a single shot.
I also thought the characters were well acted. The cast did as excellent if a job as you would expect when you first see the lineup. There are also a handful of well-timed comedic moments too which I appreciated.
The big reveal at the end could've been MORE in my opinion, but it was still all well written, explained, and portrayed. Solid movie.
Ali (2001)
Solid movie, a bit underdeveloped
Will Smith is fantastic in this role. And I learned a lot about a man I wish I had learned more about when I was younger. But there was so much packed in that I felt some things were missing. Some characters seemed underdeveloped for having points in the film where they suddenly became the center of the scene. I do not envy anyone who would have to cram this legacy into 2.5 hours. But some things left me wanting more and maybe other parts could have been lessened or left out. Great movie though! I truly enjoyed it.
Onward (2020)
Funny and emotional
This movie made me laugh and cry. Was it the best Pixar movie of all time? No. Was it really sweet and fun to watch? Absolutely.
Nova: Extreme Animal Weapons (2017)
Informative and interesting
I enjoyed this documentary on a topic I've never considered. Entertaining and educational. A great piece!
Chris D'Elia: No Pain (2020)
Gave us a good laugh
My husband and I really enjoyed this! Chris didn't disappoint us.
6 Underground (2019)
Don't bother
I'm giving this 2 stars because 2 equals the amount of minutes I felt hopeful that it would actually be an okay movie.
The plot holes are gaping. The dialogue is horrendous. The character development is so weak that I can barely remember any defining features of any of them. Their "skill sets" and backgrounds are now a mystery to me. Granted, I watched this movie a month ago and I am finally getting around to reviewing it because I have been recovering from the whiplash I received from the amount of choppy, horrid cut scenes in this movie.
I love film. I love storytelling. And I know that this was not a storytelling movie. This was a mindless fun film to watch while eating popcorn and pumping my fists in the air while they chased the bad guys. I didn't want this movie to be anything that it's not. I just wanted it to be good at what it was supposed to be. And it wasn't. At all. Please don't watch it. There are other things to entertain yourself with.
The Spy Who Dumped Me (2018)
It's Good
I really enjoyed this movie. There are certainly dumber comedies out there that get more credit. This is funny, it's cute, it gives you some good one one-liners. Solid movie!!
Last Week Tonight with John Oliver (2014)
Love this show
I've been endlessly entertained for the last seven years, but I've also been educated. No, I don't trust everything John says. But I do prefer the comedic twist on introducing me to topics I never knew about and really should have than the normal angry anchor fear mongering at me. I will watch this show until it one day sadly ends.
Looper (2012)
Unique story that kept my attention
I'll agree with some other reviews that the plot line gets a little crossed up, but the movie itself still kept my attention. I enjoyed it for a one-time watch. It's not the greatest of all time but it is entertaining and intriguing.
The Week Of (2018)
What...
I understand nothing what I just watched... I mean really. I understand absolutely nothing. I'm only still typing because imdb is making me. But honestly this movie was so bad...
Mr. Robot (2015)
One of the best shows
From beginning to end, Mr. Robot delivers. Can't wait to watch the series again
Rocketman (2019)
Taron is great, the script is relatively weak
This movie doesn't have enough grit or details for me. I can appreciate the musical numbers and the artistic sense of the film. However, I wanted to know more about Elton. I didn't necessarily need Bohemian Rhapsody 2.0 but I wanted... more. I felt many things were glossed over and doctored up. Taron was brilliant in this. I think he did the best he could with what he was given. The singing and acting were all great. The substance just fell short.
The Girl on the Train (2016)
The book is amazing, this is dull
I loved the novel. The movie was dull, and lacked the suspenseful energy of the book. It didn't feel like a mystery at all. I also don't understand why they changed the location, the race of the therapist, the police officer that Rachel primarily deals with, cut out Anna pretty much altogether, and just basically made Kathy disappear after very little appearance anyway with no boyfriend. Also Megan was not the Megan I imagined. Emily Blunt did well and the ending was the same, but that's unfortunately all the positive things about it for me. The book was exciting and the movie was boring.
Mr. Robot: 405 Method Not Allowed (2019)
Masterful work
I wish I could articulate my thoughts and feelings on this episode. This is beyond television for me. The way that this episode upends the entire context of every character and the entire way to view the show as a whole is indescribably brilliant. One of the best written shows of our time and history. Rami Malek's performance is every definition of perfection. The execution of the episode. The emotional response. My god. Endless praise for this entire season but this episode In particular.
Zombieland: Double Tap (2019)
Solid movie
I hate the overdone, formulaic comedies they pump out now. This was a breath of fresh air and a blast from the past all in one. I also enjoyed the plot and storyline. It stayed pretty true to the original Zombieland feeling. My husband and I really enjoyed this!
Aladdin (2019)
Very fun and enjoyable
Everyone has their own opinions, but I loved this one! Dumbo REALLY disappointed me so I was hesitant about this one. I laughed, I cried, and I felt joy. For me, I sensed the Disney magic. Also Will Smith really knocks it out of the park. So thrilled he was able to own this iconic role. He didn't try to replace the original, but made it his own. I recommend it!
Indivisible (2018)
Emotional and powerful
You don't have to be a Christian, or religious at all, to appreciate this film. It is an emotional film and it builds so much empathy for soldiers. My fiancé and I both love this film. One of our favorites!
