Le trou (1960)
How is this Not on the Top 250?!
This was simultaneously quiet and riveting; meticulous and stirring; mechanical and heartbreaking. Jacques Becker's final film is one of unbelievable refinement that any other director can only hope to mimic. Jean-Pierre Melville said that it was probably the greatest French film ever made. It has a rating of 8.5 on this notoriously unreliable sight, which easily qualifies its placement on the IMDb top 250 films of all time, and yet it is not there. Why? Beyond me.
Les demoiselles de Rochefort (1967)
Perhaps the Finest of all Musicals
I did not think there was a cure to the toppling depression which I was left in after The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, but Jacques Demy managed to make do just that, through one of the great delightful cinematic experiences. I don't usually write reviews on IMDb, but this really should be one of the most appreciated French films ever made. I am not saying that it is overlooked, because it's certainly not that, and I definitely have no problems with Cherbourg, which is Demy's most well known picture in this country. I merely wish that this would get the same attention, because it deserves all that, and much more.
Ted Lasso: Carol of the Bells (2021)
Christmas Shenanigans
I love it when a television show can come to a complete stop to make room for some completely unrelated material to the plot, while building upon the characters in a way that does not feel like filler at all, just to celebrate Christmas cheer and go on their many adventures.
Les deux Anglaises et le continent (1971)
Another Romantic Triumph
Truffaut manages to detach the audience from the romance we are being shown, while simultaneously heavily involving us in it. Like Jules and Jim, it is hard to believe that people really acted this way, but that is part of the mastery of the film. This is a truly great romance that must have a blu ray release.
Knives Out (2019)
My Favourite Film in Years
Knives Out is an exceptionally wonderful murder mystery that is the most entertaining movie I've seen all year. It is freshly original, and the casting is superb. This is a strong contender for my favourite film of the decade, and I strongly recommend it to any fan of Agatha Christie or the mystery genre in general.
Casino Royale (2006)
My First Bond Film
There is no better first movie to watch than this one. I first saw it two years ago, and I have been a Bond fan ever since, and will be for the rest of my life.
Gravity Falls (2012)
One of my favorite cartoons
I grew up watching this cartoon and I'm so lucky that I did. This is the greatest cartoon since looney tunes, and there probably will be no show to math it for a very long time.
Doctor Who: The Family of Blood (2007)
The Second and Final Act of a Great Story
This is the final part to the Family of Blood story, and it is better than part one, although I love them both
Doctor Who: Human Nature (2007)
Great Episode
This is part one of a two part story. While part two is better, they both are very enjoyable, and I could rewatch them over and over again
Doctor Who: The Girl in the Fireplace (2006)
Best episode of season2
I can't remember watching this episode before now, although I know I did. I am currently rewatching new Doctor Who (my favorite show), for the first time in a very long while. This is the best episode of the show, easily, by far, still, the best is yet to come
Incredibles 2 (2018)
(I know this is a cliche, but) It was worth the 14 year wait
(The) Incredibles 2, was my most anticipated movie of the year, and it delivered in almost every aspect. While the villain was slightly obvious and underwealming, the great action scenes and humor make up for that, and it is my favorite Pixar movie since Inside Out.
Lawrence of Arabia (1962)
One of the Best Movie Performances of All Time
Lawrence of Arabia, is one of the very few movies that I consider perfect. There's nothing wrong with it at all.
The Manchurian Candidate (1962)
One of the best Sinatra movies ever
This movie can't be explained. All I have to say is that when it's over, you'll find yourself rewatching it over and over.
