The Heat (2013)
Just Horrible
Admittedly, I didn't make it to the end. I just couldn't. This is, without a doubt, the worst movie I've ever seen. The acting, the storyline, the dialogue, everything.
While watching, I'm thinking to myself - how in the world could a "reader" (studio's coverage) of this poorly written, disgusting material be positive? How in the world could a studio executive read this and say... "We need to make this". How in the world could Ms. Bullock's agent read this and say to himself... "Sandy needs to do this". How in the world could Ms. Bullock read this script and say... "This is great. Let's shoot it". How in the world could all of these people read this script and green light this awful, poorly written screenplay? And finally, how in the world could anyone who participated in the production of this movie be proud to have a family member or friend watch it? And there's going to be a second one? Be proud Hollywood, be proud.
Free Birds (2013)
Perhaps the worst animated movie ever! Not for kids.
Save your money. Don't waste your time. Don't ruin Thanksgiving for the kids.
My wife and I just returned from the show. While I seldom comment here on films, this particular so-called movie motivated me to warn IMDb readers about this horrible "cartoon".
Trust me, this picture is, without a doubt, one of the worst animated films ever produced. I realize it's a cartoon - however - we've really enjoyed other animated pictures like "Ratatouille", "Tangled", "Puss and Boots", "The Little Mermaid" and "Chicken Run". Even "Up" was better than this.
This "cartoon" is not for children. Unless you want to ruin any future Thanksgivings for them. The depiction of America's pilgrims and native Americans is outrageous. And loud - what's with the volume in theaters today. Blasting the sound doesn't make the movie better.
Where the Wild Things Are (2009)
Awful...
My husband and I had no idea what to expect. In the first few scenes we're introduced to a little tyrant (who is a great actor by the way) throwing tantrums about his home life and disrespecting his mother. Okay, "Home Alone" had a little of this in the beginning so... understanding the foreshadow and "set-up" aspects of film-making, we settled into our theater seats.
For the next hour and fifteen minutes we watched one of the worst films we've ever seen.
Look, we get all the psychological stuff, but come on... this was chaotic, violent and seemingly drug induced. The endless fighting, bickering and references to "beating someone's brains out" was outrageous and disturbing. The dirt clod fight took us to the exit. We left. (By the way when the film started there were approximately 25 people in the theater. When we walked out - there was only 4 people left in the theater).
The majority of folks who accompanied children hit the exits long before we did. While this may be a more adult type motion picture, the trailer and poster certainly doesn't infer that. Very misleading.
Saving Grace: What Would You Do? (2009)
Great episode
I've watched Saving Grace from the beginning. I was captivated by the premise, actors and creativity of the pilot. Unlike a lot of current television programs, as this one progressed it became emotionally contagious, for the most part because of Earl the Angel. The idea that he was there to help Grace find God or religion and not there to act as a Guardian Angel was a stroke of creative genius.
Next to the pilot, this is my favorite episode. There are a variety of reasons, but paramount was the loving interaction between Grace and Earl. While we've seen emotional moments between them before, there was a connection between them in this episode that illustrated as well as reminded us why Earl was there in the first place - to help Grace save herself.
As we discover in this episode there are other Angels out there and some Angels have better "people skills" than others. In this episode we learn that Earl's approach to saving souls is key to his success. But more importantly was the underlying issue of his love and understanding for humanity and Grace. Another stroke of genius.
This episode included a great performance by F. Murray Abraham as a somewhat inept Angel seemingly trying to discover the secrets of Earl's success. What Abraham's character really did was help reveal several important aspects of Earl's character we've all wanted to see. The conversations between Earl and Matthew were enlightening, poignant and provided a perfect way for us to find out a lot more about Earl and God's Angel corp.
I also found the criminal investigation in this one very good. There was some substance to the characters and the crime scene parts were very well done. The way they weaved the Angel elements and criminal parts together was excellent.
Great episode.
The Dark Knight (2008)
Horrible
This is, without a doubt, one of the worst motion pictures I've ever seen. The primary actors in this film should be ashamed of their performances in this picture. Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine are two of the finest actors in the business. These men are generally the gold standard in their profession, however in The Dark Knight, they allow the horrible script and direction drag them to lows I never thought possible. This picture is a great example of poor story telling and bad direction.
The editing was horrible and the "special effects" were childish, even the photography was weak. Yeah, we get the gray tones and the urban hues... but please, enough already. The story was confusing, there was no one to like (even Batman), no plot, too many explosions, too much repetition, horrible dialog and a weak, unsatisfying ending.
So, what made this movie successful? Four things. The Batman brand. Marketing. Marketing. Marketing.
Geez, this was just so disappointing.
Next (2007)
Really bad...
Boy are we glad we rented this turkey and didn't pay $20 to see it at the theater. "Next" is, without a doubt, one of the worst motion pictures ever made.
The ending - well, let's just say we were very happy when the movie ended. Quite frankly, the only reason we stayed with it was to see just how bad the ending might be. We were not disappointed. The people involved in making this film should be embarrassed.
Mr.Cage wasn't believable, the cops weren't believable, the bad guys were silly and the premise was as tired as we were after sitting through it.
Desperate Measures (1998)
The worst police movie of all time
Please! This is, without a doubt, one of the worst police movies ever made. Not only are there holes and flaws in the story, the movie bounces erratically from one unbelievable scene to the next without believability or purpose.
I think Andy Garcia is a good actor, however, in this movie he seems a little tentative as a police officer and lacks the edge that makes us believe were watching a real cop in a tough situation.
The police look silly, contrived and phony and the villain (Keaton - who is a great actor and can play a great bad guy) is way too campy.
By the way, the reason it didn't do well at the box office, it's the worst police movie of all time.
