The Goonies (1985)
An Adventure I would have loved to have been part of
The Goonies is undeniably a cult classic. Favored by Kids, teens and adults. This film is the reason I have loved movies. It is part of my childhood. And provides adventure, imagination, mystery, thrills, humor and action.
From the opening scene we are introduced to the gang and the villains. The Score is mysterious and magical and is absolutely magnetic. The locations are superbly beautiful. ECola park is a location I have to see some time in my life. The cinematography is majestic most notably in the end showing the ship sailing away. Which gives me goosebumps all the time. The sets are just amazing. The set designers and production designers showed the adventure we want to be a part of. The Waterslides that shoot out the protagonists to the cave filled with an aroma of water which holds One Eyed Willies ship is a spectacular moment. One I have enjoyed a lot.
The direction is handled perfectly by Donner. The film also has that essence of Spielberg due to the man himself. Without him this would not have been as good. Chris Columbus, I feel is very underrated and has created a magical script filled with beloved characters which are portrayed superbly.
This film is fantastic. I recommend you go watch it. It will please the kid inside you and have a great adventure. One you can enjoy moment after moment. Just make sure you do the Truffle Shuffle after.
Jaws (1975)
I for one am never going back in the ocean!
If you ever are in the water and hear the haunting Jaws score, You should get out as fast as you can. John Williams orchestrated one of the most well known and referenced scores of all time. But that is not only the great thing about this movie. Often regarded as the first summer blockbuster "Jaws" provides a tale of horror and survival which is most notably shown during the final act. The dialogue is to the point and doesn't stretch out. The cinematography is wonderful as we are shown the white sandy beaches of Amity Island. My favorite shot is of Chief Brody looking out to the ocean after an attack on some locals. That shot embodied the vast space if ocean the Chief was about to enter. This is definitely my favorite movie with fantastic performances by our three leads: Robert Shaw, Richard Dreyfuss and Roy Schneider as Quint, Hooper and Brody. Shaw steals the movie in one particular scene where he provides a dark speech full of imagery. I don't want to spoil it. This film would not have worked without a fantastic crew, great script, actors and Mr Steven Spielberg who has gives imagination and adventure to the audience. It looks like I am gonna need a bigger boat to finish this review
A River Runs Through It (1992)
Most underrated film I have ever seen
This film is absolutely beautiful. From the serene shots of the majestic and jaw dropping mountains, rivers and forests of Montana to the wondrous score that is executed perfectly from Mark Isham, this is an amazing movie filled with lovely dialogue, perfect acting ( Brad Pitt and Craig Sheffer most importantly) and wonderful poetry.
River runs through it is a film I most definitely recommend. It will make you smile and feel many more different types of emotions. Sit down and watch a tale of two brothers who share a special bond of fly- fishing on the big Blackfoot river where " all things merge into one and a river runs through it"
One scene that stood out for me was like " witnessing perfection". I am haunted by waters.
Entourage (2004)
The life of a movie star
Oh how i love this show. It's perfect and the comedy is excellent as is the acting, writing, cinematography, music and direction. Jeremy Piven does a magnificent job at playing Ari. The entourage are mediocre but special mention has to go to Johnny Drama played by Kevin Dillon who provides laughs every episode. The cameos and supporting characters are brilliant as well (Billy Walsh and Matt Damon- my two favorites)
The show introduced me to wonderful music from The Verve, Gang Starr and also giving nod to classics from The Ramones, The cure and Rolling Stones.
The highlight of the show for me though is the Locations. Going on holidays out to Los Angeles last year gave me the excitement I felt seeing many of the locations used and the show made me want to move to glitz and glamour of Hollywood. Personal favorites were Warner Bros Studios and The house the boys lived in in the first season.
Watch the Show and you will be addicted. VICTTTOOORRRYYYY!!!!!
Interstellar (2014)
A brilliant cinematic experience that can't be missed.
Interstellar. Just wow!!!
This film is a cinematic experience. Just go see it right now in IMAX. Christopher Nolan has made an amazing, heartbreaking ride of a film. In my opinion it was paced well. The twist at the end was just so good and was effective and made my heart beat much faster than it should. A great cameo from someone ( Not gonna say who but you will like it).
THe visuals were just absolutely magnificent. They provided clear images of space and how perfect it is. Oscar win coming up right there.
Acting was brilliant with Matthew Mcconaughey providing a heartbreaking performance. Everyone else was brilliant but i think Mackenzie Foy did a great job as an imaginative ten year old. Same goes with Jessica Chastain. The story shows the caring relationship between a father and his daughter.
Just amazing. Go see it right now. You will never get a chance to go through this emotional journey into space and how the world has stopped exploring. Christopher Nolan truly is a genius. Oh yeah and Hans Zimmer gives emotional and imaginative music into this film. He is a legend
