Suicide Room (2011)
7/10
A decent movie
2 April 2024
A story very similar to the one told in a new movie (The Son, 2022): parents who are not present for their son. Also, in this case, a teenager who is bullied at school and does not want to return to real life.

He takes refuge in a virtual world on the Internet that, in my opinion, is extremely well done for a 2006 film. I think I would have liked to see more scenarios from the supposed video game than from Dominike's real life.

And the comparison I make with "The Son" seems important to me to point out that there are ways to better portray depression in male adolescents, there always have been, this is a good representation! And unlike this new film that I mention, in "Suicide Room" there is no ending where an element (gun) shown at the beginning of the film is used. It has an expected ending, but at first you may think that they are giving you all the clues about how that ending is going to happen, and it turns out that they are not.

What I liked least was the color scheme of the story in real life (not the video game, the video game was great). It is as if the film had a filter over it, the colors look dark and opaque. I also didn't like that they showed Dominike's last moments. I think it would have been better if they ended with her mother's speech.

Typical Duff movie
29 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
It could easily fall into my category of comfort films for any day. But the problem with Material Girls is that they take the issue of racism too far.

I understand that it is to give context to the type of protagonists, but when you can list several scenes in which the protagonists are being like this, it is no longer part of their characters and becomes a desire to cause fun with things that are not funny. For example, the scene in which they make fun of Inés's walk. They were literally making fun of who was almost her adoptive mother, who was sheltering them and giving them love. So, many other examples.

Meh, it won't be on my list of comfort movies. Simple, with an original plot in relation to others like this, but full of racism.

Generational trauma
29 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Not only is it a film that talks about the pain that an SA victim goes through, but it also demonstrates the trauma that is passed from generation to generation, destroying relationships that could have developed differently. Georgia Rule made me cry hard.

From the beginning of the film, you can tell that the abuse has been real, and they have done a wonderful job of showing how a victim can keep quiet to keep the pain away and how an abuser can lie and easily buy silence.

A moving and mobilizing film, very well performed by the three female protagonists, but especially by Lindsay. I think one of the things that portrays the least about reality is that, in these types of situations, men DO take advantage, when in the film they show the opposite; a young religious man who swears not to want to have relations with her until after they get married and a doctor who works with her and who says no to her advances.

God, what a great movie
24 February 2024
I think it's the first time in my life that I've seen an uncut movie and I was fascinated. It is an extremely engaging story about what happens behind the lives of people who work in a restaurant. They deal with a variety of problems such as racism, addiction and self-harm.

One of the lowest paid jobs in the world and with the least recognition has to be waiters, and the amount of stress experienced by chefs (who in real life can be abusive, despite having a hard time) is also delirious.

It's been a while since I fell in love with a new movie. I prefer the old ones, I prefer those that had their boom in 2010 or before, but this one... Just wow.

Basic movie that portrays depression
14 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
A movie TOO long for a long-awaited outcome. Instead of making Nicholas look like a possible psychopath (because of the things his biological mother and his father's wife said), they could have done something more interesting about school, or tried to better portray why he felt like that. Maybe, with something more tangible or interesting than the separation of his parents.

In some way, the fact that the most important event occurred after the doctor had said that "sometimes love cannot do everything" and an image of both parents connecting again, almost falling in love again, appeared, was the best thing for the meaning he gave to that phrase. Precisely, love could not do everything. He was faking it the whole time and knew that if he begged they would get him out of the hospital. The end of the father's "new life" was also known. I imagined it was a dream or something like that, although I must admit that for a moment I thought it could be real, that perhaps the shot had not been effective.

The typical romantic movie for a rainy day
12 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I decided to see this movie because Hilary Duff was on it and it ended up being a classic (but not bad) old romantic movie. I prefer a thousand times a story like this, with its twists and an interesting plot, over current ones like The Kissing Booth.

What I didn't really like was Lenny's demise. I would have liked an ending where he also found love, perhaps with the guy at the restaurant or with one of the pastry makers. I don't know, I felt sorry for the scene where he returns the box with the ring. He was really excited that things would work out and it didn't work out.

In the end, is an orchid really better than another type of flower if what counts is the gesture?

The psychiatrist is simply indescribable
8 February 2024
The 4 stars go to the boy, his brother, all his friends and the scenes they showed from his childhood.

Now, having all that material, years of experience seeing the child's mental deterioration, how could it be that the psychiatrist did not try other treatment? When you have a patient who does not improve after so many years, you need to transfer their case to another specialist!

If the child was misdiagnosed throughout his life, he would literally be responsible for his death. Years of treatment and he reads only a few notes in which he has almost nothing written about him.

Anyway. I can't empathize with psychiatrists, it seems like they have been deprived of their consciousness.

A true reflection of the educational system
5 February 2024
Detachment is a film that portrays the consequences of an educational system that is mainly destructive, where the focus is not on accompanying young people on the path of learning, but rather dealing with them until the time teachers finish teaching.

Although the film is more focused on showing the way in which the main character and other teachers experience the profession, there are also exclusive scenes dedicated to the students.

I feel sorry for Henry and the situations he had to go through throughout his life, but I also think it is necessary to remember that students have problems and I would have liked to see a little more of that side.

I feel that after watching the film it is important to remember the testimonies that appear at the beginning.

Not the classic Disney movie
4 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
It makes me sad to know that new generations are not going to grow up with this movie at Disney. I used to watch it all the time, every time it was on TV. Now, seeing it as an adult, I think the concept of not having put the popular member of the group as the villain, but rather her mother, is great. It is an inspiring, realistic film that demonstrates the consequences of demands in sports and also the demands in study.

It's the most comforting Disney movie I've ever seen. It's great how many things can be analyzed about the different characters, but especially the mothers. I love the story and the ending too. So emotional.

Anna (VII) (2013)

This is what I look for in a thriller/mystery movie!
4 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
The story is captivating from the beginning to the end. It left me in doubt about the reason for the last scene (Anna's gift) and I had to read other reviews to understand that it was proof that she was alive (and that's how John manages to get out of jail).

If this type of mechanism for reading minds existed, it would be totally revolutionary in the field of psychology.

Also, a simply wonderful ending. What remains in my doubt is whether Anna escaped because of her family, because they made her experience atrocities as a child, or if it was all her invention. And also the reason why she didn't eat. Didn't she eat so that some psychologist could come and do all this tricking?

Ghost World (2001)

Slow movie, but comforting
4 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I have seen many movies similar to this. The typical ones of teenagers discovering adulthood and, in particular, girls falling in love with older men.

I feel like it's the kind of movie I would watch again because of how comforting the settings, music, and dialogue are. However, it becomes a little slow and boring to tell the summer of two teenagers...

Enid and Seymour connect because Enid would be just like Seymour as an adult. They both have restricted interests and don't find happiness easily. I like to interpret the ending as Enid going to live in the "ghost world" because that bus wasn't supposed to be there and you can't tell where she was going.

It leaves me very intrigued not to understand if she would maintain contact with her friend, her father and Seymour or if it would be a matter of disappearing as she mentions in the film which is one of her dreams...

NPD, hypocrisy and social media
4 February 2024
Good plot. I wouldn't consider it a horror movie, more of a gore or suspense movie. I found somewhere that it was categorized under "comedy", but I think it's not part of that genre at all.

I don't like watching new movies in general, but I don't regret giving this one a chance. I love that they used a "mental health activist" influencer to portray narcissistic personality disorder. Beyond the development of the film, these influencers are some of the worst things about social media, and I think it's great that they use it to show that "not everything you see is reality".

The ending is twistedly brilliant.

Good movie
4 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
As someone who has depression, I think this movie portrays well what it means to go through the ups and downs of life with this illness. But, factors such as the relationship of the main actress with the hospital psychiatrists seemed very unrealistic to me.

In most cases, you don't stay in contact with the specialists outside the hospital, much less forming a kind of "friendship" (like what happens with Tori Hausermann).

The thing about Robert Perkins' death seemed very forced for the film, although if it is based on real events I can understand why they added it. I wouldn't watch it again, but I liked it.
