Steven Spielberg is one of the greatest directors currently working today. With 50 years of cinematic legacy to his credit, the director grasped the essence of movie magic in the early part of his career. Following his Hollywood debut with The Sugarland Express and then his breakout movie Jaws, the director gave one valuable lesson to aspiring movie directors.

Spielberg understands what it takes to be a movie director in Hollywood and thrive in the industry. Obviously, a successful movie requires immaculate vision to trigger the very emotions of the audience but the development of the vision comes from the understanding of the craft and the director who has made a whopping $8 billion fortune has one advice that can elevate the imagination of filmmakers.

Injecting traces of whimsy into a historical tragedy is a precarious thing. If you do it well, you get Anthony Doerr’s All the Light We Cannot See, but if you do it poorly, you get Netflix’s All the Light We Cannot See. And it isn’t some clear-cut empirical thing, since Life Is Beautiful and Jojo Rabbit are Oscar-winning classics for some and unbearable pablum to others. (Me, I am Others.)
One person’s “restraint” is another person’s “excessively muted” and yet another person’s “still too darned sentimental.”
I’m here to praise Showtime’s A Gentleman in Moscow for its general restraint. The limited series take on Amor Towles’ 2016 novel tiptoes along an allegorical line, without toppling over into either outright whimsy or voyeuristic gawking at the flawed idealism and generational traumas of the Bolshevik Revolution. It’s a dark story that still has some levity,...

If you thought being intimate with strangers for a series or a movie was awkward, imagine having to film those exact scenes with your spouse in front of a crowd. Husband and wife Ewan McGregor and Mary Elizabeth Winstead had to go through the same thing while filming for their upcoming series, A Gentleman in Moscow.
A Gentleman in Moscow (2024)
Now, while the two should be quite well-versed in each other’s comforts and discomforts, Ewan McGregor decided that they were still going to have an intimacy coordinator on the set of the series. Why? Well, according to the actor, filming intimate scenes is not just about the couple performing it, but also about the other cast and crew members present on the set.

Dwayne Johnson is one of the biggest stars in Hollywood at present. He found success as a professional wrestler before he ventured into the world of acting and, subsequently, business. Given his fame, Johnson is often invited to talk shows, and he made an appearance on Drew Barrymore’s show recently.
The interview with the Black Adam actor was a riot, as the two stars discussed a variety of subjects. One moment between them stood out, though, when Johnson asked for Barrymore’s consent before a particular act, and it has endeared the Rock to his fans even more.

For the most recent precedent for Grand Theft Hamlet, you’d probably have to go back nearly 20 years, to a 2006 episode of South Park. Titled “Make Love, Not Warcraft,” it found Cartman marshaling his friends to take on a super-advanced rogue player with a posse of killer crabs who has taken to killing everyone in his path in the Tolkienesque greenfields of Azeroth. This virtual psychopath sends shivers down the spines of the programmers at WoW’s corporate HQ.
After Sam Crane and Pinny Grylls’ documentary debuted earlier this week at SXSW, however, it is only a matter of time before directors see the multitude of possibilities to be mined from the gaming world, not least because the technical advances made in recent years mean that even the most basic console games can blow up to fill a cinema-size screen quite comfortably.

The concept of the quarantine movie was actually one of the newest trends during the two years the pandemic raged around the world, with a number of filmmakers turning to these social-distancing measures in order to present their new works. It seems, however, that we are not completely done with the particular approach, as still some movies that were shot during lockdown are coming out while others implement the style in different, more diverse styles. Whether it belongs in the first or the second category, “Livestream” definitely has some elements that make it stand out.

Exclusive: The McG-led Wonderland Sound and Vision is developing a new docuseries based on the alleged crimes of Anthony Farrer, a high-end watch dealer and social media influencer who ran a consignment store in Beverly Hills.
Farrer, whose business was called the Timepiece Gentleman, would collect luxury watches from customers with the promise to sell them on consignment at no more than a 5 percent fee. Instead, he amassed exotic cars, enjoyed extravagant trips and dinners, and rented $100,000-per-month penthouse while operating his business from November of 2022 through August of 2023.
The story came to a head when a whistleblower posted a secret conversation between him and Farrer on TikTok, where Farrer confessed to losing $5 million of his customers’ and investors’ money. At least 20 victims were allegedly duped by Farrer, according to the Nyt.
The hero of the scandal was a determined group on Reddit that suspected wrongdoing for years. The...

If you’re a sports league or a superstar athlete, it used to be that you wanted all eyes to be on the field, court or track. Now, the real action occurs as much after the game’s over, with cameras still rolling. The runaway success of Netflix’s Formula 1 docuseries Drive to Survive and golf docuseries Full Swing has sparked a mini frenzy from leagues, teams and athletes, all of which are hoping that a hit docuseries of their own can drive new interest in their in-game performances, or at least provide an ancillary stream of revenue to an already lucrative sports business.
Netflix, for its part, is happy to crow about its success in the genre. “After Drive to Survive took off, fans started packing the stands at the races,” the streamer’s vp ad sales Peter Naylor told a crowd at Advertising Week New York on Oct.

The first trailer for “Our Flag Means Death” Season 2 has arrived, and it’s full of old romances and new characters.
The show picks up right where Season 1 left off. “Our Flag Means Death” will follow Gentleman Pirate captain Stede Bonnet (Rhys Darby) as he tries to reunite his crew and apologize to his best friend and new love, Ed, aka Blackbeard (Taika Waititi).
After a near-death experience, Season 1 ended with Stede choosing to return to his old life and wife rather than sail away with Ed. It wasn’t a rejection that the notoriously violent Blackbeard took well and that’s set to be a main crux of this new season.
In addition to Darby and Waititi, Season 2 stars returning cast members Samson Kayo, Vico Ortiz, Ewen Bremner, Joel Fry, Matthew Maher, Kristian Nairn, Con O’Neill, David Fane, Samba Schutte, Nat Faxon and Leslie Jones.

Fly on the wall? Pah! The wall is all the way over there! These days, viewers want to be flies buzzing right around the noses of the people making the headlines, close enough to tell what they had for breakfast. And thanks to true story TV dramas, they can.
It’s been a long time since ropey Lifetime Movies were as good as it got for true story TV. In recent years, British production companies have stepped up in a big way to serve a growing appetite for fact-based drama, but all too often the real-life TV dramas of today focus on haunting tales of history’s most gruesome murders. If you’re sick of serial killers, there are plenty of non-murder true stories to enjoy in drama form, from very public scandals to ordinary people doing extraordinary things, to the kinds of tragedies it’s important that we never forget.

Fresh off the back of the penultimate episode of BBC smash Happy Valley, creator Sally Wainwright this morning cryptically teased her next project, as she talked up the virtues of taking a six month hiatus.
Speaking to the BBC’s Today program, the Gentleman Jack scribe said she has recently been learning the drums and this is acting as prep for her next project when she returns to writing in February.
Wainwright didn’t go into any further detail but said she had enjoyed her recent six month hiatus “a bit too much” following a “tough and bruising year.”
“I’ll be starting work again come February,” added Wainwright. “I’ve been a bit of a workaholic for 20 years so having the time off was great but it will soon be time to go back to the conveyor belt.”

Glass Onion star Dave Bautista has come a long way from bad boy wrestler to international TV and film star. But his performance in the new Netflix hit show proves his rise to stardom is well-earned.
Despite his rise to fame via 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy, the star maintains a connection with his personal history. In fact, it’s pretty easy for the 54-year-old since so much of it is inked onto his skin.
Bautista’s iconic tattoos are a signature part of his look, and many of them have deep personal meaning to him. That doesn’t mean there aren’t a few tattoos he’s a little embarrassed by along the way.
