Casey Affleck's production company Sea Change Media has signed an exclusive first-look deal with Amazon Studios.
The two-year deal, covering both film and television projects, repairs Affleck with Amazon, after he won the best actor Oscar for Manchester by the Sea, which Amazon nabbed out of the Sundance Film Festival. Whitaker Lader, a Sundance Institute alum, serves as head of production and development of Sea Change, which looks to develop bold, authentic, smart content, shining a light on underrepresented voices and stories, and operating with a philosophy of inclusivity and collaboration.

News of Todd Haynes making his first documentary should’ve come as something of a curveball, but it was reported that the “Carol” director is planning a non-fiction project about the Velvet Underground, it seemed like the most natural thing in the world. Haynes’ “Velvet Goldmine” is such a knowing, textured, and vividly remembered reflection on the glam rock era that it can be easy to forget that its story merely alludes to the likes of Lou Reed.
But the fascination the Velvet Underground holds for Haynes isn’t the only thing that makes this newly announced documentary feel like such a perfect pairing between subject and storyteller. With the landmark “The Velvet Underground & Nico” LP, Reed and his cohorts effectively forged a new language for countercultural expression, synthesizing the subversive pop stylings of Andy Warhol into a rock movement that had already been neutered of its rebellious beginnings. With films like “Poison” and “Safe,...

With the way Election 2016 is going, it's been next to impossible for writers to come up with storylines that stranger than reality.
Madam Secretary Season 3 Episode 1 certainly gave it the old college try though. After Dalton lost the nomination (a fate suffered by only one elected president in history), Elizabeth suggested that he run as an independent. The least crazy part of this story was framing the climate change debate as an issue of national security!
While the election maneuverings may be slightly fantastical, what struck me as even more bizarre was how domestically focused everything was. Sure, Elizabeth spoke to the foreign minister of Tunisia, but what role did he play beyond providing a little bit of global shade?
Climate change is a serious issue, and an even bigger problem is how the U.S. government has it's hands tied by Congress and state legislatures when it comes to the issue.

Coming off of a big Season 2 cliffhanger, will Madam Secretary have to retool its title sequence and call itself Madam Vice President for the rest of the season? The CBS drama’s Season 3 premiere answers that question — and quickly — but not in the way you might expect.

Earlier this year, YouTube announced an extension of its card-based annotations that gave creators the opportunity to raise funds for charities and nonprofits from within the video site’s player. Six months later, that feature is forming the base for an exciting partnership. YouTube has partnered with CNN-funded Great Big Story for a series of projects that will use cards to assist the latter company's fundraising efforts.
The first “Great Big Film” launched out of the partnership within YouTube takes viewers to Palau, where poachers are causing great damage upon the island nation’s marine life ecosystem. The film, titled “Sea Change” and produced by Vacationland, documents this issue and urges viewers to take action. By clicking an icon in the video’s upper-righthand corner, concerned citizens can donate to the Wildlife Conservation Network, a nonprofit that fights for balanced co-existence between humans and animals.

Yoko Ono released the music video for her single “Catman,” a new remix of her 1973 song created with the help of Miike Snow. The video is directed by actress Rose McGowan and according to Rolling Stone, represents solidarity among women of all ages and the joys of movement.
“Yoko Ono has been an ardent supporter of women and modern dance for years,” McGowan said. “Casting women dancers over 60, including one with cancer, was my way of showing that vitality doesn’t die with age. I used color overlays to create my own visual beat.”
The video shows a young woman in a black unitard with a cat-like face mask dancing around a room of older women. Upon seeing her dance, the sullen women then get up and dance around the girl.

Australian Writers' Guild President, Jan Sardi.
The Australian Writers. Guild has launched a multi-million dollar legal action in the Federal Court against royalty collection and distribution society Screenrights.
The action, which was filed on March 3 by the 2,600 member guild, comes after protracted negotiations between the Awg and Screenrights over the distribution of royalties to writers.
Screenrights was established in 1990 to administer provisions in the Australian Copyright Act that allow educational institutions to copy from television and radio, provided payment is made to the copyright owners.
A case management hearing has been set for April 5, with Justice Jane Jagot presiding.
The Awg has issued a statement alleging that screenwriters have been deprived of royalties for more than two decades.
.Scriptwriters say that instead of protecting them, Screenrights may have misdirected possibly tens of millions of dollars in royalties that should have been paid to writers over the past two decades,. according to the Awg.

Kanye’s favorite Grammy-winning musician has forgone his recent melancholic aesthetic and returned to the ironic-loser sense of humor that made him famous. In a Facebook post published on Friday, the psych-folk-alt-rock trouper shared artwork from his new single "Dreams," as well as a fuzz-laden 15-second clip that could be pulled right off of Mutations or Modern Guilt. Festooned with confetti, a blood-weeping eye, and a trio of orbs that vaguely resembles organs or balloons, the moving, animated art harkens back to the multi-cover release of Sea Change, but without all the sad. Pitchfork reports the art is part of an ongoing project, which you can see more of at Beck's site.
