When you’re looking for something to watch this weekend, don’t immediately dismiss Hulu’s “We Were the Lucky Ones” as just another prestige limited series about the Holocaust. It’s that, of course, but it’s also so much more.
Emmy nominee Joey King stars opposite Logan Lerman in this powerful adaptation of Georgia Hunter’s bestselling novel, which tells the story of the Kurcs, a Polish Jewish family separated at the start of World War II, and their attempts to reunite. The eight-episode limited series, the first three episodes of which are now streaming on Hulu, stands out amongst similarly themed projects for the way it expands the scope of the narrative. Set in multiple countries and told over a number of years, “We Were the Lucky Ones” reaches beyond the well-known horrors of the concentration camps with which we’re all painfully familiar to portray the...

Steven Yeun and Ali Wong will soon be taking over our Netflix screens with their hotly anticipated comedy-drama series “Beef,” which hits the streaming service on April 6. The 10-episode series, which recently released its first trailer, stars Yeun and Wong as two people who become consumed by the road rage incident that involves both of them.
Created by Lee Sung Jin, the series promises intense drama in a Greek tragedy-esque plot wherein one moment slowly unravels the lives of those involved. The show will combine this fiery drama, however, with a dose of black comedy that sets apart the series as one to look out for. And at the forefront of “Beef” are its stars, Yeun and Wong.
Jin was previously a writer on various shows, including “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” “2 Broke Girls,” “Silicon Valley,” and “Dave.” He also served as a producer on the latter three shows...

“Everything Everywhere All at Once” has been named the best original film screenplay of 2023 at the Writers Guild Awards, which were held on Sunday evening in Los Angeles and New York.
The win gives “Everything Everywhere” a sweep of the four major Hollywood guild awards: the Directors Guild, Producers Guild, Writers Guild and Screen Actors Guild, where it won the ensemble cast award and set a record with four wins in the five SAG categories.
The win made the freewheeling indie film only the fifth film to sweep the major guilds since the SAG awards first handed out the ensemble award in 1995. The first four were “American Beauty,” “No Country for Old Men,” “Slumdog Millionaire” and “Argo,” all of which went on to win the Oscar for Best Picture.
If “Everything Everywhere” was a strong favorite to win that award going into this weekend, it will now be a commanding one heading into Oscar week.

With his Netflix special “Rothaniel” continuing to attract audiences, Jerrod Carmichael is on a hot streak. But even during Carmichael’s current rise, there are several projects he’s admitted he’s had to put aside. In a recent interview with GQ, he discussed that “I love getting rid of irons [in the fire]” and at least two high-profile projects on Carmichael’s docket are not going forward.
One of them was a proposed remake of the 1982 feature “48 Hours” Carmichael was cowriting with Josh and Benny Safdie. The project was announced back in 2017 after the Safdies released their feature film “Good Time.” Carmichael would have also starred in the movie, which tells the story of a cop and a convict who team up to catch a pair of cop-killers.

Comedian Jerrod Carmichael has officially come out as gay in his latest HBO comedy special, “Jerrod Carmichael: Rothaniel,” which premieres on April 1.
Toward the beginning of his set, which was performed in February at the Blue Note Jazz Club in New York City, Carmichael told a story about the men in his family having a history of cheating.
“When you’re that family, you learn not to say s—,” he told the audience. He then began to explain how he had previously caught his own dad cheating. That revelation made him want to confront his own secrets.
“That was out in the open, and once that was done, I was left alone feeling like a liar, because I had a secret,” he said. “One that I kept from my father, my mother, my family, my friends, and you — all of you. Professionally, personally. And the secret is that I’m gay.
