The first trailer for Stephen King's The Dark Tower has arrived, and we found tons of references, clues, and easter eggs...
For a long time, it was thought to be impossible - a film adaptation of Stephen King's fantasy horror epic about a Gunslinger traveling through different worlds to stop an evil Man in Black from destroying the fixed point that holds all of reality together: the Dark Tower. Yet, we'll finally see this story on screen, as the man in black flees across the desert, and the gunslinger follows.
After suffering several setbacks through the years - getting this movie made has been a journey almost as epic as Roland's - The Dark Tower is almost here. Nikolaj Arcel (A Royal Affair) directed and co-wrote the film adaptation. Fellow Danish filmmaker Anders Thomas Jensen helped rewrite the script, which was originally penned by Akiva Goldsman and Jeff Pinkner.

Fancy some terrific Stephen King horror short stories to read? Here are some recommendations...
Stephen King is a master of the short story, able to dish out horror tales to make your skin crawl, astounding sci-fi, and even literary reflections aimed at more "sophisticated" readers. He's done it all, with no sign of stopping.
Although I've had the tough task of picking 15 of my favorite King horror tales for this list, you should absolutely pick up All of his collections and give them a read through. You'll always find something to give you the chills.
Make a note: this is a list of short stories, not novellas. And on top of that, stories that are genuinely scary. I didn't forget "The Mist" or "N." or "Secret Window, Secret Garden" or any of those other goodies. Those deserve their own article, don't they?
So below: a list of...

Over the years, Stephen King has crafted a complex fictional universe that revolves around The Dark Tower...
Editor's Note: This guide tries to keep it light on the spoilers, but there are some, gunslinger.

For the past 40 years, Stephen King, an American master of letters, has shown time and time again why he's the king of pop fiction. Whether you've only read his horror stuff, or are all about his hard techno-fantasy books, you've probably read more than one of King's works and have undoubtedly started to see the connections that form. Because for almost the same amount of time as his entire professional career, King has been creating his very own fictional universe.
I previously wrote about director Josh Boone's upcoming adaptation of The Stand, a fat novel that Constant...

In the introduction to his 2002 collection, Everything's Eventual, Stephen King admits that writing the stories within it was "not so pleasurable." He goes on to say that most of the stories in that book had taken considerable effort, and that he wrote not for love or money, but "as a kind of dues-paying." Though Everything's Eventual yielded some exciting results – particularly the title story, "All That You Love Will Be Carried Away," and "Autopsy Room 4" – as a collection, the book felt a little soft, not as cohesive as earlier efforts like Night Shift and Skeleton Crew. In 2006, King took on the role of editor for the Best American Short Stories anthology, and...

There hasn’t been a serial horror story in quite some time. Probably John Saul’s Blackstone Chronicles is the most recent. But there is a new kid on the block now, Rick Florino’s Dolor, and this ain’t your mama’s serial horror.
Set in the mysterious town of Dolor, the ten-part series will unfold slowly, introducing the reader to Dolor’s various denizens as well as the town itself. Because from the beginning, with "Lila", the reader knows something has gone terribly wrong in Dolor; and as the ten diaries are read by an FBI agent investigating what happened in Dolor, the reader will also discover what happened and who (or what) might be responsible.
Dread Central recently had an opportunity to chat with the creator of Dolor: Lila (review here) and discovered that Rick Florino is something of an enfant terrible and an author people should take note of.

The Honesty Bug bit me in the ass last night. That's why I'm going to share a fact I prefer to keep quiet: I hate to cover Stephen King works. Not because I hate King's material, rather, because I love it with a genuine passion. And, I'm intimidated out of my mind when 'critiquing' just about anything the man has done.
I know damn well Mr. King will never even read this article. But, what if he did? What if he read this article and thought "this 'writer' is a piece of shit, and disgrace to any media outlet willing to entertain his feeble abilities?" Because realistically, as an aspiring writer (I'm learning on the job, and doing a whole lot of pretending at this point) I can recognize that Stephen King is the kind of man who has truly mastered words. The kind of guy who's invested more than...

Two days ago, I posted up a story about how Children of the Corn is going to be remade because the original just plain wasn't religious enough for the Weinsteins. They demand more creepy children. In corn! And while this prospect doesn't make me all that sad - either because I'm a robot with no feelings or because I've grown desensitized to remake news - it does make me wish that filmmakers would dip a bit further into Stephen King's giant corpus of short stories. Instead of another Children of the Corn, let's see a few of these gems fleshed out into full feature length horror trips. All That You Love Will Be Carried Away The Pitch: Alfie is a traveling salesman who is fascinated by graffiti, seeing it as small messages people can leave behind on walls and bathroom stalls that broadcast out into the rest of the world. He's...
