The police procedurals, newsmags and scripted series that usually provide the drama on a Friday night largely gave way to sports action before the July 4 holiday weekend.
The 2021 Stanley Cup Finals with the Tampa Bay Lightning and Montreal Canadians, and the WWE Friday Night SmackDown tied for the night’s demo crown. Both came in with an 0.4, with hockey gaining a slight edge in audience size, bringing in 1.98 million versus wrestling’s 1.74 in the early ratings.
ABC’s 911 reality series Emergency Call scored an 0.3 in demos, but the show came in with 2.62 million to top the sports draw, although that total represented drop from last week for it.
The CW’s Dynasty provided the only other new programming, scoring an 0.0 in demos.
The rest of the evening’s fare consisted of repeats.

In the latest TV show ratings, CBS’ two-hour broadcast of the 48th Daytime Emmy Awards on Friday night averaged 2.4 million total viewers and a 0.2 demo rating — down 23 and 33 percent from last year’s very virtual ceremony but still a vast improvement on the Pop TV/900K days.
NBC’s coverage of the latest U.S. Olympics trials dominated Friday in both measures, with the 8 o’clock hour doing 4.1 mil/0.6 and the 9 pm portion rising to 4.4 mil/0.8.

The 48th Daytime Emmy Awards live broadcast slipped a bit from last year’s viewership, and was soundly beaten in the Friday demo ratings by wrestling, the US Olympic trials, two newsmagazines and even reality TV.
Early returns show the CBS Daytime Emmys at an 0.2 in the night’s demo wars, down slightly from last year’s 0.3, when the awards show returned to prime time for the first time since 2011.
The drama of the US Olympic Trials, which will determine who will be part of the team to head to the Tokyo games next month, topped the night in a runaway. The NBC broadcast came in at a solid 0.8 and drew the night’s largest audience at 4.36 million, winning the evening for the Peacock network. World and Olympic gymnastics champion Simone Biles was the big attraction, dazzling the live crowd and TV audience with her all-around excellence.

Hulu’s list of new releases for June 2021 is highlighted by a host of useful library titles and one fascinating original film.
The original film in question is the one that lends its delightful photo of Pierce Brosnan delivering a baby to this post. False Positive stars and was written by Ilana Glazer (Broad City). It sounds like a really fun, creepy time with a synopsis that reads: “After months of trying and failing to get pregnant, Lucy (Glazer) and Adrian (Justin Theroux) finally find their dream fertility doctor in the illustrious Dr. Hindle (Pierce Brosnan). But after becoming pregnant with a healthy baby girl, Lucy begins to notice something sinister through Hindle’s gleaming charm, and she sets out to uncover the unsettling truth about him, and her own “birth story.” Cool!
Hulu’s other original offerings aren’t too inspiring this month. Only Love, Victor season 2 on June 11 moves the needle much.
