Today is March 1st, which means we have a whole new set of titles to tell you about that just dropped on Netflix. The streaming service has 54 new movies/TV shows from nearly every major studio, including Warner Bros., Paramount and Sony, and while that number is still ten less than what we got last March, there’s far more original content on the service than there was a year ago. So, trust me when I say you’ve got plenty of options.
So many options, in fact, that I often find myself browsing for so long that I can’t decide on what to watch until it gets too late and I go to bed instead. First world problems, right?
In any case, below you’ll find the full list as well as a few descriptions of some personal favorites. Or some that I just felt like commenting on.

The streaming sector may be growing ever more crowded as increasing numbers of providers embrace the video-on-demand model of content distribution, but industry pioneer Netflix continues to dominate in terms of original content and more than double the subscribers of its nearest competitor, Disney+. And in March of 2020, those 62 million subscribers have a lot of compelling movies and series to look forward to, both original and imported.
In terms of weekly series, Crash Landing On You, the second-highest-rated Korean drama in cable television history after Sky Castle, and Chinese romcom Find Yourself both begin airing new episodes on Sundays in March, while the South Korean series Itaewon Class, the first project from distribution company Showbox, premieres new episodes on Fridays.

Matthew Ross’ “Siberia” is the rare film involving diamond smuggling, international intrigue, double-crosses and Russian gangsters that might have actually been better off jettisoning all of those elements. Starring Keanu Reeves as Lucas Hill, an American diamond dealer who winds up in a remote corner of Siberia trying to salvage a botched deal, the film tries to use its b-movie framework as a jumping-off point into the sort of bleak romanticism that has powered auteurist thrillers from “The Conformist” to “The American.” But in the end, it can never decide what kind of film it wants to be, drifting into drab formlessness when it needs to find moments of poetry, and reverting to dull clichés when it wants to indulge its thriller instincts, winding up as frosty and uninviting as its setting.
Reeves has always been an excellent if idiosyncratic actor, but his highly specific range can turn into a weakness when he’s misused,...

“I want you to do something for me,” says a steely femme fatale (Ana Ularu) to the married American diamond merchant (Keanu Reeves) she’s been screwing for a couple of days after their chance encounter in the Russian hinterlands: “Fuck me, right now, like you fuck your wife.” The man agrees. They make love in the missionary position. The woman asks him to grunt his wife’s name when he orgasms, and he agrees to that, too. It’s a strange scene, and one that’s shot with all the erotic power of a David Caruso movie from the ’90s, but it’s one of the only times that Matthew Ross’ (“Frank & Lola”) torpid and dysfunctional new thriller actually focuses on the part of the story it should be telling.

Now that the world has come to its senses and begun treating Keanu Reeves as the treasure he is, we can start anticipating new movies from him with cautious optimism once again. His latest is “Siberia,” which brings him to the cold heart of Russia so that he can attempt to salvage a diamond deal gone wrong. Watch the trailer below.
Here’s the tantalizingly brief synopsis: “When a business deal in Russia goes south, a U.S. diamond merchant (Keanu Reeves) and his lover (Ana Ularu) are caught in a lethal crossfire between the buyer and federal intelligence service.” Not mentioned there but very present in the trailer is Pasha D. Lychnikoff, who plays the baddie threatening to ruin things for our heroes.

There are numerous surprises waiting in Frank & Lola, Matthew Ross’ lurid psycho-thriller, not least of which is the way the director utilizes his actors. Ross, a first-time feature filmmaker who arrives here confidently, casts the oft-menacing Michael Shannon, playing hot-shot Las Vegas chef Frank, as a smoldering romantic lead-cum-action man. Meanwhile, frequent manic pixie dream girl Imogen Poots, playing Frank’s girlfriend Lola, is positioned as a femme fatale. We expect one actor to bring the edge, and it turns out that where he has a warped everyman quality here, it’s she who adds the element of unpredictability.
Frank and Lola’s relationship begins charmingly enough. Recalling a time when American movies were more playful with their editing, the director cuts back and forth in the timeline of their courtship, encapsulating months in minutes during one delightful early sequence. Frank makes Lola a luxurious omelette and takes her on a drive round Vegas,...

There’s a bewitching and intensely intoxicating quality to the opening act of “Frank & Lola,” a seductive, romantic noir turned psychosexual drama from assured first-time feature director Matthew M. Ross. The movie immediately and effortlessly taps into a sensual moodiness — the nervous and excited feeling of early intimacy, coupled with the anxiety of rejection and the fear of losing something exhilarating. And while “Frank & Lola” never quite recaptures the nascent electricity and tension — transforming into something much more dark, paranoiac, and tortured — the impact of the first act’s tremulous emotions and haunting scenes are so lasting, the withdrawal bedevils everything that follows.

Michael Shannon and Imogene Poots star in a dark, sexy tale about a twisted romance between aspiring fashion designer Lola and gifted chef Frank in Frank & Lola. Secrets and half-truths suffuse this noir-ish tale which is set, appropriately, partly in Las Vegas, a city of illusions that touts itself as a place of secrets, and partly in Paris, city of lights and love, of haute couture, haute cuisine, and heartbreak.
Opposites attract but this mix may just be too hot. From the first scene, which opens with the two in bed, the sexy, edgy Frank & Lola will bring Last Tango In Paris to mind for some audiences. It is clear from the very beginning that these two are a mismatch but they are both strongly draw together, each finding in the other...

Michael Shannon ventures down a dark, meandering path in the tense first trailer for Frank & Lola.
Helmed by journalist-turned-director Matthew M. Ross, the striking, noir-esque drama finds the stoic actor in the role of Frank, an up-and-coming chef rising through the ranks of Las Vegas’ culinary scene. One evening, he meets Lola (Imogen Poots) a successful fashion designer, and the sparks begin to fly.
It’s a fiery, intense relationship, and the two spend some time revelling in the so-called Honeymoon Period. However, doubt begins to seep into Frank’s troubled mind after a man from Lola’s past stars making accusations against Poots’ high-flying designer. It effectively drives a wedge between the titular pair, and feelings of obsession, betrayal and even revenge begin to bubble to the surface – and fast.

"He played you. You got played." Paladin has released the official trailer for an indie drama titled Frank & Lola, a self-described "psychosexual noir romance about love and sex", set mostly in Las Vegas. Michael Shannon plays a top notch chef living in Las Vegas, who meets and hooks up with the fairly broken and troubled Lola, played by Imogen Poots. The two get mixed up in various sexual encounters while dealing with other personal problems in their own lives. I actually saw this at the Sundance Film Festival, where it premiered earlier this year, and it's fairly forgettable. The story is all over the place, it relies too much on the sex without much substance elsewhere, and the performances are fine but don't stand out in anyway. Also featuring Justin Long, Michael Nyqvist and Rosanna Arquette. If you're still curious, give it a look. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Matthew Ross' Frank & Lola,...

Frank & Lola, a noirish erotic thriller from journalist-turned-director Matthew M. Ross, finds leads Michael Shannon and Imogen Poots in top form. They excel as lovers in this tightly-wound psychosexual love story that has elements of the best of Eyes Wide Shut.

At the bar of his establishment he meets Poots’ Lola as she glides into his bar, and director Ross sets the scene by opening the film on the ensuing sex, a moody awkward sequence that heightens a sense of menace behind these beautiful starlets.
As time passes, Frank grows ever-conscious of the age gap between them both, and has suspicions about a rich younger man (Justin Long) who offers Lola a dream job at a fashion outlet. Soon his worst fears are confirmed, as Lola returns home one night in tears, admitting to a one night...

While falling head over heels in love overpowers and overwhelms, it can be a scarily destabilizing experience. Fear of getting hurt feels all too real a possibility for Frank (Michael Shannon), a talented but brooding and jealous chef, and Lola (Imogen Poots), a gorgeous but flighty...

Universal has acquired Matthew Ross' drama Frank & Lola. A source pegged the deal at $2 million. Though the studio is buying the adult drama, it won't do the releasing. Instead, a third party, still to be determined, will give the film a theatrical release, likely Focus World or a specialty distributor. Ross also wrote the screenplay. Michael Nyqvist, Justin Long, Emmanuelle Devos and Rosanna Arquette co-star. Frank & Lola made its world premiere at the Sundance

Now Shannon gets another chance to demonstrate his skill at portraying flawed but fascinating men in Frank & Lola, a Sundance film from first-time writer-director Matthew M. Ross. Shannon’s performance is the main attraction of this dark character drama, but it also boasts a seductive atmosphere
