If you thought Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and director Brad Peyton unleashed mayhem in “San Andreas,” just wait until you see what they’ve cooked up for “Rampage.” The duo’s new film is based on the 1980’s arcade video game of the same name and puts The Rock in the war path of gigantic monsters. Let’s face it: We’ve always wanted to see The Rock and King Kong try and kill each other.

“Rampage” stars The Rock opposite Naomie Harris, Malin Åkerman, and Joe Manganiello. The four play a group of scientists, engineers, and soldiers who form a task force to try and take down a hoard of mutated animals, one of which is a gigantic ape that is more or less King Kong.

If there’s one complaint that’s often leveled at Hollywood creature features, it’s that the subgenre tends to pay so much attention to jaw-dropping visual effects that the human characters – shallow, thinly-drawn human characters at that – are subsequently swept aside in the name of spectacle.
From Godzilla to Pacific Rim, you don’t have to look too far to locate an example of a western monster movie told through the lens of a forgettable lead, and though Paramount’s Baywatch flop stands as living proof that Dwayne Johnson is not, in fact, critically bulletproof, many are already looking to New Line’s Rampage adaptation in the hope of an entertaining, yet compelling creature feature.
Headed up by director Brad Peyton, who reunites with Johnson after the surprisingly successful San Andreas, the story details released thus far point to a relatively straightforward, effects-laden blockbuster of...

If you’re partial to movies featuring impossibly large creatures causing a ruckus, 2018 is shaping up to be a cinematic treat. In the first four months alone, we have the back-to-back punch of Pacific Rim: Uprising and Rampage, New Line and Brad Peyton’s monster movie in which three grossly mutated animals – one silverback gorilla, one lizard, and a wolf – leave a trail of destruction all the way to Chicago’s Willis Tower.
Attempting to curb three skyscraping abominations isn’t a job for the faint of heart, then, and thankfully, New Line has recruited Hollywood superstar Dwayne Johnson (The Fate of the Furious) to cancel the impending apocalypse. On board to play primatologist Davis Okoye, Johnson’s character is essentially the emotional crux of Rampage in the sense that he shares an unshakable bond with George, the “extraordinarily intelligent, silverback gorilla” that is blown up to a mammoth size...

Opening in theaters this week is San Andreas, which was directed by Brad Peyton (Journey 2: The Mysterious Island) and follows the aftermath of a massive earthquake in California, and a rescue-chopper pilot (Dwayne Johnson) that makes a dangerous journey across the state in order to rescue his estranged daughter (Alexandra Daddario).
Full of everything you’d expect from a big summer blockbuster, the film delivers a wildly entertaining ride, with our own Matt Donato calling it the “epitome of a summer blockbuster with plenty of eye-popping industrial carnage to behold” in his review.
A few weeks ago during the Los Angeles press day for San Andreas, we sat down with Peyton for an exclusive interview to speak about why the film is not a disaster movie, what he liked about the script, and reuniting with Dwayne Johnson.
Check it out in the video above and be sure to catch...

San Andreas: the Pompeii of 2015. Now wait! Before you go jumping off of a San Francisco skyscraper, let me assure you that my comment doesn’t carry a negative connotation. I mean, it’s not exactly an award-worthy compliment, but what I’m saying is that Brad Peyton’s latest disaster flick could have been a Hell of a lot worse (yes, Pompeii is Passable). You can thank Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson for that, his ready-to-burst-at-the-seems shirt choice, and the millions of Californian extras who gave their lives in the making of San Andreas. Because what better reminder of life’s fragility is there than toppling buildings and eighty-foot tsunamis leveling entire American coastlines?
But this isn’t a movie solely built on scientific research, the menacing activation of the San Andreas fault line, and repugnant businessmen who kill other people to ensure their own safety (we’ll get to this later). Heavens no!

I Am Number Four
Opens: February 18th 2011
Cast: Alex Pettyfer, Timothy Olyphant, Dianna Agron, Kevin Durand, Teresa Palmer
Director: D.J. Caruso
Summary: Nine infant aliens flee their home planet to hide out on Earth. The species that destroyed their planet however has followed them and sets out to hunt them down. As the infants grow into teenagers with special powers, three of them are killed. A fourth has fallen in love and now has something to stand up and fight for.
Analysis: In premise and look, this sounds like a big budget and more action-oriented reboot of late sci-fi teen drama "Roswell". Though based on a young adult novel series, it was another title in this category that was the impetus for this adaptation - Stephenie Meyer's "Twilight" series. Any novels with a focus on teen romance and an other worldly touch are presently being bought up right and...

Knight And Day (12A)
(James Mangold, 2010, Us) Tom Cruise, Cameron Diaz, Peter Sarsgaard. 109 mins
Tropic Thunder proved that Cruise could laugh at himself, but despite a hint of self-parodying craziness here, we're not necessarily laughing with him this time. Never one to pass up an alpha-male role, Cruise plays an indestructible rogue superspy in this Grazia-friendly action comedy, co-opting civilian Diaz into a series of tense situations, most of which we never see them getting out of; he simply drugs her and she wakes up somewhere else when it's all over, in a different set of clothes. Who says romance is dead? He's supposed to be Bourne with a smile but he's more like the Milk Tray man as an international date rapist.
Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky (15)
(Jan Kounen, 2009, Fra) Anna Mouglalis, Mads Mikkelsen, Yelena Morozova. 119 mins
Almost a sequel to Audrey Tautou's Coco Before Chanel, this sketches out...

Coco Rocha and Zac Posen. From PatrickMcMullan.com.Loud outfits were the theme of the night at the New Yorkers for Children benefit, where guests who let their clothes do the talking gathered to sip cocktails in the Mandarin Oriental high above Columbus Circle, in New York City. Joshua Jackson and feather-clad Diane Kruger were some of the first to arrive and peruse the silent auction as Emmy Rossum, Tinsley Mortimer, and Tara Subkoff circled the room. Surrounded by all kinds of wild ensembles, the Halcyon Company's Victor Kubicek described how he avoided a wardrobe disaster: "I managed to leave my suit on the plane from L.A., but luckily they got it to me a couple of hours ago." His partner, Derek Anderson, also had a fashion emergency: "For me it was the cufflinks—I had to borrow some paperclips from the hotel!" Slowly the party drifted into the daffodil-bedecked room for dinner.
