€1.412 million are being shared among the new features by Triin Ruumet, Marko Raat and Mart Kivastik. In the first round of production subsidies announced for 2021, the Estonian Film Institute (Efi) has decided that €1.412 million will be shared amongst three features. With Christmas now only a week away, there’s a big day of genre-related home entertainment releases to look forward to in the meantime, just in case you were in need of some last-minute gift ideas (or if you were looking to spoil yourself, which is totally cool). Easily my most anticipated Blu-ray release for all of 2017, Synapse Films' stunning 4K restoration of Suspiria gets the royal treatment via an incredible three-disc limited edition Steelbook set this Tuesday, and Severin Films is also keeping busy with their HD upgrade of The Amicus Collection, which includes Asylum, And Now The Screaming Starts, and The Beast Must Die.
Other notable Blu-ray and DVD releases for December 19th include American Gothic, Leatherface, mother!, and the limited edition Steelbook for Donnie Darko.
American Gothic (Scream Factory, Blu-ray)
A new tale of terror from the director of The Legend of Hell House and The Incubus.

After taking viewers into Hell House and journeying to Witch Mountain, director John Hough introduced moviegoers to an island where strangers are sinners, and "Ma" and "Pa" aren't afraid to dole out lethal punishment. Initially announced during Scream Factory's Comic-Con reveals, the American Gothic (1988) Blu-ray now has an official December release date and cover (featuring the film's original poster art):
From Scream Factory: "We are now taking pre-orders for our upcoming release of the eccentric stranded-on-an-island 1988 thriller American Gothic which makes its Blu-ray format debut! Release date is planned for December 19th.
When six young friends fly off on a weekend getaway and suddenly find themselves with engine trouble, they have no choice but to land on a remote Pacific island. Looking for shelter, they are grateful when they meet "Ma" and "Pa" and their children – an bizarre family still living in the backwoods as if it's still the 1920s.

Without question, being a stepparent can be rough. It’s a balancing act between wanting what’s best for the child, and the need to ingratiate oneself and hopefully, earn and obtain love. This is a tightrope that Jerry Blake (Terry O’Quinn) has no interest in walking – if he can’t implement his perfect family plan, he switches policies in the most violent way possible. Welcome to the world of The Stepfather (1987), a pretty good thriller elevated to classic status due to a legendary performance by O’Quinn.
And while Jerry Blake has little patience for deviation from his ideals, so too do Henry Morrison and Bill Hodgkins – all identities that our stepdad creates in his twisted pursuit of perfection. (If at first you don’t succeed, kill and kill again.) The Stepfather proves that home is where the hurt is.

Our previous battle was a heckuva long time ago. Jeepers My apologies. But were back on track and ready to announce the winner of the last fight If youll recall Tawny Kitaen of Witchboard was up against Janet Wright of the lesserknown American Gothic. Its not a surprise to learn that Ms. Kitaen takes the win and will move onto the semifinal round. We wish we could see more of Ms. Wrights fabulous Fanny (that didnt sound quite right) but she will take a bow and leave the ring for good. As for Kitaens Linda well see you in the near future. Get some rest stop playing the damn board by yourself and prepare for your next battle...

Disgusting, or shocking, are words often used to inform the audience what awaits them in a horror film. When a film is about demon rape, lurid immediately comes to mind. However, if you have a restrained (and respected) British horror director at the helm, will the results be different? Incubus (1982) is a fascinating shocker that attempts to walk the line between classy whodunit and lascivious bloodlust.
Released in September by Artists Releasing Corporation, Incubus (or, The Incubus according to the poster) had a large budget for a horror title at the time (5.1 million Cad) and was not a draw at the box office. Reviews were mostly dismal as well, and considering the subject matter, this is not surprising. ‘Demon rape’ does not scream fun night out at the movies. However, Incubus provides many moments of terror designed with the discerning horror fiend in mind. It’s an underappreciated gem.
