Though PinkPantheress’s Heaven Knows is dotted with samples across its runtime, the British singer’s debut album nonetheless presents an original, unique vision. A departure from her 2021 mixtape To Hell with It, which is built around succinct, TikTok-ready songs and easily recognizable sonic quotations from various U.K. dance cuts, Heaven Knows is a full-throated pop album with an eye on contemporary trends.
“The Aisle” is as good a bellwether as any to determine if fans will take the leaps that PinkPantheress is asking of them. It’s more robust than anything we’ve heard from her before, with glossy disco inflections and drum work, and layer upon layer of jittering synths. The track’s invocation of disco and nod to 2Pac’s “California Love” are in service of mainstream pop consumption rather than a revivalist genre experiment. Its pastiche is certainly less “cool,” but PinkPantheress delivers it with a surprising ease.

“Another Life,” the first song on PinkPantheress’ long-awaited debut album, Heaven Knows, opens with the ominous sound of an electrified cathedral organ. The collaboration with Nigerian musician Rema, in which the British singer wakes up next to her partner only to find him dead, fittingly sounds like a funeral. “Can you please wake up, babe? Now you’re scaring me,” she sings, before coming to terms with her reality: “Guess you died today, and I can’t believe it. You lost your soul, you know that you can’t stop this.

PinkPantheress has, at last, announced her debut album Heaven Knows. It arrives November 10th, and along with the lead single “Capable of Love,” the English artist has unveiled a run of 2024 headlining tour dates.
While PinkPantheress hasn’t revealed the album’s full tracklist yet, we do know it’ll be 13 tracks with contributions from heavyweights like Greg Kurstin, Mura Masa, Danny L Harle, Count Baldor, Phil, and Cash Cobain. “The record is about grief for a loss but being at peace with yourself in your aloneness,” she said in a press release. “Journeying from hell into purgatory, but I’m Ok with being there.” Pre-orders are ongoing.

From the creator of To Hell With It comes Heaven Knows. On Thursday, PinkPantheress announced the release of her debut LP, which grapples with “being at peace with yourself in your aloneness” amid grief, on Nov. 10.
“What an intense insane moment ! my first album is coming out and you know i love a pun so it’s called ‘heaven knows,’ out on November 10th,” PinkPantheress wrote on Instagram. “This album is an accumulation of music I’ve made over the last two years, with some beloved tunes that might sound...

J Balvin has been laying low since releasing his album Jose back in 2021. Sure, there were some big collabs with Trueno and Ed Sheeran, but fans have been waiting to see what else the Colombian star has in store. Now he’s back in full force — and he’s enlisted Usher and DJ Khaled to make a splash.
His new song “Dientes” is a brash, relentlessly catchy mix of genres that interpolates Usher’s 2004 mega-hit “Yeah” with bold, completely unpredictable sounds. Some of that is because of the masterminds behind...

For Georgia Barnes, the club is a sacred space and dance a holy ritual. “I want to live like we’re dancing,” she declares on “Live Like We’re Dancing,” her 2020 collaboration with Mura Masa. Her third studio album, though, finds her moving in a more introverted direction. On “Give It Up for Love,” she sings about the importance of being willing to give space to others, and It’s Euphoric likewise finds her stepping away from crowd-filled dance floors.
Georgia, daughter of Leftfield’s Neil Barnes, adopts a broader instrumental palette throughout the album. “Give It Up for Love” prominently features acoustic guitar, while other tracks introduce organic instruments like sitar and cello. Georgia’s brand of dance music has always reflected her background as a drummer, and rhythm remains at the heart of tracks like “Mountain Song.”

PinkPantheress follows the “Boy’s A Liar Pt. 2” remix with Ice Spice with another collab, this time with Destroy Lonely for “Turn Your Phone Off.”
The song narrates the story of an unwanted caller/ex-lover that PinkPantheress harbors mixed feelings about. “I turned my phone off but your calls still came through/I reply when they do ’cause I want to chat to you,” she sings in the high-speed chorus. “Then the next day we try again and again/I pick up when you call me so we won’t see the end.

Lil Uzi Vert appeared as the musical guest on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, ripping through their Top 10 hit “Just Wanna Rock” for the late night program’s studio audience on Monday, March 27th. Watch the replay below.
Uzi’s performance took place on a small, circular stage, where they were surrounded by a tightly packed group of backup dancers who helped bring the Jersey club smash to life. At first, the Philly native did an enthusiastic two-step while performing the uptempo track, but then they properly joined in on the fun and stole the show by demonstrating how to do the song’s accompanying TikTok dance challenge.
“Just Wanna Rock” was our Rap Song of the Week back in October. Before that, Uzi’s last release was July’s Red & White EP, which they dropped after subtly changing their pronouns. Last year also saw the rapper make appearances...

Ice Spice has hopped on a new remix of PinkPantheress’ recent song, “Boy’s a Liar.”
For “Boy’s a Liar Pt. 2,” PinkPantheress didn’t make any tweaks to the original’s bustling beat (co-produced with Mura Masa), letting Ice Spice drop in with a verse about a two-timing guy that’s fierce, yet a little lovelorn: “Duckin’ my shit, cause he know what I’m on/But when he hit me I’m not gonna respond/But I don’t sleep enough without you/And I can’t eat enough without you.

Slowthai leans into a bruising post-punk sound on his new song, “Selfish,” which will appear on his upcoming third album, Ugly, out March 3 via Method Records/Interscope Records.

On Monday’s “The Late Show,” Stephen Colbert kicked things off with a cold open gag inspired by the recent uproar over Spotify’s deal with podcaster Joe Rogan, because of the the huge amount of factually incorrect information about vaccines and Covid-19 featured on his show.
The gag was simple: A Spotify playlist where each selected song formed part of a sentence advancing lies about Covid-19 vaccines.
Of course, if you need a quick catch up: Last week Neil Young removed his music from Spotify in protest of Rogan. The same week, more than 200 scientists and medical experts released an open letter urging Spotify to quit promoting vaccine misinformation. And on Friday, Joni Mitchell announced she would be removing her music from Spotify to show solidarity with Young.
This has resulted in Spotify taking a huge stock market hit, and now it says it will add content warnings to podcasts touching on Covid.

Music is a universal language. You don’t have to understand the lyrics to feel the joys, the heartbreaks, and the frustrations expressed in a melody. You don’t have to pinpoint musical styles to feel the nostalgia a beat can invoke. For the likes of Bratty in Mexico to Anatomy Rabbit in Thailand, the gentle exploration of love is a palpable and common through line. For Sleepy Hallow in Brooklyn and PinkPantheress in the UK, their nods to ’90s production and expansion of classic international genres, respectively, both hold...
