"True action greatness!" Hi-Yah! has released one more official trailer for the "brutally entertaining" Hong Kong action film Raging Fire, which was already released in cinemas in the US a few months back. We've already posted a few trailers for this previously, but with a streaming release on the martial arts channel Hi-Yah! in October, they've dropped off another explosive trailer to enjoy. Donnie Yen stars as Shan, a highly respected hardline cop with a long history of success on dangerous cases. However, his past unexpectedly comes back to haunt him when a sting operation is attacked by a mysterious group of criminals led by Ngo, his former protégé, a talented former officer who had once respected and admired Shan but ended up in prison. Co-starring Nicholas Tse as Ngo, with Jeana Ho, Ray Lui, Patrick Tam, Ben Lam, Deep Ng, and Kang Yu. This honestly might be the best...

The Fatal Raid is a contemporary Hong Kong action flick offering the best and the worst of this category of subtitled imports. It’s cops vs. bad guys, setting up a slew of intense, elaborately staged action sequences. It also features a handful of lethally gifted babes (some of whom wear less than their situations call for) among the ranks on both sides of the law, reviving the “girls with guns” subset of the martial arts family that thrived a couple of decades ago on both sides of the Pacific.
My low rating comes from the script being hard to follow as it jumps between two time frames 20 years apart, and several illogical aspects to what the characters do, even once we understand their motivations.

Recently, we have scene the return of the “Girls with Guns” sub-genre to the Jade Screen with several female led action movies emerging with various degrees of success, with former action heroines slipping back into their former roles after years away. After Kara Hui returned to action prominence in “Mrs K” in 2016, we now have the resurrection of Jade Leung in Jacky Lee’s “The Fatal Raid”.

Sequel to the 2016 film “Special Female Force”, “The Fatal Raid” is another addition to the Girls with Guns subcategory, which seems to ascend the stairs of the most popular action flick quite rapidly.
“The Fatal Raid” is screening at New York Asian Film Festival
The story begins with a rather violent confrontation between Detective Tam, Inspector Madam Fong, Blacky and a team of commandos, and a group of outlaws trying to cross to Macao through Hong Kong. The result was tragic for the law forces, with a number of commandos getting killed and Blackie disappearing. 20 years later, Tam and Madam Fong still feel much regret about the incident, but now have a chance to atone, during a mission of escorting the female deputy commissioner of the Hong Kong Police Force to Macao, along with four female officers: Alma, Zi Han, Sheila, and Tong Yu. Nicolas Cage, accompanied by Australian actress and producer Nikki Whelan, trod the red carpet on Saturday night as part of the opening festivities at the third edition of the International Film Festival and Awards.
Set as a talent ambassador, Cage held small group seminars earlier on Saturday. On Sunday he will hold a masterclass.
His presence helped compensate for a couple of high-profile mainland Chinese talent absentees, presumably summoned North for the Huabiao Awards taking place in China the same evening.
The breezy opening event included a specially composed song and dance routine, a whirl of clips from films that will unspool over the coming week, and an elaborate ticket-slotting set-piece.
International guests in attendance included director of Copenhagen Pix Film Festival Jacob Neiiendam; director of Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival Tiina Lokk; director of Sydney Film Festival, Nashen Moodley; artistic director of Chicago International Film Festival, Mimi Plauche; director of Busan International Film Festival,...

Girls with guns movies similar to “The Inspector Wears Skirts” series directed by Wellson Chin Sing Wai, were popular in Hong Kong during the late 80s. In this updated version, director Wilson Chin Kwok Wai offers us nothing new except more cleavage and perhaps a glossier looking movie.
Nonetheless, “Special Female Force” kicks off with a bang in a Thailand hotel resort where an all-female task force, dressed only in bikinis, comes face to face with a terrorist known as the President. After a very violent shootout in which five of the six members were killed, the President manages to escape unharmed thanks to the help of his blood thirty body guard.
Fast forward twenty years, we learn that the sole survivor is now working in the Hong Kong police academy, where she’s taking on new female recruits. It also happens that one of the girls...

Wilson Chin takes another trip back to Hong Kong’s hottest nightlife district (apparently) with “Lan Kwai Fong 3”, completing an unlikely but extremely popular trilogy about the lives and lusts of good looking young party goers. As usual, the third instalment features another cast of unfeasibly attractive stars, with series regulars Jeana Ho and Jason Chan joined by the likes of Ava, Whitney Hui, Celia K and Alex Lam for more bumping and grinding on the dance floor. The film’s narrative basically revolves around Ava as Sara and Alex Lam as her fiancé Sean, a couple going through a rough patch due to his refusal to stop hanging around with his ex-girlfriend. Naturally, her friends Jeana (Jeana Ho), Jolie (Whitney Hui) and Papa (Celia K) advise her to party even harder and forget about him. Things get more complicated after she hooks up with Korean hunk Kim (Lee...

The revival of category III rated Chinese erotic cinema continues with “Due West: Our Sex Journey”, based on the popular internet writings of Xiang Xi Murakami Haruki. Like the recent global hit “Sex & Zen: Extreme Ecstasy”, the film was shot in 3D, and comes from the same team, again written by Mark Wu, who also worked on the screenplay for “Lan Kwai Fong”, and who here makes his directorial debut. Taking the male lead is Justin Cheung, a man with plenty of genre experience, having starred in both “Sex and Zen” and the ridiculous but enjoyable “The 33D Invader”, backed by Wu himself, plus, of course, an impressive number of attractive actresses from across Asia, including Jeana Ho (“Hong Kong Ghost Stories”), Celia Kwok, Angelina Zhang, Daniella Wang, and Japanese Av idol Kizaki Jessica. Justin Cheung stars and narrates as Frankie, a young Hong Kong man brought up in a strict middle class family,...
