Nearly 10 years after hammering home the horrors of sex, David Robert Mitchell and Maika Monroe will team up again for They Follow, a sequel to their beloved 2015 film It Follows.
Like the original, Mitchell will write and produce They Follow, while Monroe will reprise her role as Jay Height, the final girl at the center of the Std allegory. Mitchell produces with Jake Weiner and Chris Bender of Good Fear Content, as well as original It Follows producers David Kaplan, Erik Rommesmo, Rebecca Green, and Laura Smith.
Production for the long-awaited sequel will begin next year. The film arrives via Neon, the production company home to such films as I, Tonya, Parasite, Portrait of a Lady on Fire, and Spencer. Ever get that feeling that something's creeping up right behind you? Eh, don't worry about it, I'm sure it's nothing. Nothing, that is, except the news that one of the freakiest horror movies ever made is about to get a long-awaited sequel.
Back in 2015, writer/director David Robert Mitchell unleashed the tense and quietly terrifying "It Follows" upon unsuspecting viewers. Critics hailed it as an instant classic while audiences ate it up and asked for seconds, helping the very responsibly-budgeted horror flick make more than 20 times its cost during its theatrical run. It was, by all reasonable metrics, an unmitigated success and the unofficial beginning of star Maika Monroe's ascension to genuine scream queen territory. Now, almost a decade later, indie-friendly studio Neon is throwing their distribution and production muscle behind a sequel, titled "They Follow."

David Robert Mitchell is finally making his long-awaited followup to horror hit It Follows. Mitchell is reteaming with star Maika Monroe on They Follow, with Tom Quinn’s Neon introducing the package to buyers at AFM this week.
They Follow will once again star Monroe as Jay Height, whom audiences met in the 2014 film as a young woman who, after having sex with her boyfriend for the first time, learns she will now be hunted by a mysterious entity. The only way to temporarily stave off death is to pass on the curse to someone else, who will become next on the list followed by the entity.
The film grossed $21.9 million globally on a budget of around $1 million. Over the years, talent behind It Follows has discussed a sequel, with Neon’s Quinn suggesting in 2015 it could involve people turning the tables on the entity and following it to its source.

The Orchard has acquired the North American distribution rights to writer-director Brett Haley’s drama “The Hero.” The film premiered Saturday in the Sundance Film Festival’s U.S. Dramatic Competition section.
“The Hero” stars Sam Elliott as Lee Hayden, an iconic Western singer whose best performances are decades behind him. His daily routine of reliving the glory days with his “former-co-star-turned-dealer” Jeremy (Nick Offerman) is upended when he receives a cancer diagnosis. Krysten Ritter and Laura Prepon co-star.
Haley’s previous film “I’ll See You In My Dreams” entered last year’s Sundance very quietly before emerging as one of the most commercially successful films from the festival, taking in $7.5 million at the box office. “The Hero” is an actor’s showcase that’s been generating much more buzz, thanks in part to early word of mouth. Elliott’s late-career starring role could generate awards traction.
