The Winchesters has failed to find a new home. Efforts to find an outlet to take on season two of the Supernatural spin-off series were unsuccessful. The CW cancelled the series last month.
Starring Meg Donnelly, Drake Rodger, Jonathan ”JoJo” Fleites, Nida Khurshid, Demetria McKinney, Bianca Kajlich, and Jensen Ackles (as narrator), the series follows the story of how John and Mary Winchester met, fell in love, and searched for their fathers while fighting monsters together.

The campaign to save The Winchesters is over, and it's not the outcome we hoped for.
Over the weekend, Jensen Ackles took to Twitter to reveal that efforts to save the Supernatural spinoff had failed, meaning that The Winchesters Season 1 finale cliffhangers won't have any resolution.
"To all of you who watched, followed, and supported this story, thank you," Ackles, who served as EP and recurring guest star on the series, wrote.
"And to all those who brought this show to life...I couldn't be more proud of what we all did together."
The actor recognized that "timing is everything" and that The CW's shift in focus, coupled with the Writers Guild strike, meant that efforts to revive the show at another outlet was more difficult than anticipated.
"Sleep well dear [The Winchesters]. Until we meet again. Somewhere down the road," Ackles, who appeared on all 15 seasons of the original series on The CW,...

This article contains spoilers for The Winchesters through episode 8.
Back when it first aired in November 2020, the ending of The CW’s beloved Supernatural was met with some criticism. Some viewers were miffed about a tacked-on “Destiel” fan service, while others were incredibly angry that Dean met his end in a seemingly run-of-the-mill hunt, and some more still were just bemoaning that the series had just been on for too long at that point. Supernatural ended in a big way, with God being replaced, Dean (Jensen Ackles) dying, and Sam (Jared Padalecki) getting a really bad wig and old age makeup before he reunites with his brother in Heaven. It was a tumultuous time.
Supernatural had a long run, and in so doing had several spinoff shows tossed around before being eventually dumped. Wayward Sisters: we hardly knew ye. Bloodlines can stay dead. Supernatural creator Eric Kripke also once pitched...

"Supernatural" ran for a whopping 15 seasons, not including the prequel "The Winchesters," which follows a young John and Mary Winchester before the events of the original series. The show, which was actually originally intended to be about two journalists, spans over 300 episodes of brothers Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) saving people, hunting things, and doing the family business, with a flannel shirt, a gruff voice, and a classic rock soundtrack. That's hundreds of hours of monsters, magic, laughter, tears, rage, and brotherly love. How do you even begin to narrow it down to the best episodes?
With such an expansive run, the show was bound to have some low points (let me just take this moment to say ... tetanus), but there are dozens of high points to choose from, too. When "Supernatural" is at its worst, it can be a chore to watch, with an endless carousel...

Certain questions are raised when a franchise gets a prequel. How true will it be to the source material? Who will make an appearance? One of the little joys of watching a prequel series is to meet characters you know will be influential later. When we look at a show like The Winchesters, we must wonder which baddies might play a part when its predecessor Supernatural established 15 seasons of continuity. And this is me telling you I think it should be a classic, our original Big Bad, ‘Ol Yellow Eyes himself.
The Winchesters has proven to be a little bit canon and a lotta bit retcon. Keep in mind that The Winchesters could not exist if the writers didn’t take some liberties with the source material.

The Winchesters is adding another familiar face for fans of Supernatural.
The prequel series has locked in Gil McKinney for an upcoming episode of the freshman drama, TV Line reports.
If you watch Supernatural online, you know McKinney portrayed Dean and Sam's paternal grandfather Henry Winchester.
McKinney read a letter that Henry wrote him on The Winchesters Season 1 Episode 1, which premiered earlier this week as The CW's most-watched series debut of the season.
Henry is described as “the intellectual patriarch of the Winchester clan."
“Having come from a long line of Men of Letters, Henry fully dedicated his life to the institution," reads the description.
"However, when a Men of Letters’ mission leads to Henry’s untimely death, his absence and the secrecy surrounding his life inside the organization creates an unrepairable rift in his family."

If you thought that 15 seasons of fighting demons and daddy issues would be the end of the "Supernatural" saga, then you probably weren't paying attention. The titular family at the center of "The Winchesters" is evidently immortal and no amount of season finales or completed character arcs can keep them down for very long. This time around, the new CW spin-off series is delving into the untold love story of John Winchester (Drake Rodger) and Mary Campbell (Meg Donnelly), the future parents of Sam and Dean. In a lot of ways, this prequel is treading very familiar ground: it's the same family, once again on the hunt to take out the creatures that go bump in the night. But "The Winchesters" boasts a few key changes. This time it's a tale of romance not brotherhood, it's set in the '70s, and there's my favorite change of all — it's an...

Building on a “beloved international treasure” like The CW’s “Supernatural,” which ran for 15 years and amassed an envious number of devotees, is not an easy feat, but “The Winchesters” showrunner and executive producer Robbie Thompson finds the daunting task as thrilling as it is challenging. Thompson, who was involved as a producer on the “mothership” for five seasons, was deliberate in crafting a world that paid homage to yet stood apart from “Supernatural,” crediting the creative team behind Chaos Machine Productions for its 1970s take on the preexisting universe.

He will play Samuel Campbell, the father of Mary – Sam and Dean's mother. A prequel to the Supernatural series, the show revolves around the romance of John and Mary Winchester before they had their sons. The Winchesters debuts tonight on The CW.

At long last, a "Supernatural" spin-off is on its way to fill the void that those monster-hunting brothers left behind. Across its triumphant 15-season run, many attempts were made to develop a spin-off and explore the world of supernatural monster hunters, but only one has actually survived beyond its pilot: "The Winchesters."
Stop me if this sounds familiar, but the story begins with Mary Campbell, a hunter who's been fighting the forces of darkness since she was old enough to wield a knife. Now she's embarking on a hunt like no other, following breadcrumbs to solve the mystery of her missing father, who never returned from a hunting trip. Mary, an experienced hunter herself, decides to take matters into her own hands and follow his tracks to figure out the details of his case. But since she doesn't have a tall, well-researched sibling to help her out, she opts for...

When horror series “Supernatural” debuted in 2005, no one thought it had the potential to last over 15 seasons. The series stayed on so long that it garnered multiple generations of fans, and found stars Jared Padelecki and Jensen Ackles marrying their co-stars in real life. But after over a decade of the longest monster hunter road trip in history that took siblings Sam and Dean to hell and back, (a few times), the series came to an end in 2020. And closed a chapter on the longest running and one of the most impactful genre shows in history.
Six months after Sam (Jared Padelecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) Winchester drove their beloved Impala “Baby” off into the sunset, “The Winchesters,” a prequel series focusing on Sam and Dean’s parents John and Mary Winchester, was announced. “The Winchesters,” premiering on The CW Tuesday night, is the first “Supernatural” spinoff to make it to air.

Production is moving forward for Jensen and Danneel Ackles. Television for two more years and teases there’s a few more stories they’re looking to share in the future through their production company, Chaos Machine.

Meg Donnelly as Mary and Drake Rodger as John in ‘The Winchesters’
The CW’s Supernatural prequel, The Winchesters, made its New York Comic Con debut on October 9, 2022, with Supernatural’s Dean Winchester – Jensen Ackles – joining Meg Donnelly (“Mary Campbell”) and Drake Rodger (“John Winchester”), as well as executive producer Daneel Ackles and showrunner Robbie Thompson, for a screening of the show’s first episode followed by a Q&a. Jensen Ackles will be reprising his role as Dean to narrate the prequel which focuses on Sam and Dean’s parents, John and Mary Winchester.
Nycc attendees got a big surprise when Ackles had the pleasure of introducing the actor who will play Samuel Campbell, Mary’s father, and Sam and Dean’s grandfather: Tom Welling. Welling joked he lost a bet and that’s why he’s there, and Ackles reminded everyone he and Welling have been friends since Smallville.

Tom Welling will be pulling double duty on The CW this fall.
News broke Sunday during the New York Comic Con panel for The Winchesters that Welling had booked a role on the forthcoming Supernatural spinoff.
Welling is best known for playing Clark Kent on The WB/CW's Smallville.
According to TV Line, the actor will play Samuel Campbell. If you watch Supernatural online, you know Mitch Pileggi originated the role on the original series.
The Winchesters is a prequel that tells the story of John and Mary Winchester, so it makes sense to have Mary's father (Samuel) as a part of the cast.
The casting news reunites Welling with Jensen Ackles, who appeared on Smallville.

Tonight, The CW's latest offering of Arrow finds Oliver dealing with an obsessive stalker bent on putting all of the Arrow's enemies in a bodybag. The role of Cupid will be played by Amy Gumenick, who previously portrayed Mary Winchester on Supernatural. Originally, Gumenick tested for the role of Laurel Lance on Arrow but that role obviously went to Katie Cassidy, another CW alum - Supernatural, Melrose Place, Gossip Girl. She told The Warp, "I auditioned for [Arrow] several times. I first auditioned when they were casting the pilot, actually, for Katie Cassidy's role. It was a show I wanted to be a part of. I've since then auditioned for various other guest stars and recurring [roles] here and there, but the one didn't hit. 10.3 Soul Survivor
Well, that didn’t last very long did it?
By the end of the episode, Dean is back to being human, Castiel’s got more grace courtesy of Crowley and it looks like we’ve got a new Big Bad on the horizon. After last week’s fairly action-packed instalment, Soul Survivor dials everything back for a more talkative approach that re-aligns everyone in their proper places following the first two episodes. The episode may get things back to normal a bit quicker than we all wanted (I shall miss sassy Deanmon if he is truly gone), but it’s another strong one and features some emotional moments for the brothers Winchester. However, everything’s still a little unsettled.

Amy Gumenick (young Mary Winchester in flashbacks on Supernatural) has been cast in the role, and according to EW the character will be just like her comic book counterpart -- "a lethal villainness with a dangerously obsessive crush on The Arrow." Says Arrow executive producer and creator of Cupid Andrew Kreisberg: “I always loved the idea of Green Arrow having a crazed fan,” When I was writing the comic book, my big goal was to create a villain who would last. Cupid has since appeared in the DC Nation shorts on Cartoon Network, and to have her fight our TV Arrow is so much more than I ever could have hoped for the character.

The Arrow is going to meet No. 1 fan. The CW series is adding Carrie Cutter (a.k.a. Cupid) to season three and EW can exclusively report that Supernatural alum Amy Gumenick has been cast in the role. As in the comics, Cupid will be a lethal villainness with a dangerously obsessive crush on The Arrow. (Surely at least a few Arrow fans can relate?)
Arrow executive producer Andrew Kreisberg created the character during his run on the Green Arrow/Black Canary comic book series. “I always loved the idea of Green Arrow having a crazed fan,” Kreisberg told EW.

This week's Supernatural serves up the perfect combination of characterisation, humour and pathos...

9.14 Captives
Can Robert Berens please be the new writer for all of Supernatural?
A recent addition to the Supernatural writing team, Berens is responsible for the latest episode, Captives, and he’s more than outdone himself, combining excellent characterisation with both humour and pathos (the three perfect ingredients). Seriously, just about everything about this episode makes me really happy. Where do I even start?
The episode begins with a lengthy and heart-wrenching flashback to everything unfortunate and miserable that has happened in the past few seasons (thanks, Supernatural), after which we zoom in on Dean, listening to music alone in his bedroom. It’s a shot whose cinematography emphasises loneliness as Dean listens to Billy Squier’s Lonely is the Night, (which was prominently used at the beginning of season four,...

9.7 Bad Boys
In its ninth season, Supernatural really seems to be going back to its roots; in particular, its very early season roots. In fact, Bad Boys hits so many of the notes that made the earlier seasons memorable that it’s hard to know what exactly to conclude: there’s the really good old-fashioned scary, the emphasis on Dean as Sam’s caretaker as a child, his issues with John, the fact that he’s great with kids, the narratively-interesting ways in which the monsters parallel the brothers’ issues, and the flashbacks themselves, which were such a stylistically important part of the first few seasons. This, coupled with the recent and extremely formulaic (by Supernatural’s formula) Dog Dean Afternoon honestly makes one wonder if there’s a...

When I watch television, I don’t often watch the kinds of things that people expect a woman to watch. This is something that I tend to find funny, because many of those shows have such a large viewing audience that there must be women watching them, it’s just a flawed assumption that they aren’t. To me, it seems to be a no-brainer. When I want to see a female character that I can identify with, then I usually have to turn to specific television genres to find them.
I started to realize that there were fewer female role models on TV for me sometime around the time that I started watching “Scooby Doo.” Even though Scooby and the gang suffered from repetitive plots and recycled scenery, one of the big things the cartoon had going for it was Velma. Velma was one of the very first really...

This was a fantastic Supernatural outingm with major kudos to writer Adam Glass (who also wrote the Garth episodes "Party On, Garth" and "Southern Comfort") and director Serge Ladouceur (who has been the show's resident cinematographer).
It's nice to see a standout episode, especially one that showcases what the series is all about: the Winchester family, its dangerous monster hunting job and the monsters themselves, all while capturing a feeling of past, present and definitely a look to the future.
Granted, "As Time Goes By" was something of a time travel episode, but more so a filling in the blanks of the Winchester blood line.
While we've been privy to Mary Winchester's family (most notably in Supernatural Season 6), John Winchester's side has been a little more mysterious.
Yet, John had always thought his father had abandoned him, essentially turning him into the hardened and monster focused hunter that raised Sam and Dean.

Warning: Spoilers will be present! Turn back if you don’t want to be spoiled.
Most of our readers here just asked themselves, “What the heck is Supernatural?” And here I am saying to myself, “Hopefully I can find those 3 Supernatural fans on this site.”
Since most people don’t know what the show is about, let me explain. Supernatural is a cult hit show about two brothers, named Sam and Dean Winchester, who hunt down and kill the monsters in your closet, the things that go bump in the night, the ghosts, the ghouls, the scary, the creepy, and clowns. The show starts off with their mother, Mary Winchester, being killed by a mysterious man when Dean was 4 and Sam was a baby. Their father, John Winchester learns of the supernatural existence, learns how to hunt and kill them, and takes his kids on the road to teach them how to hunt.

The Winchesters are getting a backseat driver in the upcoming October 10 episode of Supernatural. After tracking down Kevin Tran in the season premiere (watch a sneak peek) and joining with him to find another tablet that could help them close the Gates of Hell forever, Sam and Dean head off to do Kevin a favor. The prophet asks the brothers to check in on his mother to make sure she's safe. They head off, but discover that Crowley has her house surrounded, hoping that he can get to Kevin and his knowledge through Mrs. Tran. The Winchesters pull off a rescue act and head out with Mrs. Tran, deciding to take her along as they search for the tablet. But they'll soon come to realize that a "Tiger Mom" isn't just the stuff of myths.

"Supernatural" fans know Matt Cohen and Amy Gumenick as the young John and Mary Winchester, a (usually) happily married couple who were torn apart by demons meddling with their sons, Sam and Dean. Though John and Mary are both long dead at this point -- Rip -- an indie movie is set to reunite them. Sort of.
Matt Cohen and Amy Gumenick, who played the young versions of John and Mary in two different time-travel episodes, are certainly fan favorites, especially given their regular convention appearances. Now, Zap2it can exclusively reveal that they'll hook up once again for "Evicted," written and directed by indie filmmaker Brendan Raher.
In "Evicted," Gumenick stars as Amy Jeté, a morally bankrupt TV producer who discovers she's being evicted... from existence. Literally. Cohen plays her boyfriend, Scott. It's Gumenick's first feature role, though she's had roles on shows like "Grey's Anatomy" and "Grimm." Cohen...

Supernatural Slide-Show: Most Memorable Action Scenes
This is the versatility of Supernatural: comedy, drama, meta and...action!
Since the first opening scene in the pilot when poor Mary Winchester was pinned to the ceiling and their house exploded in fire, Supernatural has always had action. Which isn't surprising when you consider that the two main characters are hunters...a profession that involves ass-kicking on a fairly consistent basis. In previous slide-shows we've paid our respects to the drama and the comedy and now it's time to bring the action scenes front and center.
Season finales are generally action-packed and I suspect the season 7 finale this week will stay the course. After all, with the defeat of the Leviathans on the line, how can Sam and Dean not engage in some hand-to-hand or stabby combat? Keeping that in mind, I've put together what I think are the most memorable action scenes of the past seven seasons,...

Supernatural's "Mommy Dearest" ended up being a disappointment. In all the lore that's been built up leading to the Winchester brother's confrontation with Eve, the Mother of All. She winds up being easily defeated, because Dean decided to be a wise guy.
The build-up to this episode came crashing down because everything that's been said about her abilities and powers all means nothing. From being able to see through the eyes of all of her babies, she recognizes that there is a demon back in town, Crowley, and he’s not really dead.
The meeting at a diner setup is trite, since it puts the season’s various subplots at a crossroads. The story-arc revolving around Eve simply concludes when she reveals that she's simply been running around trying to create a new human-monster hybrid that cannot be detected by the Hunters.

The boundaries between pop culture and the occult gets mixed up again in the latest episode of Supernatural. In “Frontierland,” both Sam and Dean request that they get sent back in time in order to find the phoenix and use its ashes in order to defeat the Mother of All. This episode is the most entertaining ever since they broke the fourth wall in “The French Mistake.”
Much to everyone else’s amusement, this era is thankfully not like what Dean expects it to be. Instead of a Spaghetti Western, the real west is a reflection of the times—people struggling to make end’s meat in an untamed land.
Director Guy Bee hit all the right cues by giving Dean a reality check when everything he says and does do not make sense to the people he's intereacting with.

Females haven't fared so well on "Supernatural" since the very beginning, when Sam and Dean's mother met her untimely demise thanks to the yellow-eyed demon, but none has been more beloved than Mary Winchester, who makes a reappearance (sort of) in this week's Episode 19, entitled "Mommy Dearest". Samantha Smith is back as Mary Winchester on Supernatural. Of all the characters on Supernatural, you have to admit that Mary is one of the strongest if not most key characters on the show. Who can ever forget that scene in the series premiere when Azazel (Fredric Lehne), The Yellow-Eyed Demon, visited the Winchester brothers as children.
Needless to say, the return of Mary does not bode well for Sam (Jared Padalecki) or Dean (Jensen Ackles). Here is a new group of stills provided by CW Network. It looks like we’ll see the entire quartet of Supernatural hunters convene for this family reunion.

"Supernatural" may be gone (yes, it's on hiatus again!) until April 15th, but that doesn't mean it's forgotten. To help fill the time, we have video of the full "Supernatural" panel at Paleyfest 2011 along with a few pretty cool details from the upcoming Episode 17, "My Heart Will Go On", which sees the return of two beloved female characters.
Below you'll find the two-part video from the Paleyfest panel (read more about that here), which features Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, Misha Collins, Jim Beaver, writers Ben Edlund and Sera Gamble, and creator Eric Kripke.
