Barack and Michelle Obama may no longer be in the White House, but their work is far from done.
While speaking at the Partnership for a Healthier America Summit on Friday, the former first lady vowed that she and her husband would continue championing the causes they fought for in office, including her own signature issues of nutrition and health.
“We’re not gone, we’re just breathing, y’all. Let us breathe,” she joked during her conversation with Sam Kass, President Obama’s former White House chef and senior food policy advisor. “We’ve got to get our new lives set up.

She’s a little late to the party, but Rachael Ray is finally on the selfie bandwagon in a really big way.
The beloved daytime television star snapped a photo with First Lady Michelle Obama while filming a segment for the Let’s Move campaign.
Along with the picture, Rachel included the caption, "My 1st #selfie! Excited to be joined by @Flotus & @letsmove's Sam Kass @ the White House."
And given Ellen DeGeneres’ celebrity-rich selfie at the Oscars over the weekend, it seems talk show hosts are really stepping up their social media presence.

President Barack Obama's Martha's Vineyard vacation involved some golfing with Larry David. Both men were seen enjoying a round of golf at Farm Neck Golf Club in Oak Bluffs.
Obama played a game with aide Marvin Nicholson, investor Robert Wolf and chef Sam Kass, during which he struck this awesome pose. Enjoying a game behind him was David, filmmaker Peter Farrelly, designer Kenneth Cole and restaurateur Patrick Lyons, The Boston Globe reports. The games took an approximate five hours to complete.
During his family vacation, Obama was also seen enjoying a family bike ride with wife Michelle Obama and daughters Sasha and Malia.

A family bike ride and a round of golf - the first family is keeping it simple during their visit to Martha's Vineyard. President Barack Obama is enjoying some time off with his wife and daughters, however yesterday he took a brief time out from his vacation to address the Egypt crisis following a violent clash in Cairo. You could guess Barack and Michelle were looking forward to their weeklong vacation, as they walked hand in hand to Marine One last Saturday. Sporting big smiles, the first couple took off from the White House in the helicopter for a stopover in Orlando, Fl, where they spoke at the Disabled American Veterans National Convention. Next stop was Martha's Vineyard in Massachusetts, where the Obamas are currently vacationing. As they headed to Martha's Vineyard Saturday on Air Force One, Obama switched his suit for dad-approved khakis, and Michelle swapped heels for flats,...

Sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words. In the case of President Barack Obama's recent golf excursion during his vacation on Martha's Vineyard, one picture reveals that his putting game wasn't going as well as he would have liked. While golfing at the Farm Neck Golf Club, Obama was caught in the act trying to coax his ball in the right direction as it veered toward the left.
Photographers and journalists aren't typically allowed to join Obama while he plays games of golf, but this case was an exception. Maybe it was his smooth poses that the White House was trying to hide in past situations, though we're glad the world can now see the president in all his golfing glory.
Obama was out golfing with aide Marvin Nicholson, investor Robert Wolf and chef Sam Kass. The foursome left the golf course after five hours.

A hip hop album by Michelle Obama? Yet another example of the expanding influence and impact of the music.
Just a few weeks ago, Nas was honored with a hip hop fellowship in his name at Harvard University. Teachers are using hip hop in their classrooms to get students interested in math and science, and now the first lady, Michelle Obama is utilizing hip hop as a platform to educate and influence young people.

Where else but at a Fast Company event can White House assistant chef and food policy advisor Sam Kass trade beer tips with Sam Calagione, the founder of Dogfish Head Craft Brewery?
The two Sams, Nos. 11 and 46 on our Most Creative People in Business list, respectively, put their heads together last week at Fast Company's Most Creative People conference, where Calagione praised the White House's home brewing and cooking initiatives. (Kass has been brewing beer at the White House from locally sourced honey.)
"We just tasted the honey porter yesterday, which was unbelievably good, if I do say so myself," Kass said. "We have no idea what we're doing--we're just experimenting, so anytime you want to come for a visit and give us some pointers, we'd be more than happy."
"What herbs and spices are you and Michelle [Obama] growing in the garden?" Calagione asked Kass.
"Only legal ones," said Kass,...

Secret mall trips. Dining out incognito. Michelle Obama has constructed a life inside the bubble-and has her own sense of her 2012 role, Lois Romano reports in this week's Newsweek.
The most recognizable woman in the world routinely ducks reporters to have what she calls a "normal" life. Hiding beneath a baseball cap, the first lady of the United States has picked through sale racks in the frenetic Tysons Corner, Va., mall with girlfriends, bought supplies for her dog at Petco using her own credit card, and dined at some of D.C.'s hippest eateries largely unrecognized. So secretive are her outings that when Washington Capitals hockey superstar Alex Ovechkin tweeted a photo in April with his arm around her at a busy Washington restaurant, media organizations were convinced it was a fake.

(S07E02) The first Washington, D.C. celebrity appeared last night. No, it wasn't Assistant White House Chef Sam Kass, but those cute middle schoolers who got to hug Padma Lakshmi endlessly. Jealous.
Oh right, back to the 'Top Chef' recap. Sam Kass was the guest judge of the evening. Things started out with a bang as the contestants were paired off and had to cook together, each person using one arm, under one apron. Their task? Sandwiches.

There’s a place called Washington, D.C. where there are fat cats, along with bulls and bears, and people saying things like “senate majority” and “sexual relations.” In this land, things are blue and red, and there are a lot of white buildings, where famous stuff happened.
Oh? What’s that? You’ve heard of this place? It’s where who lives?
Well, I’m with you, but apparently the Bravo producers are not because they want you to know that their new home turf is all politics and bad puns like “bipartisandwich,” which elicited a collective groan in the Top Chef kitchen.
