Watch out B-movies, your time being untouched is up. Ever since this summer's semi-suprise success with "Piranha 3D," you bet they're going to be looking at other properties of that sort to milk to high heaven. Next on the slab is "The Swarm," an Irwin Allen disaster movie dished out in 1978 starring none other than Michael Caine. With a title like "The Swarm," you are correct in thinking that it centers on a bunch of killer bees who are basically pissed the hell off. Michael Caine stars as an entomologist who learns that killer bees from South America have been coming together to form huge swarms. He sets out to stop the military from attacking and worsening the imbalance in nature, ultimately teaming up with them to prevent the deadly swarm from reaching Houston. Yuck, if that's the case then I'll be squirming in my seat the whole time hoping...

If you're not old enough to remember the 70s disaster movie vogue, you might automatically assume that a movie starring Michael Caine, Henry Fonda, Patty Duke, Fred MacMurray and Olivia de Havilland would be an instant classic. And yet, somehow, the movie with that astonishing lineup is The Swarm, an Irwin Allen effort about a group of killer bees traveling up from South America to destroy--for some reason-- Houston, Texas. The movie is so bad that Michael Caine has apparently disowned it, but since everything is new again, it's apparently time for The Swarm to make a comeback. Hey, if Piranha 3D can do it, anything is possible. According to The Wrap, producers Roy Lee and Steven Schneider are putting together a remake of the film, with commercials veteran Ash Bolland set to direct. A writer will be hired in the next month, though it's not clear if he'll be...

Horror Producers Roy Lee and Steven Schneider are planning a remake of The Swarm , reports TheWrap . The original 1978 film was based on a 1975 novel of the same name by Arthur Herzog. Directed by Irwin Allen, the storyline involved a massive swarm of killer bees that invade a Texas town. Though it featured an impressive cast that included Michael Caine, Slim Pickins, Olivia de Havilland and Henry Fonda (among others), the original film was a critical and financial failure that soon found life primarily as a cult horror film. Ash Bolland, whose career so far has focused on commercials, is slated to direct, though no writer is currently attached. TheWrap notes that it is unclear whether the script will focus on the Allen film version or if it will return to the more critically...

Matt Greenberg, who co-wrote the Stephen King adaptation 1408 , is is taking an updated version of King's "Pet Sematary." Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Steven Schneider are producing the film at Paramount. The following is how the 1983 book is described: The road in front of Dr. Louis Creed's rural Maine home frequently claims the lives of neighborhood pets. Louis has recently moved from Chicago to Ludlow with his wife Rachel, their children and pet cat. Near their house, local children have created a cemetery for the dogs and cats killed by the steady stream of transports on the busy highway. Deeper in the woods lies another graveyard, an ancient Indian burial ground whose sinister properties Louis discovers when the family cat is killed. Paramount brought the...

After success with "1408", scribe Matthew Greenberg is adapting another Stephen King property, the "Pet Sematary" remake at Paramount Pictures says The Hollywood Reporter.
This long-gestating new adaptation of King's 1983 novel follows a family who move to a small Maine town along a highway often used by high-speed trucks. Nearby lies a pet cemetery and further beyond that an ancient indian burial ground which can resurrect the dead, but those who come back aren't quite right. When the toddler son is killed in an auto accident, the grieving father uses that power - but at the cost of several lives and his own sanity.
Paramount previously adapted the book in 1989 starring Dale Midkiff, Denise Crosby and Fred Gwynne. George Clooney at one time was apparently circling this remake.
