Exclusive: Avi Federgreen’s Indiecan Entertainment is launching a genre-focused distribution arm, hot on the heels of releasing Junta Yamaguchi’s time paradox comedy Beyond the Infinite Two Minutes.
Red Water Entertainment will serve as a home for genre cinema from around the world, focused on bringing North American audiences high-quality cinema with no language or regional barriers.
It will work primarily in the horror, science fiction and action genres, but will release films from the vast spectrum that the term ‘genre’ encompasses. “There’s a lot of wonderful genre cinema that never sees the light of day in North America, and I’m excited to help some of these films find the audiences they deserve,” said Federgreen.

Alessandro Cassigoli and Casey Kauffman’s drama is the only Italian title selected for the Venice sidebar.
Italian sales agent Fandango Sales has boarded Alessandro Cassigoli and Casey Kauffman’s Californie, the only Italian title selected for Venice sidebar Giornate degli Autori this year.
The film straddles documentary and fiction and follows Jamila, a Moroccan girl with street smarts, from ages nine to 14, as she grows up in a small Italian town.
Ang Film and La Mansarde Cinéma are producing with Rai Cinema, while Fandango is also distributing the film in Italy.

The hybrid festival will showcase 11 world premieres.
Seán Breathnach’s Irish-language drama Foscadh, Ross Killeen’s music documentary Love Yourself Today and Graham Cantwell’s coming-of-age drama Who We Love are among several new Irish films making their world premiere at the hybrid Galway Film Fleadh which is running from July 20th to 25th.
The Fleadh will showcase 45 features, 11 of which are world premieres. The main physical venue will be an outdoor cinema in the city’s historic centre this year and many of the titles will also screen online along with the programme of industry events and filmmaker discussions.

Sky Italia is backing its first English-language movie, an innovative Ireland-set chiller working-titled “Shadows,” starring Saskia Reeves (“Luther”) and young British talents Mia Threapleton (“A Little Chaos”) and Lola Petticrew (“A Bump Along the Way”).

Venice Days, the independently run strand of Venice Film Festival, has revealed its winners for 2015, with Michael Rowe’s Early Winter taking the top prize, the Venice Days Award, which comes with a $22,500 (€20,000) prize.

Venice Days (Sept 2-12) has rounded out its programme with Julie Delpy’s Lolo, bringing the number of titles in competition at the independently run section of the Venice Film Festival to 11.
The world premiere of the film, which will go on to screen at Toronto, has been secured by Venice Days following an agreement with international distributor Wild Bunch.
Delpy, star of Richard Linklater’s Before… trilogy, has written and directed Lolo and will co-star alongside Dany Boon, Vincent Lacoste and Karin Viard.
The satirical comedy centres on fortysomething workaholic Violette (Delpy), who finds romance while on a spa vacation. But once back home, the pair have to deal with Lolo, Violette’s brainy, tyrannical son, who has no intention of relinquishing his own control over the family, and the emotions of his mother.
