Alain Resnais was born on June 3, 1922 in Vannes, Morbihan, France as Alain Pierre Marie Jean Georges Resnais. He was a director and editor, known for Hiroshima Mon Amour (1959), Last Year at Marienbad (1961) and Night and Fog (1955). He was married to Sabine Azéma and Florence Malraux. He thought that his interest in flashbacks, and what he would dub "flashforwards", may have been inspired by his childhood love of Milton Caniff's long-running action cartoon "Terry and the Pirates.".
