Chicago – Sequels are the bane of film’s existence. They tend to end with unresolved plotlines in an attempt to promote the need for another film. Disappointing film franchises have been built this way, but Danny Boyle is the last person I would have expected this from. “T2 Trainspotting” is the sequel to “Trainspotting” that we never wanted but are surprisingly happy to have.
Rating: 3.5/5.0
“Trainspotting” didn’t end the conventional way by resolving every conflict, but instead ended with the limitless potential of a new beginning. Danny Boyle has never been a slave to conventions so this comes as no surprise, but the way he ended the first film left it completely open-ended and up to the imagination of the viewer. There is a purity to that approach that forces the audience to take everything they have experienced and learned during the film and use it to create their own ending.

Something happened at my midnight public screening in London of Danny Boyle’s sequel to his 1996 smash. A heckler at the back, perhaps influenced by alcohol or the fact that he had been ground down by the film’s incessant flashbacks and reminiscence, aimed at the screen and shouted “nostalgic shite.” And that half-sums up T2: Trainspotting, a movie whose advent looks only to have been beckoned by fans’ longing to see the original film’s gang back together. Still, I mean half when I say it, and Boyle’s verve as a director means there’s still plenty of vibrant imagery, alongside a script that, although lacking any of the electricity of the original’s state-of-the-nation wisecracks (“Scotland is a nation colonized by wankers”), is funny and disarmingly melancholic.

"Social Network" and "Now You See Me" star Jesse Eisenberg is set to pen and make his directorial debut on the bittersweet comedy TV series "Bream Gives Me Hiccups" for Jax Media.
Based on his collection of stories of the same name, the story follows a quietly observant child, Oscar (newcomer Elliott Smith), as he copes with the dramatics of his recently divorced mother (Parker Posey). He spends his lunches in the janitor's (Victor Rasuk) closet at school writing thoughtful reviews of each restaurant his mom dragged him to the night before.
He treats the reviews as a diary, documenting his complex relationship with his mother as they both 'grow up' in the wake of a divorce. Eisenberg, Tony Hernandez, Lilly Burns, John Hodges and Ravi Nandan will executive produce and filming begins in New York City this May.

Lord Sir Danny Of Boyle, as we must call him following his Olympics triumph, is returning to his core job of making films with Trance, a psychological thriller starring James McAvoy, Rosario Dawson and Vincent Cassel. We've already seen the trailer; here's an exclusive new poster for the film. The official synopsis tells us that this film is about "a fine art auctioneer, mixed up with a criminal gang, who join forces with a hypnotherapist to recover a lost painting." Watching the trailer below, it would appear that McAvoy is the auctioneer, Dawson the hypnotherapist and Cassel the leader of the criminal gang. Then again, it would also appear from the trailer that it's not nearly as simple as that synopsis would have us believe, and in fact we suspect it might be one of those summaries that verges on actively misleading. However that's pure speculation for now.Trance is...

Longtime publicist Nicolette Aizenberg has taken on the meaty job of steering publicity for newly formed distributor A24. The New York-based former 42 West senior exec already has A24’s first two films, the recent acquisitions “Ginger & Rosa” and “A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III,” on the runway in need of attention. As head of publicity, Aizenberg has several challenges right out of the gate. Sally Potter’s “Ginger and Rosa” has emerged from its Telluride and Toronto film festival premieres with strong critical response and awards whispers pushing Elle Fanning’s lead performance. With A24 principals David Fenkel, Daniel Katz and John Hodges already committing to an Oscar-qualifying run in December for the coming-of-age drama, Aizenberg has very little time to get an awards campaign running. That the film is the company’s first release carries its own pressures, but Aizenberg was already handling...

She is an innovator with a comprehensive understanding of how to best navigate the film publicity realm, and also all aspects of film distribution. Additionally, she has a deep appreciation of the changing world, and the need to use traditional and creative methods to achieve the goal of each film.

"We fell in love with 'Ginger & Rosa,'" said the A24 team of Daniel Katz, John Hodges and David Fenkel. "We’ve been fans of Sally's for a long time. With the Toronto International Film Festival just a few weeks away, a new distribution player has entered the field. New York-based A24, the creation of David Fenkel, Daniel Katz and John Hodges, will both acquire films and produce its own, with the goal of releasing eight to ten films annually. “We see an exciting opportunity right now for movies in the domestic space especially given all the new ways to target moviegoers and the changes that are happening in the marketplace,” said the three principals. “We are looking forward to working with great storytellers to bring their films to audiences.” Fenkel launched Oscilloscope Laboratories in 2008 with the late Adam Yauch, and as president he focused the company’s resources on truly independent fare, such as “We Need to Talk About Kevin,” “Wendy & Lucy” and “The Messenger.” While this experience puts the new enterprise in a good position to...

Cool, coordinated, just a little loud; this is the timeless appeal of Jack Carter’s 3 piece suit. In portraying cinema’s ultimate anti-hero, Michael Caine wears his costume like a second skin.
Get Carter was shot mainly on location in Newcastle for just £750,000. By no means a tremendous success on its release (in the U.S. Get Carter was a double feature with a Frank Sinatra movie), it has since acquired cult status and is now widely recognised as one of the greatest British films ever made. Much has been written about the ‘style’ of Carter; photo shoots of models in trench coats carrying shotguns, etc, yet there has been little appreciation for the fine detail of its central costume itself, a dark blue mohair suit, and what it says about the man who wears it so triumphantly.
Director of Get Carter, John Hodges, admits he personally paid little attention to costume.
