“I guess you guys aren’t ready for that yet,” so says Marty McFly—he of the far-off future of the 1980s—after performing a raucous, Chuck-Berry-presaging guitar solo in front of crowd of Bobby sox era teens in 1955, “But your kids are gonna love it.”
Star Michael J. The constant refrain in Hollywood is that we need diversity, particularly when it comes to writers. Unfortunately, this is almost always quickly followed by shrugs of frustration that no one knows where to find unique voices because there are only so many options in the WGA. And therein lies the problem: showrunners, agents and other influential figures often realize that they need to find fresh voices from outside Hollywood, but they aren’t sure where to find them.

Last weekend, comedian/former writer for Happy Endings and Brooklyn Nine-Nine Gil Ozeri watched every single episode of Entourage in a row without sleeping. This is his story. Shhh!! Do you hear that? That’s the sound of me crossing another incredibly stupid item off my bucket list. This past weekend, in an act of horrifying absurdity, I decided to watch every single episode of HBO’s Entourage in a row, without a break. 96 episodes. No sleep. Just me, Vinnie, and the boys, keeping each other company for 47 hours straight. Oh, yeaaah!!! Why would I ever do something that wonderfully dumb? Well, to tell you the truth, I had done one of these binge-marathons before with Two and Half Men, and it turns out, it was actually super fun. And since the Entourage movie had just come out, it seemed liked the universe was almost begging me to do it again.

So, this weekend, with the Entourage movie coming out, Ozeri, who co-wrote the legendary "Every Week on Entourage Sketch" and previously wrote for Happy Endings and Brooklyn Nine-Nine, is going to watch every episode of Entourage. In a house in the Hollywood Hills, Ozeri, along with Adam Pally and John Gemberling, will be hosting over 50 comedians for a weekend of watching over 50 hours of Drama (the character, that is — the show featured zero actually dramatic moments), Ari, E, Vince, and, of course, Turtle. 2013 was an absolutely amazing year for television, with shows like Breaking Bad and Spartacus going out with some of their best episodes yet and new series like Hannibal and Orphan Black bursting onto the scene. While the jury’s still out on how this year will compare to last, at the halfway point, 2014 is shaping up to be pretty darn great year as well. Continuing favorites have come back stronger than ever and just like last year, a few new series have quickly made strong names for themselves as well; the variety of truly great television, from comedy to drama to the many series that don’t so easily fit either description, has never been so pronounced.
However, with so much TV out there, some of the best episodes (and series in general) of the year have flown under the radar, so a handful of Sound on Sight’s podcasters...

Happy Endings creator David Caspe is finding more joy in pilot season.
He has received his third pilot order, this time from Comedy Central, which has signed up for Duty, a single-camera cop comedy to be executive produced by Caspe and written by ex-Happy Endings scribes Matthew Libman and Daniel Libman. There will be a Happy connection onscreen, too: The show follows a former football stud named Kyle (Ugly Americans’ Mike O’Gorman) who returns to his hometown after hitting hard times and joins the police force opposite his childhood best friend, Lonnie (Brooklyn Nine-Nine scribe Gil Ozeri, who...

After a lengthy deal-making process, Comedy Central has formally given the green light to Duty, a half-hour pilot from a group of Happy Endings auspices — creator/executive producer David Caspe, writers Matthew and Daniel Libman, executive producer Jamie Tarses and studio Sony Pictures Television. Written/co-executive produced by brothers Matthew and Daniel Libman, Duty centers around Kyle (Mike O’Gorman), a former football star who loses everything and is forced to start anew by moving back to his hometown and taking a job on the local police force opposite his childhood best friend Lonnie (Gil Ozeri). Laura Steinel plays Jamie, Kyle’s old flame. Tarses of Fanfare and Caspe of Shark v. Bear executive produce. Caspe and Matthew have been childhood friends since elementary school, with Daniel, who is eight years younger than his brother, constantly hanging out with the older guys. Daniel went on to become his brother’s writing partner.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Season 1, Episode 4, “M.E. Time”
Directed by Troy Miller
Written by Gil Ozeri
Airs Tuesdays at 8:30pm Est on Fox
The Tuesday night comedies are generally a lot more entertaining this week as two It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia stars make appearances on other shows. Brooklyn Nine-Nine is shaping up to be one of the better fall comedies this year as it’s beginning to tone down the silliness and really find its stride. Jake’s ability to completely wind up Amy is a strong part of his character and one of the most entertaining parts of the show – the opening pre-titles scene this week is great. The show is starting to follow an extremely similar format to another of Fox’s shows, New Girl. With hilarious scenes before the opening credits and great flashbacks and cutaways, Brooklyn Nine-Nine is making up for the weak episodes...

Happy Endings, Season 3, Episode 12: “The Marry Prankster”
Written by Jackie Clarke and Gil Ozeri
Directed by Rebecca Asher
Airs Tuesdays at 9pm and 9:30pm Et on ABC
The group plots a prank on Max to get back at him for all the pranks that he pulled on them. Winning the lottery, after a hysterical outburst from Max (which puts the definition of being a gloating winner to a tee) they inform Max that he actually did not. What seemed like a good idea obviously was not. Max informs them that they he will be avenged. And that’s exactly what we find throughout the rest of the episode, with a few other story arcs between Brad and Jane, as well as Penny and Pete (Yay for Pete making it so far!)
The Brad/Jane arc while containing a few laughs actually had more of a sentimental feel to it.

Happy Endings, Season 3, Episode 10: “Kickball 2: The Kickening”
Written by Beth McCarthy-Miller
Directed by Jackie Clarke & Gil Ozeri
Airs Sundays at 10pm (Et) and Tuesdays at 9pm (Et) on ABC
Who wants to play kickball?! That’s the main and pretty much only focus on Sunday’s episode of Happy Endings. The episode (which was originally supposed to air in season two, btw) brings not only the kickball tournament, but tons of hilarity from the entire cast.
The episode kicks off (no pun intended) with Alex informing the group that she’s signed them up for a kickball tournament. The group will be representing her store, Xela (which is pronounced Shay-la, apparently something the group didn’t even know). After much pressure the group finally agrees to help Alex. Later on though, we find that Jane wants to be on a winning team and she’s already signed up for another company’s team.
