As many mind be thinking, with LOST on its last leg, Flashforward is probably meant to be the new high-concept show with the sci-fi ring to it. Sure enough, this is a mind bender with what will appear to be a long couple of seasons ahead of it. It is certainly a good concept. What would happen if most of the entire world's population found out their future six months from now? From this singular question, you can explore the millions of facets that come with it. And Flashforward does good job doing such. It contains all the many requisite aspects needed for a show of the like, the heart breaking stories of people dying and lives falling apart, the uplifting tales of people finding hope and a reason to live, and the mysterious random happenings that we all know will eventually lead somewhere. Yet, it still remains endearing, and the central question is nonetheless fascinating.
I'm quite happy to see an A-list actor leading the cast, with strong support from the rest of the cast. So far, the performances are strong and likable, even in the darkest of moments. And this is a very thankful thing. One has to wonder, at this point, whether high concept shows like this can hold up for such a long period of time. LOST wained past season 2, and Heroes dropped the ball by season 3. So, the question is, can Flashforward hold up for several seasons. The main problem is that the show has presented an end point, a six month time period in which the show can really play out it's concept. Certainly, there are ways to continue on, possibly, but I wonder if we'll still be invested by then.
For now, the concept holds and the mystery is great fun. with strong performances and writing, I foresee, like many characters on the show, a positive future to come.
