Two Bunch Palms Resort & Spa, the Desert Hot Springs property that had a cameo in Robert Altman’s 1992 film The Player, has been sold to Hollywood buyers. Along with real estate investor Gidi Cohen, the 270-acre property was acquired by producers Steve Markoff and Donald Kushner and entrepreneur Elie Samaha — the trio who bought Grauman’s Chinese Theatre last year. According to Coachella Valley real estate sources, the buyers paid less than $10 million for the property, which is said to have been built in the 1920s by Al Capone and served as his West Coast hideout. It was officially announced today by CEO Courtney Solomon that After Dark Films has acquired the rights to showcase Adam Gieraschs Autopsy and Jody Dwyers Aussie horror pic Dying Breed as part of its After Dark Horrorfest series. The Horrorfest lineup is nearly complete with the five previously announced titles being The Broken, The Butterfly Effect 3: Revelation, From Within, Perkins' 14 and Slaughter. Adam Gierasch directed Autopsy, from a script he wrote with Jace Anderson and E.L. Katz. Adam and Jace previously collaborated as writers on the Dario Argento film, Mother of Tears, and are currently in production on Night of the Demons that Adam is directing. Autopsy stars Robert Patrick (Balls of Fury, Terminator 2), Jessica Lowndes (90210) and Jenette Goldstein (Aliens) with Ross McCall (Band of Brothers). Bruce Willis is joining the cast of Alpha Dog, which New Line Cinema will release domestically. Willis will play the father of the main character in the film, which is inspired by real events and tells the story of Johnny Truelove (Emile Hirsch), a young man from Southern California's San Gabriel Valley whose ambition is to follow in his father's footsteps. When one of Johnny's plans goes awry, his father is forced to step in and save his son from a life behind bars. The film also stars Sharon Stone, Justin Timberlake and Dominique Swain. Alpha Dog is being produced by Sidney Kimmel Entertainment in association with A-Mark Entertainment. Chuck Pacheco and Sidney Kimmel are producing, with Marina Grasic executive producing. Butch Kaplan, Scott Nicolaides, Steve Markoff and Robert Geringer also are executive producing.
