FX is stepping into the standup comedy ring, with comedy specials from Kate Berlant and Byron Bowers to premiere exclusively on Hulu on Sept. 15, the network announced.
“Kate Berlant: Cinnamon in the Wind” serves as the comedian’s first live solo standup special. Set in an intimate space, the “A League of Their Own” star takes on not only the audience, but also a mirrored reflection of herself in her absurdist show. As she challenges the crowd’s expectations of her comedy, Berlant analyzes her own need to perform, as well as her connection to the room.
Bo Burnham directed the special, which was filmed in 2019. He’s also attached as an executive producer alongside recent Emmy winner Jerrod Carmichael (“Rothaniel”), Chris Storer (“The Bear”) and Jeff Tomsic. “Kate Berlant: Cinnamon in the Wind” is produced by Rotten Science.

“Ha Comedy Festival: The Art of Comedy” features short sets from comedians Gina Brillon, David del Rosario, Carmen Lynch, Monique Marvez, Pedro Salinas, Jesus Trejo and Mark Viera. The first of four episodes of “America’s Got Talent” dedicated to the judge cuts phase of the competition airs on July 17. Over the course of the previous six audition episode of “Agt,” the four judges — Mel B, Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum and Howie Mandel — said yes to nearly 100 acts. Now they must cut these down to just three dozen who will get a chance to perform on the live shows that start on August 14.
Helping them make these tough decisions on July 17 is actor Ken Jeong. As with the regular panel, he also gets a Golden Buzzer that will send an act straight through to the quarter-finals. We have done a little digging and found out which 20 acts appear on the first episode in this round of the reality competition series.
Of these, only seven will survive and continue on in their quest to be crowned the season 13 winner.

Stephen Colbert has made no secret of his opinions about Donald Trump. The late night host has been a ray of light in an endlessly depressing news cycle, inventing new and myriad ways to roast the president. But Colbert has been quietly staging a more subtle act of rebellion on “The Late Show,” by celebrating people of different races, genders, and orientations with a refreshingly inclusive showcase of stand-up comedians.
Countless stand-up careers have been launched by plum late night appearances, including storied debuts by Joan Rivers, Eddie Murphy, and Ellen Degeneres on Johnny Carson’s “The Tonight Show.” Luckily for emerging comedians everywhere, the current resurgence of late night means the tradition is alive and well, which can be especially helpful for those comedians who might otherwise be a token at a comedy club — namely anyone who is not a straight, white man. No late night show is supporting...
