Oni Press, the Portland-based comics publisher behind such books as Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, is restructuring its screen entertainment division. The company, run by Joe Nozemack and James Lucas Jones, is untethering Closed on Mondays, its previous production arm presided over by Eric Gitter, and creating Oni Entertainment. The new banner will now take over responsibilities for pursuing opportunities in Hollywood and beyond, according to Oni, focusing not just movies and television but digital and gaming as well. "The creator-owned comics industry and its relationship with other media has changed dramatically in the last ten years,"

It’s a science fiction Golden Age in comic books right now, and one of the most unique titles has certainly been Charles Soule and Alberto Jiménez Albuquerque’s Letter 44. Like last year’s fantastic indie film Europa Report, Letter 44 is tied closely enough to the real world—and real science—that it’s not difficult to imagine it happening as a result of politics and experimental space exploration. And it seems that the SyFy channel, while certainly a fan of schlocky monster movies, can also appreciate the gravity of finding new life in space, as publisher Oni Press has recently announced the channel’s upcoming adaptation of Letter 44 for television.
Here’s the press release, including a short plot summary:
Portland, Or (April 30, 2014) – Oni Press is thrilled to announce that Charles Soule and Alberto Jiménez Alburquerque’s hit ongoing series Letter 44 has been picked up for development for television by SyFy!

(Cbr) Oni Press supernatural thriller "Ghost Projekt" is now in development as a potential drama series at NBC, according to Deadline. Deadline has reported that "Ghost Projekt," a limited series published by Oni Press in 2010, has just been snatched up by NBC for development. The news comes just a few months after NBC passed on a pilot produced for Oni Press' runaway hit comic "The Sixth Gun"
The 5-issue series was written by Joe Harris with art by Steve Rolston and Dean Trippe. This makes the second Oni Press-published, Rolston-illustrated series to get Hollywood attention following Fox's interest in "Queen and Country."
"Ghost Projekt" features the unlikely pairing of an American weapons inspector and a Russian Federal Security Service agent teamed up to stop a dangerous group from unleashing powerful ghostly forces found in a decrepit Soviet weapons lab.
Series writer Joe Harris was understandably excited about the announcement, especially with it coming as he preps a second volume of the series.

‘Tis the season for comic book publishers to change their logos, don’t you think? One would certainly believe it is given the frequency at which their coming. In a press released posted earlier today, indie comics publisher Oni Press has unveiled a new company logo that will grace all future issues and will most likely grace their digital content in the future.

Over the next decade-and-a-half, the company beat the odds, producing a consistently successful line of comics and graphic novels while adapting to expanding markets and new technologies. "Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World" hits shelves on DVD and Blu-Ray in November, and Universal has released the full specs for every iteration of Edgar Wright's live-action adaptation of Bryan Lee O'Malley's hit comic book series.
While the movie didn't quite meet expectations at the box office, it was difficult to find anyone who didn't have high praise for Wright's kinetic, effects-driven celebration of everything that made O'Malley's comic so great. And like any good DVD/Blu-Ray release, the movie comes packed with some cool bonus features, too.
Personally, I'm a little intrigued by the deleted scenes and alternate footage, as I managed to sneak into an early workprint of the film and, well... the ending of the unfinished version of the film was quite different from the theater cut I saw.
