Tribhanga (Netflix)
Starring Kajol,Tanvi Azmi,Mithila Palkar,Kunaal Roy Kapur,Vaibhav Tatwawaadi
Written & Directed by Renuka Shahane
Just like life, Tribhanga is somewhat off-kilter, a little askew, at times uneven and even patchy. But the story of three generations of women from one family, spirited, unorthodox, unfettered, holds together, moles, warts and all. Tribhanga is a fiercely original film, though cinephiles would like to see distinct shades of Ingmar Bergman’s imperishable classic Autumn Sonata in Renuka Shahane’s striking debut film. But that, like much in life, is only an illusion.
The film’s scenes are ignited by the presence of Kajol. The fieriest actress on this side of Fearless Nadia and Geeta Bali, Kajol brings to Tribhanga a kind of unrehearsed ferocity that is at once intimidating, intriguing, and irresistible.
Strangely there aren’t that many confrontation scenes between mother Tanve Azmi and daughter Kajol. Maybe Ms.

In art, as in life, consistency is not a quality that is easily obtainable. In the life that is created in Vishal Bhardwaj’s art the characters are so flawed and fractured and so driven down to destruction by their own demoniacal desires that you fear they would collapse under the weight of their own ambitions and longings.
This is true as much of the characters as the director himself. Vishal Bhardwaj’s latest arguably his most ambitious film to date could have ended up being the Bombay Velvet/Mohenjo Daro of 2017. It is rescued, no redeemed, by an excruciatingly exquisite perception of the wounds and lashes that love pelts down on those who are its victims.
Rangoon is a simple tale, unnecessarily complicated by its characters’ prevarications. It is a story pinned down to a bobbing blueprint...

Miss Julia a.k.a Kangana Ranaut is going to become the talk of the town after her bold look of a Hunterwali in the new song ‘Bloody Hell’ from Rangoon. When it comes to creating an equilibrium between boldness and beauty, Kangana knows how to perfectly do her job. ‘Bloody Hell’ is the new release from Vishal Bhardwaj’s much talked about film, Rangoon. Penned by the legend himself, Gulzar and beautifully sung by Sunidhi Chauhan, the song Bloody Hell is going to hit the audiences instantly. The film is not a biopic as it was expected but a love triangle based on a backdrop of war. As far as the trailer goes, the sensuous chemistry of Kangana with Saif Ali Khan in the first half and the intense romance with Shahid on the second half, steals the show. Kangana’s character is speculated to be based on yesteryear...

The most awaited trailer is here. Kangana Ranaut is busy shooting for her upcoming film Rangoon in the city. The actress who has impressed the industry and audience with her dedication and hard work has managed to floor Director Vishal Bhardwaj. While shooting, Kangana would not only deliver a brilliant performance in a single take but the shots were often approved by the director at once. This led the crew of the film, to call her a “one take actor”, a tag that is not common on the sets of a Vishal Bhardwaj film.
A source from the sets revealed, “Kangana excels at her work and for Rangoon, she mostly has been giving excellent shots in just one take, so everyone has started calling her ‘one take actor’. She is also very professional in her acts. For instance, there’s a particular scene, which required her to feed a Japanese prisoner. Since it was a prolonged shot,...

Today sees the release of Soumik Sen’s Gulaab Gang. The first time director brought together a dream team for the highly anticipated film that includes Anubhav Sinha in his producer avatar and then two of India’s finest actresses to play the lead roles. In a radical and cool concept, Gulaab Gang takes the classic hero vs villain and turns it on its head, featuring Madhuri Dixit-Nene as good and Juhi Chawla as evil in a film all about female empowerment.
Synopsis:
Somewhere in the heartland, an ashram of sorts has been set up by ‘Rajjo’ (Madhuri Dixit), where women armed with axes and sickles and dressed in pink mete out evil and seek out justice for one and all, while making hand-ground spices, hand-woven baskets and sarees. But when the party she was campaigning for reveals its true colours, Rajjo knows she has a whole new battle ahead of her,...

Would Sohail Khan finally crack the formula to make a film on the life of Fearless Nadia? The mythical screen queen of stunt films in the 1930s and her adventurous life as an action star was to be filmed by Vishal Bhardwaj who had even zeroed in on a German actress Franka Potente to play the role.
But then the legendary Fearless Nadia's family put its collective feet down. Nothing was heard of the project thereafter.
Now Sohail Khan has been offered a chance to make a film on the queen of stunts.
Sohail says he would tackle the bio-pic only if and when his producers get Nadia's family's approval. "I'll take up this project only if all the necessary permissions and approvals are obtained. There is no point in doing a film on a real-life figure unless the family is with you."

It's finally happening for Angela Jonsson. After a nearly 2-year wait, her celluloid debut is happening. Salman Khan has not only given his final nod to Angela as his leading lady in his prestigious home production Sher Khan, director Sohail Khan has dropped the second leading lady's part, so that the focus of attention would be completely on the lissome Ms Jonsson . Says a source close to the project, "There were two leading ladies in the script. But now the second girl's role has been scrapped, so that Angela gets full attention." Angela would also be required to train in some serious martial arts since her part in Sher Khan is being described as a "combination of Lara Croft and Fearless Nadia". Several elaborate action scenes are planned for the leading lady. She would be trained by a slew of international stunt-men. All this pampering for the debutante comes with a price.

A black belt in martial arts, Neetu Chandra is done with the veil. Lately seen immersed in efforts to fit into the image of the good domesticated future wife to actor Randeep Hooda, Neetu had consciously discarded her bindaas bold and provocative image for the sake of love, commitment and impending matrimony.
But now we hear the relationship has for all practical purposes reached a dead end. With Hooda's career on a sudden if not a steep upturn, we hear Neetu is tired of fitting into the good girlfriend ideal wife-material slot.
While the industry was talking of a wedding date, Neetu we hear has other plans. She is ready to strike back on screen, this time in a desiavatar of Uma Thurman's kickass role in Kill Bill. The stunts would be on a par with what our Bollywood he-men do in action scenes.

The script has changed in Bollywood in the last 60 years - the women are more worldly, the men more macho and the cinema itself more techno-savvy, almost as good as Hollywood, says veteran cinema writer and critic Bhaichand Patel..The women in Hindi cinema are more assertive though no less beautiful (than yesteryear ones), they often smoke on screen and they are equal to men. Mainstream cinema has been a good trend-setter for equality of gender - it is happening now,. Patel told us..The hero, however, has not changed as much as women though they - the crop represented by Salman Khan, Ajay Devgn and Amitabh Bachchan - are a little more physical and action-oriented than the early superstars like Dilip Kumar and Raj Kumar..A former Un official, Patel studied filmmaking at New York University. His new book, Bollywood.s Top 20: Superstars of Indian Cinema launched Monday,...

Who is the Sexiest Bollywood star of all time, you may ask... well according to Eastern Eye that would be Zeenat Aman! The 70’s icon was number one on the 50 Sexiest Bollywood Stars of All Time list put together by the UK publication. Usually countdowns of this type are for a certain year, and follow certain trends or styles, but this list is interesting because they looked at stars of all eras and ranked them solely on who they deemed sexiest.
At number two was another icon of the Hindi film industry Madhubala and rounding out the top 3 was the ever handsome Dharmendra. Other golden age stars include: Shammi Kapoor (5), Parveen Babi (6), silent screen star Sulochana (19), Rekha (20), Feroz Khan (25) and 1930s action woman Fearless Nadia (34).

Many felt the title of Vishal Bharadwaj's latest hit "Kaminey" was odd. But lyricist Gulzar says that far from being abusive, it is a term of endearment. In fact, his old associate and friend Om Puri actually comes to Gulzar's home, has his favourite snacks and waits to hear the favourite 'k' word."The last time he visited Om said, 'Abhi tak aapne mujhe ek baar kamina nahin kaha'. It's like a little affectionate pat planted on the shoulder like a mock slap to let the other person know you care," Gulzar, who has penned the lyrics of "Kaminey" songs, told Ians."Far from being a negative term 'kaminey' is actually a term of endearment... unless added to 'kuttey' (dog). It's only 'kuttey kaminey' that's used angrily and negatively. When a friend doesn't visit us when he's in town, we call him 'kamina'.

Smita Gondkar is the actress she hopes you will never recognise by name but only by deed. Bollywood's most important female stunt actor, her derring-do list of achievements would make Fearless Nadia feel proud. "Why would anyone not notice my skills first?" she asks. It's a fair question from a woman who has ridden a motorcycle off a ramp, over a boat and into the Arabian Sea - as well as having fallen forty floors from a multistory building.
A Us-returnee, Smita has also led in movies herself, including The Awakening, a movie about the rootlessness of the Sindh community uprooted from Pakistan and the efforts of a Sindh Nri to find herself. "I can understand this search for Indianness very well because I have worked abroad myself," she says, "The urge to know my country better eventually brought me back. Fearless Nadia must be proud, that her successors after a long time are discovering the forte of action to make themselves distinct in the crowd and have no two thought of jumping into the fire or climbing up a cliff to be on par with their male brethren. Chandni Chowk To China has emphasized this fact in an underlining manner and the preparation that Deepika Padukone did for her role is reflected in a distinct manner on the screen....
