Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of TV critics two questions and publishes the results on Tuesday. (The answer to the second, “What is the best show currently on TV?” can be found at the end of this post.)
This week’s question: If you could give one canceled show one extra season (if only to wrap things up in a better way), which would it be?
Daniel Fienberg (@TheFienPrint), The Hollywood Reporter
It wasn’t that we were watching “Hannibal” just to see Bryan Fuller and company get to the events of “Silence of the Lambs,” but that was sure a fun thing looming on the horizon. The “Manhunter”/”Red Dragon” arc was probably the show’s most conventional, but it was all the more intriguing for that odd disconnect, of a frequently told story going through the mind of one of TV’s most original storytellers and...

Five years ago tonight, FX gave us "Terriers," a wonderful show with a terrible name and and a frustrating difficulty at breaking through the clutter even in the years before we hit Peak TV in America: there was no real way to sell it except to tell people they had to watch it. Every aspect of the show sounded done to death: detective show, buddy show, one's a recovering alcoholic, one's a reformed thief, they don't get no respect, blah blah blah blah blah. None of the ideas were special, but the execution was, particularly in the chemistry between those two buddies, played by Donal Logue and Michael Raymond-James. And even that worked in such a sly, low-key way that even if FX had done nothing but run promos of the two of them bantering, it wouldn't have entirely come across. No, you had to watch it to get it,...

Castle delivers a strong episode which would have been even better had it trusted its fans to get its sci-fi references on their own...

7.16 The Wrong Stuff
One of the things some of the commenters on past reviews have pointed out, you almost always know, much like a Scooby Doo mystery, whodunit on Castle because Castle rarely varies: it’s the first suspect we meet—the one who inevitably is rejected because he or she has an alibi. This week’s episode, The Wrong Stuff, may just be the right stuff because it sticks to this formula but plays with it in such a way to truly surprise.
What is no surprise, from the very beginning of the episode, is that this is going to be a lot of fun. The Wrong Stuff opens with a Martian murder, followed quickly by a scene in which two...

I love Warehouse 13. It’s clever, it’s fun, it’s steampunky, it’s got tons of awesome historical references, and it’s full of great characters and relationships. Sadly, it’s now coming into its last, and shortened, six-episode season – but that’s not slowing the cast and crew down one bit! I got to talk with some of them at Sdcc, and they shared both some retrospective thoughts on past seasons, and a bit of what we can expect to see in the final season! So read on for details!
Aaron Ashmore (actor, Steve Jinks)
Hi Aaron! Tell us what you can about the new season.
We’ve got a great way to wrap it up; and if you have been watching Season 4, Paracelsus has taken over the Warehouse, so we obviously have to deal with that. There’s also an issue with Claudia and her having a sister,...

ComicCon offers all kinds of experiences for attendees. You can stay completely in the world of film or immerse yourself in comics or even spend the weekend exploring tutorials and self-help panels. This year, due to a number of factors and in a pleasant surprise, my Con ended up being very music-heavy. I had the opportunity to talk with several film and television composers about their work, their process, and what being a composer in this industry means.
Versatility is essential for a career in film and television composition, given the range of projects out there. One composer I spoke with, iZLER, is currently working on Revenge and Shameless. Another, Chris Tilton, recently finished composing the music for the revamp of The Sims (mostly orchestral) and is currently at work on the new fall series Almost Human (mostly electronic). Not only do composers need the flexibility to seamlessly transition from...

Comic Con hasn’t been strictly superheroes in a long, long time. We have scoured the schedule for this year’s event and have pulled out the dark, the bloody, the monstrous, and the ghostly panels that look to be right up FEARnet readers’s alley.
Paranormal Passion Panel
Authors discuss the inclusion of romantic elements in their action-packed novels. Protagonists must battle the forces of evil while trying to keep the world (and often their lovers) safe from destruction. Maryelizabeth Hart of Mysterious Galaxy leads a discussion with Comic-Con special guest Christine Feehan (The Dark Series), Claudia Gray (Spellcaster), Aprilynne Pike (Earthbound), Lauren Kate (The Fallen Novels), Kendare Blake (Antigoddess), and Magnus Flyte (City of Dark Magic).

With Sdcc 2013 kicking off soon, Preview Night details and the full schedule for Day 1 have arrived. We have some tough decisions to make as The Walking Dead comics take on "The X-Files" reunion and then the "Dexter," "Hannibal," and "Teen Wolf" panels go head-to-head.
Per usual, the abovementioned choices are just the tip of the iceberg for genre fans with panels running all day and evening on July 18th for paranormal novels, sexy steampunkers, horror gaming, horror novels, horror comics, horror journalists (including our own Heather Wixson!), composers, the ever present and popular zombies, The Goon feature film, and - in the last panel of the night - horror sitcom "Holliston." Check out our picks below, and be sure to visit the official San Diego Comic-Con 2013 website for the full lineup.

Terriers, “Pilot”
Written by Ted Griffin
Directed by Craig Brewer
Aired September 8th, 2010 on FX
Terriers had a quietly unassuming first, and only, season. A Pi series closer tonally to The Big Lebowski than The Big Sleep, this was a show far more interested in examining its characters and building its reality than demanding the world’s attention; perhaps it suffered for that- the show garnered terrible ratings and remains one of the more shockingly overlooked series of the past few years, rather than the television successor to Chinatown it deserved to become.
From its first moments, the Terriers pilot radiates understated, confident cool. We sit with our leads in their truck, getting a feel for their dynamic and not really caring that we have no clue what’s going on. Griffin and Brewer are in no rush to give us answers; this show will be about our leads, not the cases they work,...

There’s some outstanding music on TV right now — the proof lies in EW’s own TV Jukebox. But not all great TV music has words, and for that proof, I ask you to listen below to three instrumental scores that I can’t seem to get out of my head. Nor would I want to.
The music cues below — from Scandal, Once Upon a Time and Castle — were all brought to my attention in the last year or so because they accompanied scenes with three of my favorite TV couples (respectively, Fitz/Olivia, Snow/Charming, and Castle/Beckett) and...

Sunday July 15th is the last day of Comic-Con 2012, and most of us will be completely worn out looking like Spider-Man in the image above. Chances are he's asleep under that mask. Sunday has always been a cool down day for us, we kind of just try to relax a little bit more and enjoy it. That doesn't mean their isn't anything to see or do though!
We've got a Fringe screening and Q&A, Doctor Who, Buffy the Vampire Slayer 20th Anniversary, Sons of Anarchy, the annual Buffy the Vampire Slayer musical screening, and more! I've always wanted to go the Buffy musical sing-a-long, but am usually trying to leave San Diego before it starts.
Just a little reminder, we will be having our annual GeekTyrant meet up this year to meet our readers, which is something we always enjoy doing! That will take place on Wednesday night, and...

Comic-Con Sundays are typically light on horror, and this year is no exception although once again our favorite panel, "Supernatural", is heading to Hall H. Here are the genre highlights as well as info on the 36th annual Robert A. Heinlein Blood Drive.
One thing we can't stress enough is to keep checking the Sdcc website for updates as nothing's set in stone until the event actually starts happening.
10:00-11:00 Emily the Strange— Be a part of the Emily the Strange panel experience, where you have the chance to prove your knowledge of Strange and win prizes, learn what's new in Emily's oddball universe (including a sneak peek at the new Emily and the Strangers comic book series), and Q&A with Emily's creator Rob Reger, artist Buzz Parker, and writer Jessica Gruner. Did we mention you will get some cool stuff just for showing up and being Strange?...

Larry Jordan, occasionally known in more formal circles as Lawrence Jordan, has been making experimental and animation films for half a century now. He grew up in Denver, won a scholarship to Harvard, then dropped out to start a theater back in Colorado with his high school friend, Stan Brakhage. "Stan was always the director," Jordan wrote in a remembrance in the Millennium Film Journal in 2003. "He seemed to have far-reaching radar for locating people and works in the art world. Five of our gang came out to San Francisco in about 1954. (Stan came first — always the avant-garde.) When I arrived, he was living in the basement of poet Robert Duncan and painter Jess Collins. We had one old car, a flatbed trailer for our gear, and about five films between us. So naturally we started out to tour California, showing our wares."

Read our exclusive interview with television and film composer Robert Duncan, who is currently working on the new season of the hit ABC police series ‘Castle,’ for which he was nominated for an Emmy Award for the show’s first season in 2009. Duncan also worked on the music for the new film ‘The Entitled,’ which is now available on Blu-ray and DVD. The composer, who produces all of his music at Hollywood’s legendary Devonshire Studios, discusses with us, among other things, what the process of working on both ‘Castle’ and ‘The Entitled’ is like, and the similarities and differences of working on television and films. Is the new film about Allen Ginsberg and the Howl obscenity trial a little too sane?
Allen Ginsberg, who set out to change the world so that he could fit into it, was admitted to the Columbia Psychiatric Institute, in upper Manhattan, in 1949. He was 23. On his first day there, he met Carl Solomon, two years younger but already bearing a history of mental imbalance. Solomon was well-read, with a special interest in the French symbolist writer Antonin Artaud, who had died in a lunatic asylum the previous year, and who Solomon believed had appointed him his representative in America.
The two psychiatric cases sized each other up. "I'm Prince Myshkin", Ginsberg said, alluding to the gentle anti-hero of Dostoevsky's novel The Idiot. The reference would have escaped most inmates, but Solomon got it. "And I'm Kirilov", he replied (from The Possessed). A friendship had begun, which would be immortalised in a declamatory,...
