In a Gold Derby exclusive, we have learned the category placements of the key Emmy Awards contenders for Universal Television. For this season, the company has many programs for NBC and a few they produce for other networks. They include previous nominees “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” (Andy Samberg), “The Good Place”, “Saturday Night Live,” “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” (Ellie Kemper) and “Will and Grace” plus new contenders “New Amsterdam” (Ryan Eggold) and “Russian Doll” (Natasha Lyonne) as part of their 2019 campaign.
Below, the list of Universal lead, supporting and guest submissions for their comedies and dramas. If you’re looking for “This Is Us,” it is actually produced by Fox21 and will be included on their submission list in the near future. More names might be added by the network on the final Emmy ballot. Also note that performers not included on this list may well be submitted by their personal reps.

Remember when El Rey renewed their Matador TV show for a second season? Well, the cable channel wants to forget that July 2014 announcement. They've now cancelled Matador and that includes their plans for season two.
An action series, Matador revolves a popular and swinging bachelor soccer star (Gabriel Luna) who is recruited by a clandestine spy organization in the United States Government. He's to infiltrate the life of billionaire team owner Andrés Galan (Alfred Molina) who is suspected of using his network of communications satellites for wildly illegal purposes. The rest of the cast includes Nicky Whelan, Neil Hopkins, Jude Ciccolella, Tanc Sade, Peter Gadiot, and Louis Ozawa Changchien.
The first season's 13 episodes concluded last month. According to Deadline, the series wasn't cheap to produce. And, though the first season performed well enough domestically, there wasn't enough interest internationally to proceed with a...

There is a new red-band trailer for Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, and I am not totally sure why it’s a red-band trailer. I guess it’s because Eva Green is naked a few times, but she’s in silhouette, so it’s not like you can actually see any of her bits. And yes, there are several scenes of Jessica Alba stripping, but she is still the most modest stripper in human history, so… I don’t know. If you work at a place that lets you watch atmospheric gangster types hold guns and angst all over the screen while the women around them wear little to nothing, then it might be safe for work?

The trailer below was previously shown at the Hall H panel at the San Diego Comic-Con, Dimension Films has now released the extended Red Band trailer for Frank Miller’s Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.
I have just enough enthusiasm for this movie to get me to go see it; I loved the first one but feel they waited far too long to bring the gang back and from what I’m seeing, they offer little reward for the wait other than the same old. Still, it looks great and should be fun; I wonder though how many people will actually go see it and fear this could be a bomb waiting to happen. I hope I’m wrong.
Watch it below:

The El Rey Network, Robert Rodriguez's brainchild, will be premiering its second original series tonight. The Latin-American network will now have, in addition to Rodriguez's series adaptation of From Dusk Till Dawn, Matador- a sleek spy-sports series. The show will follow special narcotics agent Tony Bravo, as he goes undercover as a soccer player in order to gain access to international crime rings.
"Tony 'Matador' Bravo (Gabriel Luna) is a professional soccer player for the La Riot who comes to be known as much for his antics off the field as his moves on it. But what his fans and family don't realize is that it's all a cover—in truth, he is a skilled covert operative executing missions for the CIA. Agent Bravo, nicknamed “Matador” after he takes out a top player known as 'The Bull' during tryouts for the team, finds himself suddenly thrust into a clandestine world.

Sin City: A Dame to Kill For - can Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez do it again? We're close to finding out, but I'm running out perpetual enthusiasm for hyper-stylized green-screen after 9 years. The original Sin City was the last one that worked for me.
But I'm not going to Not post a Jessica Alba clip.
The film will feature a star-studded cast that also includes Jaime King, Jude Ciccolella, Powers Boothe, Mickey Rourke, Clive Owen, and Bruce Willis as well as series' newcomers Eva Green, Josh Brolin, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Dennis Haysbert, Marton Csokas, Julia Garner,Juno Temple, Ray Liotta, Stacy Keach, Christopher Meloni, Lady Gaga, Jeremy Piven, and Crystal McCahill.

I’m beyond excited for August’s Sin City: A Dame To Kill For, in which Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez return to the seedy locale of their stylized 2006 noir hit. The flick looks completely awesome, with the addition of talented actors like Eva Green and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, along with returning faves like Jessica Alba and Mickey Rourke. One thing that has been a little tricky for the film’s marketing department to nail down, however, is exactly how Sin City: A Dame To Kill For is going to feel.
In the second clip from the movie, we see Alba’s stripper Nancy Callahan seething after the death of her longtime mentor and protector John Hartigan (Bruce Willis). There’s definitely a lot of style going on in the clip, but it feels oddly slight. Perhaps we’ll need to wait until the R-rated version hits screens to see whether the pulpy,...

Finally, this summer will see the arrival of Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, a follow-up to Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller’s 2005 insta-classic film noir Sin City. Genre fans have been patiently biding their time until the sequel’s August release, but it’s hard not to get excited when the marketing department is unveiling posters like this and trailers as crazily awesome as this. Now, the first clip for the movie has landed online.
Though it does suffer from a lack of context, the clip finds Rosario Dawson’s Gail, a slinky femme fatale who led the prostitutes of Old Town in a fight against corrupt police in the first Sin City, living dangerously. She seductively presses herself against the hood of a car, much to the glee of a nameless henchman. It’s only when she baits him enough to be nearby when she opens the trunk,...

Frank Miller has hinted that a third Sin City film could be in the works.
The creator of the titular comic has said that he is beginning to plan another outing for his noir property.
"As a matter of fact, my involvement in Sin City 2 right now is mainly I'm working with [director Robert Rodriguez], I'm sort of ad libbing on the edit, I'm saying 'let's lose this scene, let's keep this shot' but he's such an expert editor he doesn't need that much help," said Miller on a Reddit Ama this week.
"But I am able to help work on the characters a bit more, and make the entire thing feel very Sin City, because it has a very particular tone to it, a very particular intent. I don't talk too much about what Sin City is because it's really my secret.
"Meanwhile, the other thing I'm eager to do and...

The stars of Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez’s Sin City: A Dame to Kill For each have a character poster for you to check out below. It’s one of my most anticipated movies of the decade (it took them that long) so I’m more than happy to post anything that convinces me that this movie is actually finally happening.
Also, you will find below a rather revealing cover of EW with Jessica Alba; in the magazine she talks about returning to the role of stripper Nancy Callahan:
“She was more naive in the first film. Ignorance was bliss, in this one there’s no bliss and no ignorance. I wanted her to transition from being a victim to being someone who’s in control of her own story.”
In regards to the film, she says:
“Sex is absolutely what helps sell this movie, which is fine by me.

Title: Serving Up Richard Director: Henry Olek Starring: Ross McCall, Susan Priver, Jude Ciccolella, Darby Stanchfield A tepid domestic hostage drama with the additional elemental garnish of cannibalism, “Serving Up Richard” tries to blend together pas de deux psychodrama with suspense, dark humor and a side serving of gore. It fails, in yawning fashion. Eschewing the more practical advice of his wife Karen (Darby Stanchfield), new-to-Los-Angeles investment specialist Richard Reubens (Ross McCall) sets out to check in on a classified ad for a vintage Mustang. It turns out the owner, self-described anthropologist Everett Hutchins (Jude Ciccolella), is a cannibal, along with agoraphobic wife Glory (Susan Priver). The Guest Room (aka Serving Up Richard) is quite an odd number from writer/director Henry Olek, and a strangely engaging and interesting one. Going into this film, I had no prior expectations (something I try to go into every film with), and I tried to avoid knowing much about the film. I felt for me this approach worked, as it really just pulled me right in from the get go and I couldn’t look away and I was curious to see where it would go. I really enjoy experiencing films this way, there is a sense of surprise that goes with it and with this film I found a gem. I’ll try not to give much away as I continue with this review.

In the first story, a man is assaulted in Central Park, leading to a mounted police officer intervening and is shot. The horse escapes but is run over by a taxi and is still alive. Flack (Eddie Cahill) says he heard the shot from 6th Ave and it shook the windows of his car. Mac (Gary Sinise) explains it was the echo from the weapon, as if Flack wouldn't know that already. The policeman was shot through the back and through his vest by a sniper. Danny (Carmine Giovinazzo) and Aiden (Vanessa Ferlito) process the scene in search of the elusive bullet. Mac finds a mobile/cell phone, but no bullet and Danny takes the tapes from the cameras. Hawkes (Hill Harper) deduces the Cod was a single Gsw to the back, which left through the front, from a high powered rifle. His vest is examined to see where the...

We went on record as not being fans of "House's" season finale last spring. Having now seen the Season 8 premiere, we're prepared to revise that decision somewhat.
This is what we said at the time, not knowing what creator David Shore and Co. had in store for House this season:
Say what you will about the way the Huddy romance was handled. The character deserves better than that. Instead, when House returns from his tropical sojourn sometime in Season 8, it appears Cuddy will be gone. Which in turn means that even though he just committed a major felony and then skipped town, House wins. That's not good, for the character or the show.
So it turns out that House did not win. There were, in fact, consequences, and the premiere dealt with the most obvious of them: House has been serving time for driving into Cuddy's living room and then fleeing.

Chicago – As long as Hugh Laurie limps in the shoes of Dr. Gregory House, the Fox TV nation will show up, because it’s a great actor taking a memorable character and and putting him in often strange and unexpected situations. The eighth season premiere of “House M.D.” on October 3rd is no exception.
TV Rating: 4.0/5.0
The premiere is juicy, because Gregory House is in jail – where I suspect even his hardcore fans believe he belongs. This new atmosphere is Kafka-esque, which adds a new twist to how the crabby disease-detecting doctor will operate. All the fine tuned elements of the House character are here, except the physician that is used to getting his way now will have to contend with shivs and stoolies, including the stunt casting of the former Steve Urkel (Jaleel White) as a cellblock procurer.
At the end of the seventh season, Gregory House (Hugh Laurie...

“Pyramid” was a straight continuation of the two-parter ending NCIS’s Port-to-Port killer arc. Having lured Agent Barrett and her team into a trap, Jonas Cobb (Kerr Smith) was last seen choking Barrett. Gibbs and Dinozzo search for her, and Gibbs finds her in a car trunk, wrapped in plastic, but still alive.
The draw of this episode, as its title suggests, was finding out who was responsible for the assassin training program that created Cobb. After weeks of build-up, it wasn’t much of a surprise that Vance, Trent Kort, and the Secretary of the Navy (Jude Ciccolella) all had key roles in the scheme. Vance conceived the program while at Naval War College in Rhode Island, the Secretary was responsible for its execution, and Kort had direct contact with the trainees. In fact, Cobb’s killing spree started under the jurisdiction of Barrett’s team in Spain because...

NCIS producer Gary Glasberg has revealed new details about the upcoming ninth season. He told Entertainment Weekly that Dinozzo's mission to uncover a leak in the NCIS squad will continue to be explored in future episodes. "That storyline will probably pick up in the season opener," he confirmed. "That's definitely something that will impact the team. I'm not sure yet how long it will go on, but it will definitely have ramifications that we'll follow through for a while." Glasberg also insisted that the new SecNav (Jude Ciccolella) is "not [intended as] an adversary" for Gibbs (Mark Harmon) (more)...

Nick (George Eads) and Ray (Laurence Fishburne) talk of Ray's impending court hearing with Nate Haskell (Bill Irwin) . Nick needs to get to the gym or he'll never go. Ray: "Are you felling obligated to leave Doc Robbins (Robert David Hall) a good-looking corpse." To which Nick replies, "Yeah, something like that." Hey his hair's grown back, now any chance of George leaving it like that! Anyway, prophetic words from Ray regarding Nick, as he almost does meet his doom. Ray tells him he's putting on his game face for the trial. Nick retorts he should give Haskell hell, but he's bound for there anyway. Ray and Haskell prepare for court simultaneously and you know from Haskell's smirk he's got something up his sleeve, literally. In court, Haskell comments the last three days he's been trying to control the monster and the media are portraying him as such. Hey that's Ray's word,...

Ray (Laurence Fishburne) is rushed to hospital after being stabbed by Haskell (Bill Irwin) and whilst there he hallucinates him escaping his handcuffs and being attacked by him. He comes out of it when he hears Nick (George Eads) saying he'll be okay. Glad Jorga came back, she was missed! Catherine (Marg Helgenberger) worries about her team, which some may call being too emotional for a woman! But she's got the right balance between knowing when to show emotion and when to be heavy-handed. At the funeral of Officer Clark (Reggie Vaughn Watkins), Nick is asked to leave by Brass (Paul Guilfoyle). "Sometimes the best thing to do is to just walk away." Understanding Officer Clark's family's grief, but that was a harsh thing to do, it's not his fault he died in the line of duty and Nick wasn't the one who pulled the trigger. Nick is clearly hurt...

I absolutely adore 24 and as a die-hard fan I think it's a brilliant show. It not only revolutionized television with its real-time format, but has been consistently entertaining since day one. Kiefer Sutherland was already somewhat of a star when the series premiered, but he became a household name synonymous with his character Jack Bauer, a hard as nails government agent out to protect the innocent and seek justice at the cost of his own life. I'm just as sorry as any fan to see the show go after eight seasons, but I'm also relieved. 24 has grown more than a little tired over the years, with story-lines and plot devices that have become incredibly familiar. That's because much of what we see has occurred before and every story line, plot thread or turn of events feels directly copied from previous seasons. Jack and his colleagues not only find themselves in the same situations,...

Simon Baker's Patrick Jane is going back to the past in the next episode of "The Mentalist". While he and the team examine the crime scene where a baseball scout is found murdered, he is clocked in the head by a ball and flashes back to his childhood with his overbearing father.
Titled "Throwing Fire", the episode will be aired on December 17 and has Nick Chinlund playing as Jane's father. Other guest stars include Brent Sexton, Jude Ciccolella, Omar Leyva, Frank Gallegos and Ben Bledsoe among others.
Previously, it was reported that Aunjanue Ellis will be joining "The Mentalist" cast, playing the new head of the California Bureau of Investigation. She is slated to make her debut on the show next spring, stepping in for Gregory Itzin who headed back to "24" to reprise his role as former President Charles Logan.

NEW YORK -- This low-budget indie about a young Dominican artist trying to fulfill his dreams of creating his own comic book resonates with a sort of geographical and textural verisimilitude that compensates for its rough-hewn technical and dramatic aspects.
An award winner at several film festivals, the film marks Alfredo De Villa's debut effort.
The story concerns two friends with unlikely aspirations, both living in the uptown, largely Hispanic Manhattan neighborhood that gives the film its name. Carlos (Manny Perez), 28, is a comic book illustrator but dreams of finding fame and fortune by creating a series. His best friend, Mickey Kilpatrick (Danny Hoch), the super of his building, has grandiose plans to become a professional bowler. Both men's goals are derided by their respective fathers, Eddie (Tomas Milian) and Sean (Jude Ciccolella), themselves best friends.
When Eddie is shot and left partially paralyzed by an attempted robbery at the bodega he owns, Carlos must temporarily put his plans on hold and attend to the store. Meanwhile, Mickey steals a large sum of money from a drug dealer to help fund his and Carlos Plans,' with the inevitable violent repercussions.
The screenplay, written by de Villa and Nat Moss, with additional participation by the notable short story writer Junot Diaz, largely concentrates, to excellent dramatic effect, on the relationship between Carlos and his father -- their scenes are charged with a quiet intensity. Only with its melodramatic and violent climax does the film become heavy-handed.
