Released through the Shudder streaming service last October, the horror anthology film V/H/S/99 quickly became the most-watched film in the history of Shudder. It’s a good thing they already greenlit another sequel – V/H/S/85 – for this year. But while we wait to see how V/H/S/85 is going to turn out, Rlje Films has given V/H/S/99 a Blu-ray, DVD, and steelbook release – and copies can be purchased at This Link.
The story segments that make up V/H/S/99 were directed by Maggie Levin (Into The Dark: My Valentine), Johannes Roberts (Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City), Flying Lotus (Kuso), Tyler MacIntyre (Tragedy Girls), and Joseph & Vanessa Winter (Deadstream). Here’s the synopsis: V/H/S/99 harkens back to the final punk rock analog days of VHS, while taking one giant leap forward into the hellish new millennium. In V/H/S/99, a thirsty teenager’s home video leads to a series of horrifying revelations.

When we saw the teaser trailer for Hobo with a Shotgun (watch it Here) director Jason Eisener’s new film Kids vs. Aliens back in September, it was said that Rlje Films would be giving the movie a theatrical, VOD, and digital release sometime in early 2023. Now we know exactly when that release is going to happen: January 20th! Kids vs. Aliens will then be moving to the Shudder streaming service sometime later in the year.
Written by Eisener and his Hobo with a Shotgun collaborator John Davies, Kids vs. Aliens has the following synopsis:
All Gary wants is to make awesome home movies with his best buds. All his older sister Samantha wants is to hang with the cool kids. When their parents head out of town one Halloween weekend, an all-time rager of a teen house party turns to terror when aliens attack, forcing the siblings to band together to survive the night.

History repeats itself. When the Shudder streaming service revived the V/H/S/ found footage horror franchise with V/H/S/94 last year, it really paid off for them. V/H/S/94 set viewership records and became the service’s biggest movie premiere ever. That’s why we got V/H/S/99 this year. And Shudder has a hit on their hands again.
Shudder sent out a press release to let us know V/H/S/99 “debuted to record numbers in its opening weekend. Through its first four days of release, the film registered 28 more unique viewers than the previous record holder, V/H/S/94, which premiered on Shudder in 2021. V/H/S/99 also accounted for nearly 22 of all on-demand streams on Shudder during the same time period and was AMC+’s #1 most watched movie of the weekend.“
It’s a good thing they already greenlit another sequel – V/H/S/85 – for next year.
Shudder’s Craig Engler had this to say:...

Kat Hughes from Thn writes, “V/H/S/99 is a delightful treasure trove of terror that deserves to be watched with as many of your friends as you can muster.”
Writing for ComicBook.com, Patrick Cavanaugh notes: “The strength of the series, and this installment especially, is in how it always manages to circumvent expectations, no matter how redundant the found-footage genre has become or how familiar...

Aiming for a 2023 release, the next sequel will be called V/H/S/85.
David Bruckner (Hellraiser 2022), Scott Derrickson (The Black Phone), Gigi Saul Guerrero (Bingo Hell), Natasha Kermani (Lucky), and Mike P. Nelson (the Wrong Turn reboot) are on board to direct segments of V/H/S/85.
Shudder’s Craig Engler provided the following statement: “Since its inception, the V/H/S franchise has been a showcase for both established and emerging horror filmmakers to terrify audiences with innovative takes on the found footage genre. Shudder & Studio71’s Cinepocalypse & Bloody Disgusting-produced V/H/S/99 isn’t even out yet and we’re already rewinding all the way back to the 1980s with V/H/S/85!
The news was announced out of the New York Comic Con where Shudder is putting our V/H/S/99 on display ahead of the October 20th release date.
Directors are already locked for V/H/S/85 and filming is currently underway for release in 2023.
Here’s who we lined up:
The only legacy filmmaker is David Bruckner, who will be spearheading the latest entry. Bruckner directed the “Amateur Night” segment of the first V/H/S which featured the breakout performance of Hannah Fierman as a succubus. Bruckner, who also directed Searchlight’s The Night House, just celebrated the release of his Hellraiser reimaging. We’ve been huge fans of Bruckner since he co-directed The Signal and also absolutely love his Netflix creature feature The Ritual.

Eleven years have passed since director Jason Eisener brought us Hobo with a Shotgun (watch it Here), and while we have had other pieces of Eisener entertainment to watch since then – he contributed segments to the anthologies The ABCs of Death and V/H/S/2, and also directed the series The Dark Side of the Ring – we haven’t gotten another Eisener feature film. Until now. Eisener’s new film Kids vs. Aliens is set to premiere at Fantastic Fest later this month, and it has also secured distribution beyond that. Variety reports that Rlje Films will be giving Kids vs. Aliens a theatrical, VOD, and digital release sometime in early 2023. Then the movie will receive a streaming release through Shudder.

"V/H/S/" has been a formidable mainstay in the horror genre ever since its first entry back in 2012. Since then, three sequels have been released, with last year's "V/H/S/ 94" being exclusive to the genre streaming service Shudder. Despite the longevity of the franchise, it has never strayed away from its core creative manta: hire up-and-coming horror directors to direct a found-footage short film, then present them as long-lost videos that connect to a larger story. This draw helped launch the careers of several now-prominent genre directors, such as Radio Silence ("V/H/S/"), Timo Tjahjanto ("V/H/S/ 2"), Justin Benson ("V/H/S/: Viral"), and Chloe Okuno ("V/H/S/ 94").
Now, the franchise is back, and it wants to party like it's 1999. That's because it technically is; "V/H/S/ 99" will take place at the turn of the new millennium amidst the decline of VHS recording and the omnipresent threat of Y2K. With...

Dan Weinstein, the digital media veteran who had a significant hand in building the careers of seminal YouTube stars like Lilly Singh, Rhett & Link, and Hannah Hart, is departing Studio71 -- where he most recently served as co-founder and president -- after a 13-year tenure.
Weinstein is leaving of his own volition, and says his decision preceded the announcement last week that top execs Adam Boorstin and Matt Crowley were being crowned co-CEOs of the multi-channel network, as former CEO Reza Izad ascends to the role of chairman. All of the executive changes, including Weinstein's departure, will become effective Nov. 1.
Weinstein, for his part, tells Tubefilter that he's making the move in order to to return to his entrepreneurial roots.
“One of the things that I enjoy most is all-around building the business -- innovating new opportunities, new business models, the anxiety of finding the right people and making the right deal,...

Studio71 has some brand new leadership at the highest echelons, amid a strategic shift away from its roots as a YouTube-focused multi-channel network into a more all-encompassing digital force.
The company announced today that co-founder and CEO Reza Izad will shift to the role of chairman, with the CEO position being dually filled by top execs Adam Boorstin and Matt Crowley. Boorstin currently serves as Studio71's COO, while Crowley is ascending to the chief executive role from his former position as chief revenue officer. All of the appointments will become effective Nov. 1.
Boorstin arrived at Studio71 in 2015, and was tasked with expanding the company’s business beyond YouTube by forging deals with the likes of Amazon Prime, Roku, and PlutoTV. In recent years, Studio71 says, off-YouTube revenues have more than doubled annually. Boorstin also leads Studio71’s two-year-old podcasting division, which counts over 100 shows that generate 30 million monthly streams.

Studio71, the digital content producer and creator firm, has promoted chief business officer Adam Boorstin to a new role, effective immediately: COO.
Boorstin will continue to report directly to Studio71 CEO Reza Izad, but in an expanded capacity that will see him assume responsibility for day-to-day operations and growth strategy.
Formerly, as chief business officer, Boorstin oversaw Studio71’s acquisition of over 50 Ott apps from Unreel Entertainment, giving it a combined network of more than 200 owned-and-operated platforms. He also commissioned Adulting With Emma Chamberlain at Snapchat and The Real Bros Of Simi Valley -- starring Jimmy Tatro -- at Facebook Watch. Boorstin is also credited with launching Studio71’s podcast business, which comprises more than 70 shows that generate 18 million monthly streams. Studio71 wants to mine podcasts for more ad dollars by extending the reach of its stable of YouTube content creators into a new medium.
Over the past two months, the digital-media company has launched 11 podcasts with creator partners. Those include “Fanboi with Harley Morenstein,” featuring Morenstein (pictured above), the host and creator of Epic Meal Time. Morenstein’s podcast launched last week and hit the top five podcasts on iTunes for the Games and Hobbies category. Other include “Kayln’s Coffee Talk,” “Don’t Mess with Christine Sydelko,” and “Sh*t They Don’t Tell You” with Nikki Limo and Steve Greene.
The opportunity for Studio71 is to take digital influencers and deliver ad-supported audio-content for millennial and Gen Z audiences (18-34), said CEO Reza Izad. Podcast audiences historically have skewed older than that younger demo.
