Stripes (1981)

surprise prize / blast from the recent past

i remember seeing this as a kid when it came out.. and only thing i liked then was when the platoon did the amazing song and dance at graduation which in itself was very impressive, and of course the cute mp's that kept bailing them out of trouble.... but watching it again 20 yrs later there's a ton of good stuff that i missed and can appreciate this comedy ever more .... fully recommended for anyone having a lousy day ... put your feet up grab your snack foods and enjoy one of the best comedies ever made... with an all star cast.. those then they were just emerging.

definitely a classic army comedy. solid flick with few cheesy moments even they are likable.

... on its own this one in the series is good; different of course, but good. some changes are blatant of course, molly and d'angelo. but still has that small town, big city cop feel. it moves the series along just enough, without being silly or indulgent. parallels and parables still tag teaming in the storyline. which works well. i enjoy this series very much, it will eventually standup well against the test of other cop shows that have come before it. Selleck is great, and so is the whole cast, including the antagonistic others(city council). i'll sum up this series like this... after a long day its good to be cozy in ur favorite chair and sweats, flipping on the electronic device of choice and finding some new twist or beat that seemed not there before, and relishing it anew, once again.

Casino Royale (2006)

Pick, Good Pick..

Maybe I'm biased but i saw Daniel Craig in 2 films before this one and was impressed enough that i thought to myself he's headed to a very large rise in the biz... those films were.. The Jacket and Layer Cake... oddly enough i didn't catch his name fully so i didn't realize who was playing the newest bond.. and so in a sense i predicted right.. and gladly so.. he's very cool to watch .. got that Steve McQueenism going on with a bit of a pug look (Charles Bronson). He likes what he does and he does what he likes well.. I'm pleased that he's the next Bond to carry the series and he will carry it as well as Connery if he stays interested.. as for the movie, it was nicely put together and exciting with just enough spots to make you wanna pulverize the bad guys and kiss the goils.. (lol).. as with most Bond films.. shot with beautiful places in mind and lavishness enough to go round .. well done.. the series survives thanks to a great choice for the newest bond alumni to be and daring scenes.. as they say .. carry on McDuff .. as a side note i felt that Layer Cake was a grooming movie .. to test Craig if he could be a Star.. glad i was right....

Be Cool (2005)

be funny .. be fun... be entertained... Be Cool

this movie is a fun and cool movie ..start to finish.. thanks to travolta.. music is good.. scenes and scenery is colorful and interesting.. characters are lively and quite funny .. hilarious in spots..thanks to the rock and Vince Vaughan.. of course.. rap gangsta's do help, tho they bring a bummer to the flick before redeeming themselves in the end.. and yeah as a sequel its already self promoted from Get Shorty but unlike most sequels ..it's a story and film unto itself.. so .. watching it, you never see nor expect, after the start .. the need to reflect or reference Get Shorty to understand whats going on.. which is cool.. (lol).. lots of big enuff stars in it ..even in still shot cameos.. Hanks and Kidman.. Devito adds a spot of comical filler... no way a disappointment and a film that will be watched more than once.. no matter who the viewer is.. there's just that much going on, that more than an initial watch is needed. Without really giving the storyline nor plot .. i think this will sell the movie as is.. but if you do need to know the storyline.. um.. watch the movie and remember it's Get Shorty's sequel.. nuff said (lol) Do enjoy!

The Protector (2005)

the protector kicks butt

i give the protector an 8 outta 10.. why? coz its amazing the fight scenes and work and detail that went in to it.. yes some of it is campy and even obnoxiously unappealing but never when it comes to Jaa doin his thing.. don't know where he gets his magic from but ain't no one else like him .. even as there are so many other great martial artist before him and even presently active .. he is unique.. a thrill to watch and his innovative and improvisational moves has him never being a dull fighter.. watching him i could only predict a move he would make on a bad guy rarely and thats what makes someone very very watchable and with the plot being about fair but punishing justice, seeking it and delivering as he does in the movie is a treat .. its a decent formula as it goes in such flicks... when he is put into a slicker production that caters to not just kids and hacks on the streets but full adults ... he'll be the next king of martial arts .. on film .. he is already for me.. i'd dare say he's the next Jet li..

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (2005)

this film has everything ..

Downy has redeemed himself of any past film boobs... he's slightly charming, very very funny, witty, and easy to watch thru out this flick, Kilmer is in his most interesting role .. controversial at least and is humorous at the right times..and does a good job, Corben needed the money and role is why he's in it.. otherwise he's a non item in this flick (sadly.. because i have seen him do good work.. this is definitely not his finest).. the fill out cast does a good job for Downy and Kilmer to waddle thru .. and do their thing... whats really great is how Downy narrates thru-out .. a film filled with lots of extra stuff going on ..that its one of those films that will be watched 3 times or more to get or see all thats in it.. and thats what makes some films great.. as is in this case.. most surely a worthwhile watch.. again and again and again... oh and the gal that played harmony was good too .. and had me guessing until late in the film if she was not in with the bad guys.. i'm glad she wasn't...
