Upgraded (2024)
Predictable Upgrade
I found myself captivated by this film after stumbling upon a TikTok featuring the airport scene, where Claire's assistants mistreat Ana, leading to her unexpected upgrade from economy to first class. Yet, the remainder of the movie unfolds predictably, resembling a Devil Wears Prada take on the art world. The chemistry between Ana and her love interests feels as frigid as an arranged marriage, lacking believability. Despite ample opportunities to come clean, she only confesses once caught, and the audacity of her lie seems implausible in an era of easily accessible online information. Surprisingly, Ana's most compelling dynamic is with her love interest's mother, leaving me unsure if the director aimed to convey that her passion for art surpassed her love for William. In the final act, she confesses without facing significant consequences, merely ending the relationship. A sudden leap six months ahead reveals Ana magically wealthy and successful, with the love interest reentering the scene seemingly out of nowhere. Questions linger about his absence and whether he missed her. With added depth to the storyline, this could have been a standout film.
The Beekeeper (2024)
Almost John Wick
I'm a huge Jason Statham fan, i was lured in by the fantastic trailer. Statham and Jeremy Irons delivered strong performances, however in my opinion the plot lacked believability, resembling the introduction of John Wick in terms of a feared protagonist. It felt like an attempt to replicate the success of the John Wick franchise. Despite this, I see potential for redemption in a sequel. Regretfully, I should have waited for the movie to hit mainstream television to save some bucks. I'll give it another watch, hoping for a different perspective and anticipating improvements in a potential sequel.
Blue Beetle (2023)
Watch the Trailer only
Yet another film falling prey to the trailer's allure, promising a masterpiece only to unravel into disappointment. A somewhat likable protagonist finds themselves in the midst of an unfunny supporting cast, a recipe for mediocrity. It's perplexing why writers overlook the potential for depth. Reflecting on an animated series like "Young Justice," which skillfully portrayed the Blue Beetle's origins, it becomes evident that meticulous storytelling is possible.
The movie landscape seems plagued by a repetition of these lackluster productions. A simple delve into well-crafted narratives could potentially yield a cinematic masterpiece. Unfortunately, what unfolds is a jumbled, unfunny mess, leaving the viewer struggling to endure until the credits roll. It begs the question of why studios don't invest more in the groundwork that transforms an ordinary movie into an unforgettable experience.
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (2022)
How not to break the fourth wall
The series, though short enough to complete in a day, failed to live up to expectations. Despite reading numerous negative reviews beforehand, I ventured into watching it. While the plot had potential to be engaging, the acting was passable, and the CGI left something to be desired. My overall experience was disappointing; it lacked humor, and just when the show seemed promising, the character broke the fourth wall with unfunny material, almost cringe-worthy. If there's a second season in the pipeline, I won't be investing my time in it. The lack of enjoyment and the perplexity of why I subjected myself to it linger.
Black Widow (2021)
Not bad but not good either
I am a big MCU fan and have been ever since I purchased my first Silver Surfer comic in my teens. Out of all the movies the in the MCU my favorite was the Guardians of the Galaxy.
I went into this movie with very high expectations especially after Infinity Endgame.
The plot seems intriguing however it was not executed well enough for such a big budget movie like this.
The CGI was just ok nothing to seriously write home about.
The acting seemed forced the comedy was not funny at all, the fake Russian accents just made it worse.
Other MCU movies I have re-watched more than three times, this movie I am not going to re-watch.
Time Sleeper (2020)
Not great but not bad either
I am a sucker for anything sci-fi especially the concept time travel, watched this on Amazon prime a few seconds in I could already tell this was a low budget, so I knew not to expect to much from the movie. I was actually pleasantly surprised at how watchable it actually was. The acting was good and the pacing was abit slow, however in general its a good movie. My only question is on the subliminal messages which are quite prevalent in this movie.
Thunder Force (2021)
Only Laughed once or Twice
After watching the trailer I was enticed into watching this movie, thinking i was about to watch a sci-fi comedy only to be disappointed. This movie was not funny at all. You are better off watching the trailer only. The only positive was that i did not have to pay for a ticket to watch this movie.
Odd Thomas (2013)
Odd but good
A Stephen Sommers film, the director who directed classics like the Mummy. I wss pleasantly surprised at how good the movie actually was. The onscreen chemistry of the cast was very believable and the script was very well written. The pacing was very good and the cgi was actually quite good for a movie released in 2013.
Sensation (2021)
No sensation
After reading the plot i thought i would be watching a sci-fi movie but instead was subjected to nonsensical plot twists and flashbacks that do not make this movie watchable. Don't waste your money or time watching this movie, it will keeep you watching hoping that it goes somewhere, but will end up leaving you confused and upset due to the lack of ever getting your time back that was spent watching this nosense. The twist at the end makes no sense at all.
Seungriho (2021)
CGI That does not suck
I was looking for a good science fiction movie to watch and was intrigued after reading the plot. A few minutes into the movie I was somewhat impressed with the CGI, took awhile to get used to the dubbing. Overall its great storytelling via a well written script with believable characters and a plot that keeps you glued to your screen. They writers could have given the audience a bit more information about the villain, that was the only issue i had with the movie. Go see this movie you will not be disappointed.
Artemis Fowl (2020)
Only watch the trailer
After almost 90 days of lockdown, I thought why not sit down and watch a good movie. The trailer seemed to hint at a wonderful sci-fi movie. I was so utterly disappointed, the narration was irritating and seemed to be forced. I would never encourage piracy, however this time please rather download this movie. I could only stomach this movie in bite sized bits.
Powers (2015)
Rather Read the Synopsis
I am a sucker for anything science fiction, beautiful gems like Fringe, Heroes, The Orville, the 4400. This series is nowhere near the aforementioned list probably due to a poor actor choice and very bad script writing and don't get me started on the very average CGI and effects. I was only able to stomach 3 episodes before I was compelled to read the Synopsis.
Murder Mystery (2019)
Enough laughs to make it watchable
Have not been a Adam Sandler fan since his film 50 first dates the only movie I really enjoyed by him was The Waterboy a few other films have been relatively okay, films like The Wedding singer and Billy Madison. However other films have been stinkers films like Little Nicky, Jack and Jill and You don't mess with the Zohan just to name a few. This film was actually quite funny in parts it actually kept me entertained throughout. Jennifer Aniston is just brilliant and the comedy does not seem forced at all.
Aladdin (2019)
Will Smith Can Sing
I am someone who has become very picky about remakes due some remakes or rather adaptations not working or rather being rather lacklustre. I went into this one expecting the worst but was relatively surprised at how enjoyable it was. The only negative if any was that the scenes with will Smith seemed to be the best part of the movie in my opinion, not saying that the other actors were poor or anything. The fresh prince of Bellaire joke was also subtle but funny aswell. Take your whole family to watch you will not be disappointed and yes i sang along to a whole new world.
John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum (2019)
Funny violence
After the many positive reviews I decided to go see it for myself and believe me I was not disappointed at all. The choreography of the fight scenes is world class, some of the scenes had me literally gasping in shock. The comedic violence was also very funny and did not seem forced at all. However if you are a person that is unable to handle blood and gore this might not be your cup of tea.
Men in Black: International (2019)
Only laughed once
This was one of the worst movies I have seen this year. The plot is non existent, the acting is meh. I almost left halfway through the movie. The breakdancing bad guys are actually good guys who kill people, I was cringing for many moments in the movie. If only i were able to get a refund. So basically I can sum up this movie in a few words, being a movie that tried to be funny and serious at the same time but was neither.
Alita: Battle Angel (2019)
Alita bit of this alita bit of that
After watching a number of videos on YouTube, stating reasons why this movie was going to bomb at the BoxOffice. I decided to go and watch it anyway, make up my own mind and am i glad most definitely. This was the best animated movie I've seen this year, didn't even notice the over two hours runtime . All I can say please don't ruin the sequel.
I highly recommend this movie any rating less than 8 is pure hate, did I just rhyme. Am I a poet and didn't even know it. Another good tip don't buy a large drink because you don't want to miss one single frame.
The Predator (2018)
That's my suit bub
Why why why, I couldn't believe just how bad this movie is. The Predator comes to earth to save earth but starts attacking and killing of people. The humour did not work and was not funny at all. The female Doctor can somehow jump on to a moving bus with a tranquilliser rifle in hand and somehow not fall off, she then shoots herself in the foot with the same tranquillizer rifle that supposedly has a dosage strong enough to knock out a predator and is able to jump of the bus uninjured I could go on and on. Don't buy this movie wait for it to air on your local TV station. This was the worst movie I have seen so far this year.
Kin (2018)
Good enough for a sequel
Went into this movie very skeptical, (That's what happens when you read reviews before watching it for your self) I thought the pace of the movie dragged abit, almost like we want to see what this weapon can do. Acting was good and the ending does answer quite a few of the questions however more questions remain unanswered. Is he an alien? Is he from the future ? Why is he special ? Its very possible that a sequel may never come to answer the questions. So until the sequel I will have go with my imagination.
The Darkest Minds (2018)
Not as dark as I expected
After reading the mixed reviews for this movie I decided to go see it for myself, I was actually impressed at how good the movie really was. The acting was very good, the effects were also relatively well made. My only gripe with the movie was that just when it seemed to climax and a good versus evil battle was about begin the movie just suddenly ends, obviously pointing inevitably to a sequel in the not to distant future i hope.
Don't know how a person can trash this movie, from now on I am going to review future movies with my own eyes. It's my money after all.
Braven (2018)
Waste of muscles
After watching the Justice league movie, I expected to see aquaman beating up some baddies. Instead I am given a what are those muscles for action sequences, a bad guy that just wants to kill. I would suggest you rent the dvd or stream it. The one good thing about the movie though are the very beautiful mountainous scenic views. I am not for one suggesting that the acting is not believable, its just that the plot is very weak.
Jack Reacher: Never Go Back (2016)
Mission possible!!!
I have always been a Tom Cruise fan and he does not disappoint in this sequel.Even though the story line and plot is nothing new, it still manages to capture one's attention. The characters are very believable and the on screen chemistry is very touching. They're a few scenes i need to re watch when the movie becomes available on DVD, for example how Reacher is able to punch through car windows without breaking his hand and apparently it's very easy to buy airplane tickets with stolen credit cards.
I still enjoyed the first movie much more however this one was able to provide a few good laughs, I also enjoyed the fact that the action is not over stylized. In my opinion I felt the movie needed another ten more minutes to explore the relationship between Reacher and the girl, this could be used in a follow up film (hint, hint)
Ghostbusters (2016)
With that budget it could have been so great
For the record I would like to say that I have nothing against women, in fact I married one. Now back to the movie, after watching the trailer I couldn't get myself to spend money on this movie, I waited patiently for an opportunity to rather Watch it on the small screen and I am not disappointed for the choice i made. The characters are not believable, the nonsensical, clichéd plot was disappointing. I only need one hand to count the number of times I laughed. The movie is far to looooong.
Finally i was not sure if I should be offended by the subliminal messages, on race and male sex.( White women scientists, black woman not)
