Santa Clarita Diet (2017)
This show is an absolute comedy gem!
An absolute gem! Out of all the good shows that are cancelled, this one that I'm disappointed the most with the cancellation decision. I was never a fan of fantasy/zombie/vampire type genres. I happened to watch this show at work (I support people with special needs and one of them liked this show). My first impression was that "oh it's one of them cheap production weird shows". But as the I went past the first two episodes and the story and characters developed I realised how hilarious this series is. And I mean that unironically. The jokes and the writing is clever and witty! The main characters are endearing, the side characters are hilarious, the twists are captivating, the show doesn't take itself too seriously but the love put in making the show is also apparent...etc. Each character also has a unique personality and you find yourself caring and for them all. It has got some comic book vibes as well. Everything about this show is brilliant! If I have one wish,.. well obviously I'd wish for world peace and peace, end world hunger and all that. But if I had one selfish pleasure wish, I'd wish for this show production to resume.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)
Phenomenal!!
That was phenomenal! After watching the first Captain America film (The First Avenger), it striked as a relatively entertaining cheesy superhero movie.
I went to watch the Winter Soldier film having the same expectations. Oh boy was I blown away!..This is not a cheesy superhero muscly film. This is a masterpiece of a thrilling, captivating spy movie.
Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
Heartwarming
It was a heartwarming moment and touch when the Garfield spiderman saved MJ from falling and immediately tearing up as while he couldn't save his Gwen, he saved another's spiderman's love.
Threat Level Midnight: The Movie (2011)
Not for the faint of heart! Thrilling Action!
Michael Scott/Steve Carell acts his heart out in his role of Michael Scarn. Thrilling action and all round great movie, probably the best. How this movie was not nominated for a dundee is beyond me!
The Righteous Gemstones (2019)
Hilarious, clever and phenomenal acting
Hilarious show but the 10/10 acting will also keep you invested in the story and in suspense the whole duration of the show. The jokes, drama, characters...etc. are all cleverly worked out. The season finale is perfect! And, I have to comment on how good the acting is one more time.
True Story (2015)
A great psychological story but average movie
I found the story really interesting and had high potentials but seems that the movie did not capitalize and bring the best of it.
I am not sure if the casting choice was right. I couldn't take Hill or Franco seriously at times. Also, the writing seems rushed. The interviews could have been more. The interactions and conversations between Finkel and Logan were too few and, I did not feel their connection grow. Logan seemed like a close acquaintance at best while, in real life they were both still in contact to this day as the movie mentioned in the end. (or at least till 2015).
The fact that they were still in contact was the main highlight for me and what I thought was really interesting. And that was only a written text at the end of the movie. Seeming that I was surprised that they have this kind of connection in real life, the movie didn't do a good job.
Venom (2018)
Venomous!!
I never read the comics so, I had no expectations when I went in. Spiderman 3 is all I knew about Venom. Man did turn out to be something awesome than I ever thought.
By the way I usually dislike superhero movies whether its from Marvel or DC but, this I really liked.
I get where the critics are coming from. The character idea had way more potential and could have been better if the screen writers had more patience and develop a better screen lines. But I was left happy and in awe. Granted a big part of why liked the movie was because I had no idea how awesome the idea of Venom was (since I never read the comics).
Also, the action scenes weren't anything special or jaw dropping. We're in 2018/19 so we got desensitized to most of the action scenes and its hard to top it off. It takes real creativity to think of good action scenes and moves. But then again I didn't enter expecting action moves as Mission Impossible or a Jackie Chan movie.
Personally I'd say 7or8/10 but I also understand why an old comic fan would give it a 6/10 or less.
Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox (2013)
Too bizarre
This one was too bizarre and unpleasant to watch.
It is irritating see supposedly noble characters acting childishly, foolishly and destroying the world over a dispute and an affair.
At one point, Wonder Woman makes Captain Thunder break the spell and kills Bill Batson and the children because they got in her way. The Wonder Woman I know from the Justice League episodes from 2004.
More importantly, how the world has changed dramatically because of a small detail as Flash saving his mom was never explained. Except that, it is only explained by the "Time Boom" effect which sent ripples that changed other events bla bla....which is of course a very lazy explanation and awful. Unfortunately, this has been a trend in many latest superhero movies where strange and illogical events would go unexplained or given an obnoxious explanation where the creators rely on the special effects and the heightened graphical quality of the movie to compensate for the poor story and scenario quality.
