One Day (2024)

Well written Well portrayed
2 April 2024
Three have been so many disappointing series lately and we were wondering if this was gong to be another let down. But we were pleasantly surprised We were drawn in from the start and each episode left us wanting more.

The story line is really clever and the "one day a year" episodes are an innovative idea.

Our household hotly debated each episode and there were multiple opinions. This means good TV from our perspective.

There was some frustration with the main two characters as our family disagreed over the chemistry between the two of them. We were not sure if the awkwardness was intentional... her superiorness and his pathetic irresponsibility.

But we strongly suggest persevering to the end and decide for yourself.

Gripping and Disappointing
15 February 2024
I feel absolutely robbed by this mini series. Each of the early episodes keeps you both horrified and fascinated. The acting by Carrel and Gleeson is of the highest order.

One also feels totally caught up in the confinement of the therapist.

You also really feel the unpredictability of the killer and personally I felt absolute disgust for his mother. But others in our group sympathized more with her.

But all of this pales into insignificance compared to the absolutely pathetic and disappointing ending. I cannot believe I wasted so much time watching all these episodes only to come to such an anti climactic ending. If they do another season be sure that I will never watch a minute of it.

Great Acting, Terrible Storyline
6 November 2022
Our family was really looking forward to watching this intriuging series. Unfortunately the experience fell way short of what was promised. I understand that the writers are trying to show how 'normal' people can be driven to committ terrible criminal acts, given the right circumstances, but the events and scenarios are SO improbable as to be entirely unconvincing.

Nevertheless, Stanley Tucci and David Tenant do their best with an absolutely awful script (and it did leave me wondering if the actors realized they were taking a hefty fee knowing they were going to be acting out a lemon!! (Some of Tucci's intellectual brainteasers are absolutely laughable. Pay the-rapist!!! A schoolyard level joke!!) All in all it was very dissapointing viewing.

Zellweger kills
21 May 2022
Rene Zellweger's performance in this disturbing mini series is nothing short of brilliant. Kudos must also go to the entire cast because they all brought their A game. One is also left wondering just how the DA and Cops could be so blind to the obvious. Possibly even willingly turning a blind eye. Good justice systems need good checks and balances.

Gladdens an older fans heart
15 January 2022
I know there are thousands of reviews for this movie and maybe no one sees this, but anyway, I needed to say something. I'm over 50 and this is the best Spiderman movie I've seen. I realize there is some nostalgia talking here but even so, this movie delivered and did it well.

torture
15 January 2022
There is so much wrong with this movie which is unfortunate because at heart it could have worked. But it just felt a little wooden and clunky. It was like everyone was just going through the motions to make a buck on another poor imitation of the great British rom com movies. As for the actors, Jeremy Irons was good but the others were below par.

could have been brilliant

I love the story line. It keeps you coming back for more.

The greatest disappointment is the wooden performance from some of the key actors.

Its also weird seeing recognisable Australian suburbs of Melbourne.

So much promise came to naught
20 March 2021
This movie started so well but lost its way. It felt almost like it didn't know how to end. All the characters are irredeemable, so you end up rooting for none of them.

So much promise
18 October 2020
The first two seasons were largely brilliant... but season 3 mostly meanders aimlessly. Thin story and poor plot development with lots of interesting but irrelevant musical fillers.

One of the most disturbing movies of the decade
20 September 2020
This is a compelling movie full of irredeemable people played by brilliant actors. Tom Holland and Robert Pattinson are particularly impressive as they portray southerners without giving any hint to their English roots. In the end I was left disgusted by the characters but praising the brilliance of the performances.

Loneliness of the viewer
5 September 2020
I'm a fan of Kaufman so I expected the odd , intriguing journey through to the unexpected ending. But sadly this one didn't quite work. It felt like the symbolism was just too obscure especially given the fact that the book had a much clearer resolution.

Captures Eurovision with a funny twist
27 June 2020
The movie really brings the unique kitchness of Eurovision to the world. Maybe the main actors are a bit weak in holding their accents and humor doesn't always land, but overall it's a good experience.

Nearly brilliant
20 June 2020
This story is a great idea with some good acting segments and deserves to be praised for that. It just didn't come together well enough. I partly blame streaming services for trading quality for quantity.

Potentially good
31 March 2020
This movie had lots of promise but in the end it felt as if it didn't really come together. Worth watching, but don't expect much depth.

Feeling so let down
25 December 2019
I really felt this movie could have been potentially brilliant. I was really into it at the beginning, but it began to feel as if the director tried to squeeze some sort of rushed epic conclusion together. Some strings didn't tie up (what was Finn wanting to say?). I could forgive a lot in the story line but the disappointing ending left me feeling so let down. We waited for years for the Rey-Ben tension to reach its happy climax but

Intriguing and Frustrating
8 November 2019
I understand that the contrast between the grieving husband and father and the family and friends superficiality is part of what makes the movie compelling. I do feel that some of the dialogue was flat and the dark comedy might have been better if the extent of the loss was not so huge. Perhaps if only the wife had died? So in the end it felt as if the supporting family and friends were way too self centred given the heaviness of the grief that should have been there.
