Platoon (1986)
Good Movie
I remember liking this movie a lot better the first time I watched it back after it first came out on video. Maybe it is just dated or is perhaps the kind of movie that only has a big effect on you the first time you watch it. I remember some of the scenes were very shocking to me back then. I probably don't need to say which ones I mean, it's obvious to those who have seen the movie and would be spoilers to anyone who has not watched it yet. Today though the scenes are much less shocking. Maybe it's because other movies are going a lot further now or just because I've already seen this movie before. I still think it's a very good movie that has things to say about war and men, it's just not as powerful as I originally believed. Great acting and direction and a very good script too.
This Movie Sucks! (2010)
Doesn't Compare To MST3K, But Not Bad!
This show is very funny sometimes but it doesn't have the same look or feel or level of entertainment value as Mystery Science Theater did back when it was on.
They clearly don't have even as much of a small budget as MST3K did but the best episodes they did were special ones like when they had the telethon to raise money because their bosses were such cheap bastards. That's one place this show was great because they could do and say things that they couldn't on MST3K because Canadian TV has looser rules and regulations about that stuff.
The host Ed the Sock is someone you either love or hate and I always loved him. The big downfall in this show is it just had a really cheap look and sometimes just looked boring. Ron Sparks is maybe the best sidekick ever and my biggest laughs were from his comments during the movie. I always liked the movie part better than the part where they just talked about the movie because that stuff got boring, the good stuff about these shows is when you watch a really bad movie and just trash it.
Judgment Night (1993)
Better Than Expected
Judgment Night is one of those movies that we watched assuming it would just be a cheap action-by-the-numbers movie but we were really pleasantly surprised by how good and interesting the movie turned out to be. First off this movie has some really good actors in it. Denis Leary is amazing in this as the cold blooded murderer hunting down a group of four friends with his gang, trying to kill them before they get to the police because they witnessed him murder someone else. This is probably the role that helped him break out as an actor. Emilio Estevez, Stephen Dorff and Cuba Gooding Jr are also good, and Jeremy Piven is great as always as the fourth friend. Highly recommended by me.
Cheaper by the Dozen (2003)
Cheaper By The Dozen
Did you ever notice that when you buy more than one of something it is cheaper? Well the people who made this movie certainly did. There are 12 kids instead of one kid. You can buy 12 times as much food but it doesn't cost you 12 times as much money so it totally makes sense to have twelve kids. If you have like seven kids and you meet somebody you like and they have five kids you should marry them even if you don't like them just because over all you will be pooling your money and resources together and saving valuable money. It must be hard to keep track of so many kids and it was for this guy in this movie there were all kinds of problems and funny high jinx.
