Tried too hard
18 May 2020
This was disappointing, the plot was contrived and unoriginal for all that it tried to look quirky and different. I'll have to read the book though seems from other reviews its worth giving a go

What the heck is wrong with everyone

Its cgi fun but also a big chaotic holey mess. Too much bludgeoning.of forced emotions and a lot of idiocy and actions Seriously surprised at the 8-10 syar ratings..

Beautiful

The attention to detail is GORGEOUS. Just for the art alone it gets high marks. And the offbeat style was great, q.bit different and captured something that I hadnt seen in a while. I was accompanied by brothers and friends some who weren't necessarily fans but ended up enjoying it a lot. One thung I liked was how the Japanese was selectively translated. Also the political and ecologicalsituations harked back to the reality of today. The dogs were heartwarming. The people were wierd. It was a quirky movie. Awesome.

Loved it

Everytime I rewatch this I cant stop laughing. I changed my 9 to a 10 because of this. Its just so absurdly FUNNY. The sharp.slaptick wacky humor.grabs me and replaces whatever flaws there are (most likely there are many but I was laughing too much to care), and usually I nitpick and hate movies easily but this one grabbed me.

Failan (2001)

beautifully painful
19 April 2017
This was so heartrending I never want to watch it again, however Im thankful to have watched it. It's beautiful in a way that breaks you.

Failan is the sweetness that is this movie, and Kangjae is the helpless violence. Together this makes for a very touching movie. I watched it a few months ago but I still feel sad inside about it when I think about the story.

I stupidly came in thinking it would be a story where the woman changes the mans life for the better. The synopsis was a bit misleading for me, I think that's what made it even sadder. She does change him however. Its amazing how so little has such an impact, when they never met.

This isn't your typical romance. There are brutal things so faint of heart I would advise to be wary. However its worth the pain, because its so beautiful.

Cute movie, with random bits
3 September 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I was a big fan of My Tutor Friend so when a friend told me of a 2nd one I had to watch. One of the things I loved about the first were the scenarios the girl would have, whereas in this movie, there is just one or two. However it definitely has some laugh out loud scenes and trademark Korean wacky.

Junko is from Japan and has traveled to Korea as an exchange student, following a boy. She arrives at a Korean guest house where the owner gives her his son Jomgman's room to stay. This leads Junko to pack her bags. Jongman finds out her reason for coming to Korea and tricks her into staying by saying he knows the boy she is looking for. Meanhile her father also bargains with her to stay by forcing his son to give her Korean lessons. In retaliation Jongman tricks Junko into humiliating situations, due to her lack of knowledge on Korean slang.

Jongman also has a secret which leads him to have random phone calls and leave mysteriously. The supporting cast of characters are funny, with the token white guy George from France who seems to love eating, the two best friends of Jongman who get into compromising situations, the crazy dad etc.

Overall this film fell into clichés but still managed to be random and weird. The plot wasn't completely smooth, and it had a fair few holes in it but the cast was funny enough that it was enjoyable. There is also some drama and sad parts and a triumphant climax ending before an ending but its a little mediocre. Its quite an innocent romance overall, but I do like the cute ending.

Loved it, good tear jerker
3 September 2015
This was one of the first Korean movies I watched. A story of an arrogant rich boy and a sweet girl with a secret and their love. Its about redemption too by the end. Knowing now the clichés of illnesses and love in Korean romance, I have to say this was on of my faves and still is. The acting was superbly done for me personally despite the possible clichés.

There are some fight scenes, some stupid scenes and some really sweet romantic scenes. It had some funny but mainly sweet and sad moments. Its definitely a tear jerker. My favourite part is when they stay in their house together waiting.

Overall one worth watching.
