Andor: Reckoning (2022)
Fantastic telly let down by poor writing
Just watched Episode 3 having not been too impressed/engrossed by the first two episodes a month or so ago. Much better episode, fantastic structure, tension building and music too, but the writing was poor in a lot of ways for me.
So obvious they were going to get raided (spent so long talking anyway), obvious the box was gonna be left (the moment he followed to the end of the room was signposting this), obvious the boyfriend was going to run when told to stop (she already was annoyed with him, he's trying to show how much he cares bla bla bla), obvious the ship had been tied down (the shipyard friend walked away from its direction - sidenote but why didn't the guy flying away just land and figure out what was happening?), and obvious they had a second speed bike thing (when it flipped I just knew they were dead if they were in there - we are on episode 3.)
Great telly, but writing was a bit sloppy for me.
The Responder (2022)
Brilliant, poor ending
Ended as if a second series was commissioned or another episode was on the way. Loved it but there's too many loose ends. Felt more like a mid-season break.
Around the World in 80 Days (2021)
Great TV adaptation!
I loved this series. It's filmed well, colour graded well, shot well. Lovely aesthetic to each location. Saw some comments about political correctness, not really sure what that's about and some people probably just need to grow up. Recommended!
Intelligence (2020)
Shockingly unfunny
Avoid if you can. I like the cast and had hoped this would be funny but it's just really not. A shame considering whl is involved. Please do not watch!
The Christmas Setup (2020)
Only 35 minutes long
I just watched this on the telly in UK and it was 40 minutes with two ad breaks. Not 1 hour 25 as listed here. Okay film but so short, avoid I would say!
Big Mouth: A Very Big Mouth Christmas (2021)
Such a talented production
So much going on here! Some doesn't quite work but the fact there's so many different styles is impressive. Very funny and rude as always. Santa was unexpected!!
Schitt$ Creek: The Presidential Suite (2020)
Not sure why they broke up
I know Ted has a 2 (or was it 3) year contract, but I don't get why they both agreed (without saying anything) to break up? People go to uni for that length of time and stay together if they love each other. They could see each other a few times a year, keep the calls going. Found that sad, but there we go.
Otherwise, brilliant episode.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine: The Set Up (2021)
Handled really well and funny
I genuinely think anyone rating this terribly cannot accept the police make wrong decisions and as an institution is flawed. Great episode, really funny too!
Brooklyn Nine-Nine: Admiral Peralta (2020)
People complaining about political issues in the show are hilarious
You're watching a show you don't create. If you don't like it, watch something else. People complain when they bring up racism, I don't know how you can have an issue with that at all.
Funny episode, as per!
Brooklyn Nine-Nine: Casecation (2019)
Ignore other reviews
People seem to have an issue any time Brooklyn tackles a serious subject. It's smart the way they handle it. It's a comedy series, so adding in this now really doesn't warrant "oh why did this not happen before they got married?". Yeah, that's obvious. But it doesn't negate the points. It's how people feel. The bomb scene was well done.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine: He Said, She Said (2019)
Would give it a 7 but other ratings skew the ratings
I would completely disregard any negative reviews saying this is handling it too obvious or too much for the show. The issue is important, a lot of people don't realise how big the issue is. It's no surprise people find this annoying. It handles the issue well.
I Care a Lot (2020)
Not sure I watched same film as the 1/10 reviewers!
Good film! Not amazing but certainly watchable and a good thriller. Not sure why some think second half doesn't make sense or its written badly. Have you seen Hollywood films before?
The Drowning (2021)
Terrible drama
Average acting, ridiculous plot and drawn out. Just do yourself a favour and don't watch it.
Finding Alice: Episode #1.2 (2021)
Check the front door camera?
I don't understand why in a smart home house they haven't checked the front door camera to find out who was on the camera at the bottom of the stairs? It doesn't even make sense to have that camera pointing downstairs in the first place.
Death to 2020 (2020)
Watch it if you want to, great fun!
It's exactly what I was expecting - News Wipe 2020, told by famous actors playing "experts". Great sarcastic puns. It's hard to trust any negative reviews on here, as it's massively critical (in a funny way) of Trump, Boris Johnson, Fake News-believers, Vaccine Conspiracy believers, and also covers Black Lives Matter. So genuinely it's hard to tell if reviewers are being genuine if they're allowing bias seep in.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine: Moo Moo (2017)
Great episode
I don't usually write reviews on here but had to for this. It tackles racism really well, didn't expect it. The show has mentioned political issues from time to time and it's clear they have a diverse cast so it was only a matter of time they did something like this. Looking forward to more!
Midsommar (2019)
Hereditary walked so Midsommar could run
Such an interesting and challenging film. I watched this before Hereditary and after watching that film thought it was inferior to this. Midsommar goes further into the quirkiness, and has similar traits to it with the endings. Recommended.
Tenet (2020)
Great idea, poor execution
The concept in this film without giving anything away is really interesting and fascinating to watch. But for me the way it unfolds is a bit like reading a revelation in a book you're not sure is a big deal, flicking back through the pages, and realising it is. As it's a film you have to unpack any big moment while the scene continues. It's a spectacle at times but for me the action sequences aren't as spectacular as any other recent Nolan film, which does let it down a bit. Performances are great and the soundtrack is fascinating, but the characters are a little thin and there isn't that much of a plot going on really that makes sense to drive the plot forward in a natural way.
The Last of Us: Part II (2020)
Judge it for yoyrself
Honestly, I can't understand the terrible reviews. Gameplay wise this is head and shoulders above the first which was incredible in the first place. Story wise, it is bold and utterly engrossing and brilliant. I think the negative reviews are because people wanted a happy go lucky story. You were never going to get that with The Last of Us. It's a great, great game. Enjoy.
