Bring It On (2000)

I hate admitting how much I like this
10 August 2006
This movie is cheesy, preppy, dumb, simple and BRILLIANT! Granted I saw this when I was 14, I thought this movie was fantastic. I think the main audience for this movie is girls aged 11 - 17(ish), but that doesn't mean it's bad. It's your typical teen movie/chick flick.

Performance wise, what can I say? If you've seen Eliza Dushku in anything before - her performance is exactly the same (which in this case is OK). Kirsten Dunst is good, but how hard is it to play a blonde, teenage, cheerleader? The basic jist is The Toro's are cheerleader champs. Torrence (Dunst) is the captain. When Missy (Dushku) joins the squad she points out that all their routines are actually stolen. The Toro's ex-captain stole them of the Clovers - the Toro's rivals. In order to win the championship, the Toro's must develop a totally original routine of their own, to prove the are the best.

It's as cheesy as it sounds, but it's ideal for a girl's night in. And there are quite a few funny moments. And if your young enough to get away with it, you'll pick up the cheers. No matter how much you try not to. And the cheer-leading routines in it are pretty impressive, too.

Not the best lesbian film
10 August 2006
I liked this movie. It wasn't the best lesbian film I've seen, but it's quite sweet.

I'll get the bad points of the movie out of the way first. My main problem with the film was that the characters weren't really deep. You couldn't really relate to them much as the makers only skimmed the surface of their personalities. I felt the same way with the plot, too. It needed a few viewings before I could really get into this film.

On the other hand. Although a little bland, the characters where still quite sweet. And funny. My favourite being Judy, the loveliest drag-queen ever!

If you like romantic little stories, and are a fan of gay cinema - then you should see this movie.

Classic Burton
10 August 2006
Tim Burton is a genius. I think every Burton fan on the planet will agree that this is by far one of his greatest films.

The plot is quite simple. Barbara and Adam are a sweet-as-pie married couple who have a car accident and perish. The soon discover that they cannot leave their home now that they are ghosts, and become very annoyed when a new family move in to their house. The only person willing to help them get rid of the family is bio-exorcist, Beetle Juice. Asking for his help turns out to be a very bad move indeed.

This movie is by far a cult classic. It's weird, unique, creepy yet funny and keeps you glued to the screen. Winona Ryder plays Lydia, the Gothic, depressed daughter of the new family and she plays the role well.

If you like Tim Burton or Cult movies in general. Beetle Juice is a must-see.

Could they have cast it better?!
10 August 2006
OK, before I say anything about the movie - Christian Bale is the perfect Patrick Bateman.

This is one of very few adaptations where I'd say I like the movie and book equally. Guinevere Turner's screenplay is brilliant! The direction is fantastic. Rather than turn the book into a gory horror (which the makers easily could've done), the main themes of materialism, obsession and the strive to be the best, are all still blatant in the movie.

The film is quite creepy in some places, but not scary enough to be classed as a horror. It's also worth mentioning that all the performances were great; but Christian Bale's was utterly outstanding.

I would urge everyone to see it.

One of the good teen movies
10 August 2006
This movie is basically about 2 sisters - one a rebel, one a princess. Their dad will not allow the popular daughter to date until her sister does. There's a new boy at school who has a crush on the popular daughter. He devises a scheme where he manages to get the school bad-boy to date the rebel through bribery. But love eventually blossoms.

As far as teen movies go, very few will get 10/10. Including this. But if you are a fan of feel-good movies, comedies, chick-flicks, Rom-Com's or teen movies; then you should see this movie. It's definitely a film that you can just throw on and watch when your in a laid-back mood.

Ledger and Stiles performances are pretty good. The movie's really funny with the usual quirky little jokes that Teen Movies entail.
