House M.D.: Three Stories (2005)
Whoa!!
This episode only has one word to describe it: amazing! I could use some more adjectives but, I mean, you got my point... It gives us a vision of House and his past that we never had before and it makes us understand better why he is like he is and be more sympathetic towards him. It also shows that his staff and his friends don't know him nor understand him that well and that House really can be a good teacher and a good person. In my opinion, Cameron gets a new view of House and understands what he meant with him being her next "charity case". I wish every episode was like this one, it would be the best television show EVER (even now it's close). It definitely deserves the Emmy, it's excellent!
Grey's Anatomy: Some Kind of Miracle (2007)
Wowww
Hell, this episode just blew me away! here in Portugal, we are still in the beginning of the 3rd series, and I accidentally found this episode on the Net. God, this is great, I loved that Limbo-like idea, that was genius! really, there should be more episodes like this! Congratulations to the creators and to the actors, who were all absolutely terrific! 10/10, loved it! This episode of Grey's Anatomy had a lot of quality, a lot of great ideas, it almost resembled other great medical dramas, like House M.D. or E.R., it was really mind-blowing... Can't wait to see it again when it airs here in Portugal!
Morangos com Açúcar (2003)
Awful!
OK, I just wanted to say that I have never seen a soap opera as bad as this one, I've seen the first episode and I got sick, all I wanted to do was to turn off the TV and throw up! Here's the story of the first season, just for you to know how bad are these screenwriters... A girl that finds her boyfriend making out with another girl. She goes to the beach and, although she doesn't know how to swim (I'm taking a guess, because how the hell does anybody drowns when the level of the water is almost by its knee?) she goes into the water and starts to drown (all of this because of her boyfriend... Sweet love...). She is rescued by a surfer who is nude and, by chance, is in the same school as her and, by chance, is in the same class as her!! What are the odds?!BAD BAD BAD!!! And attention, that was just the first episode! After that, obviously, they fall in love, star to date, get mad at each other, the boy apologises to the girl, they date again, and the circle repeats itself like 20 to 30 times, just enough to keep the Portuguese youth glued to their TV sets(I only know all of this because my friends kept telling me the story every single day. After the first episode, I just refused to see any more of that). Meanwhile, something happens and the girl goes to Brazil, and the boy goes after her, and at that point the soap opera just turns a complete chaos, almost apocalyptic. They break up 30.000 times in two episodes (or so it seems), and then they're about to get married, but afterwards it's not quite like that I don't know why. If you want to know the end of this wonderful story, ask someone who is over 5 years-old and lives in Portugal, because I missed the "grand finale" and, honestly, I don't wanna know! End this, please, and I'll rest my case.
Moulin Rouge! (2001)
Good acting, good songs, good everything! Two thumbs way up high!
In my opinion, this is one of those movies which are true Hollywood material. What's Catwoman or Elektra next to this? I understand that people don't like to see musicals, or that they don't like to see what appears to be a perfect love story, because they think that's not real. I mean, I think that's the reason because some people didn't like this movie. But anyway, this movie it's absolutely awesome, fabulous, and it has everything (director, story, actors, music, ...) just great. Let's begin with the director, Baz Luhrman. This man really knows how to tell a story in the big screen, we can see that in "Moulin Rouge". OK, some of the camera moves may be a little bit extravagant, but, let's face it, it couldn't be better. It adjusts perfectly to the movie! The story... Oh, the story... By the tag lines it seems like a true cliché. Love here, love there, and they always seem happy, so we think that's just one of those "and they lived happily ever after" stories, and that's why I think that this movie it's worth watching. I mean, it's a true love story, "a story about love overcoming every obstacles", but the end it's simply genial... We get so into the story that we really wish it has a perfect ending, but it doesn't. Some of the people who left the movie in the middle may think that the movie is rubbish, but that's because they didn't stick around until the end. Last but not least, the Actors. First, Ewan McGregor. That guy has a talent to sing AND to act. That's unusual in this days. I think he was extremely convincing in his role, because he allows us to see the despair of the lost of our love, and he shows us the life, the ideals and the bohemian Paris in a way that is worthy of an applause. Now, Nicole Kidman. Not as good as Ewan McGregor, but also convincing and very romantic. She also allows us to see the rules and the life of a french prostitute in the end of the 19th Century. Now, just a synopsis of this comment. I think that this movie is great, very well directed, with a good choice of actors and excellent adaptations of many musics. Very good movie.
Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005)
Great movie
I recently saw Star Wars III-The Revenge of the Sith, I found it excellent. Great visual effects, a captivating story and a outstanding cast make this last episode of Star Wars a master piece of the cinema History. This was one of the few movies which touched me so deeply that I still think about it many days after I saw it. Once again (and I just keep saying this) I disagree with the Portuguese critics. They say that the Star Wars' characters don't have any emotional depth nor emotional complexity. Let me just remind what this third episode is all about. If I'm not in a mistake, I think that it's about the emotional troubles of Anakin Skywalker, it's about the struggle between good and evil inside his own soul. The critics of my country also think that the "love" scenes (like Padmé telling Anakin that he's going to be a father) are very innocent. I think they must be, because the Anakin and Padmé are almost like adolescents, they've just turned young adults. Anyway, I think that everyone(Star Wars fan or not) should go and see this third episode as fast as they can. For the Star Wars fans like me, I have another message:let's just hope that George Lucas fulfill the original story that he wrote, which included episodes VII, VIII and IX.
The Aviator (2004)
Very good movie, a surprise!
I saw this movie a long time ago(is three months a long time?Yes, if you want to remember all the details of a movie...), so I can't remember all the scenes, but I'll do my best. "The Aviator", it's a shame that this movie didn't win more Oscars, like Achieving in Directing, or something like that. Leonardo DiCaprio was THE big surprise. An excellent acting gave us the perfect view of Howard Hughes' world and it makes us understand his trauma. Of course that the astunig direction also plays a big role in the authenticity of the characters, because Martin Scorsese really knows how to visually tell a story. I think that, though this movie didn't win the best Oscars, it's an excellent movie and everybody should see it!!
The Interpreter (2005)
Awesome movie, great acting, excellent story!
Once and again, I'll have to disagree with the critics of Portugal (do they know how to watch movies??). They say that's too Hitchcock, that it looked like "The Man Who Knew Too Much". In that point I'll have to agree, but seriously, there are so many similar movies, and this one is the best of them, without a doubt. Let's talk about acting. Nicole Kidman is somehow inspired, lately all of her movies have a magnificent performance, but I still think that this role has the best of them(some people say that her best performance was in "Eyes Wide Shut" by Stanley Kubrick, but I didn't see that movie, so I'll just stick with my opinion). Sean Penn, another actor who is definitively inspired. This man, since "Mystic River", doesn't stop to surprise us(the audience) with great, genius performances. First, in "The Assassination of Richard Nixon". Now with this movie: "The Interpreter". But, however, I have to admit it, this role didn't give Penn the opportunity the show his "skills" like the other two movies did. But, let's face it, he did a awesome job. Now, Sidney Pollack. A classic director. Even being a director who made lots of movies, he still can surprise us with his astuning direction. Well, I've said what I wanted to say. Go to the cinema and enjoy yourselves!!!
Finding Neverland (2004)
One of the best movies of the year, if not the best!
I strongly disagree with all Portuguese critics say about this movie. They say that Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet aren't convincing in their roles. Then why were they nominated to the Academy Awards?!!! They also say that the movie is a déja-vu in the cinema history and that they don't like the fact that "Finding Neverland" appeals to their childhood. In this case, I have to agree with J.M. Barrie. Did the actually HAVE a childhood? It doesn't seem like... Well, let's forget about the critics of my own country, and now I'll say what I think about this movie. I think "Finding Neverland" is a masterpiece and it's an unique movie. The actors are strongly convincing. I'll say more: they are so convincing that I cried more watching this movie than watching "Titanic"(and believe me, that's saying something!). The last thing that I want to say about this movie is, if you didn't see it, you must try to enjoy this work of art as fast as you can!
