Drain the Titanic (2015)
Terrible.
So much time is devoted to whether the ship broke apart at the surface or further down, and the show teases you it might be answered or given info to suggest a possible break up, but then all you get is some mysterious model about debris fields that never really is explained, video of stoic men looking at computers, some fancy graphics and no answer or data to back up an answer or model of the sinking. Then a blurb about what it might look like in the future and some stuff about preservation. Waste of time.
Stranger Things (2016)
Great first season, second so so.
The first season of those show was phenomenal. Loved it. Very nostalgic. Unfortunately the second season fell a little flat for me, and that is because the main antagonist (Matthew Modine's character) is not seen in the second season. I think that is what sent the show downward. I think viewers could identify more with a human antagonist than " the darkness form another dimension etc" that has no real motive that we can understand vs what we can all understand might be Dr Brenner's motive.
Killing Eve (2018)
So far , so good.
Really enjoying this show so far. Very interesting.
Westworld (2016)
It insists upon itself.
This had the makings of a great show int he first few episodes, but the pacing was so slow after that, that it really turned me off. I am not asking for non stop action and explosions, but it was hard to watch and you could easily walk out of the room and come back 30 minutes later and not be lost.
Felix, made no sense, and did not act as a human would, and this made it unbelievable, and his ridiculous actions were what sets most things in motion. Pretty lame. I could believe it if it had been his mistake on something that propagated throughout the show, but it isn't that nuanced, he just does what no one would ever do. The rest of the story line was very predictable. The most interesting story line is only seen in a couple minute long flashbacks. Just Sad.
I read some article with the writers defending their vision. If you have to do that, it sucks. I don't know how one can have a "AI revolution/war" in the second season, against whom? All the humans that will no longer visit the park now that it is for all purposes closed? Stupid.
Roseanne (1988)
Just not the same, pretty terrible
I guess I am one of the few that grew up loving this show, but found the new episodes/reboot terrible.
The reboot simply does not have the same charm the old seasons do. Roseanne's acting seems entirely forced the whole first episode, which was cringeworthy. The fact that the Connors are apparently poor republicans with a conservative slant does not fit the Connors established in the first series. Apparently Dan feels the need to tell his 43 year old daughter how to deal with her body, and basically forbids her to be a surrogate mother using her own egg. Ridiculous. Goodman is a great actor, and his acting was great, but the change in character was unbelievable and doesn't fit the narrative that was established years ago. I think Sara Gilbert was spot on as Darlene, and she and her sister had great chemistry. In fact, the new reboot should have involved Darlene and her sister and aunt Jackie, and had Dan and Roseanne appear in limited episodes much like Roseanne's mother did previously. The story of a poor family trying to make it in america is now gone and replaced with constant political jabs and references to issues surrounding gender identity.
Here we are yet again, watching them try to resurrect a show that is no longer relevant to the time period we live in rather than move forward and create something new.
The Conjuring (2013)
Missed opportunity
This movie had the possibility of being very interesting, but failed. The Warren's were the most interesting characters, and I feel the writers/director missed making a great movie by not focusing on the Warren's cases over their career. Instead the focus was primarily on the one related to the family in the movie, with little to know focus on who the warrens really were and how they got where they were. The movie itself was rather slow to get going, but even the more active parts were not scary for a Horror film. Basically they used incredibly loud audio to get a response from audience members. The fact that the possession described was a long dead witch definitely upped the lame factor. I had high hopes base don reviews, but it was not meant to be. Save your time, and look elsewhere.
