Candy (2006)
One of my favorite sad go to's
I first watched this in high-school a few years after it came out & it hurt my heart so deeply. Heath Ledger & Abbie Cornish played a couple in love so intensely, its truly such amazing acting. I have to go without watching it sometimes because the heartache I feel from it which says alot about a film. It really is beautifully done. I love the poem toward the end, it's even on my Instagram. The music is wonderfully placed. The ending is perfect & heartbreaking. People who appreciate a good heart touching movie, I would absolutely without hesitation recommend this one. It's powerful and tragic & that's the beauty of it.
A Bad Moms Christmas (2017)
I'm surprised by the low ratings 🎄
People have a different sense of humor so I get that in the ratings but if you usually like the casts type of humor in their movies then you'll probably enjoy it. I watch it every Christmas since it came out & everytime I still lol. Personally, I don't feel like it ever goes "flat." I love the relatable moments such as how stressful Christmas can be for Mom's and how much us Mom's ourselves try to impress our own Mothers even if it isn't what we want. I like the conflict resolution of finding boundaries in their relationships and coming together in the end. All in all, I think it's a great comedy with relatable content. :)
The Fall of the House of Usher (2023)
SoOoOoOo good !
I'm a huge fan of Mike Flanagan, all his seasons have been good in one way or another but this one has a Haunting of Hill House vibe to me because it's eerie & I really like how they go through the characters one by one like he did in Hill House. The actors / actresses that Mike's has always do such an awesome job in their characters, believable. I've been an Edgar Allen Poe fan for most of my life & I really enjoyed Mike's spin on Edgar's stories. & I'm love how the ending isn't obvious, it's a good mystery. The ghosts are creepy. As a horror fan, Mike Flanagan kills it again ! This man is a genius :)
The Autopsy of Jane Doe (2016)
If you're a horror fan ~ watch this !
I'm a huge horror fan & this one def spiked into my top. It was so good the first time, I damn near watched it again immediately after. The light comedy at the beginning made the characters feel realistic. The easy going of the middle of it just flowed, very well acted. & when it hit the fan, oh boy did it hit the fan! It's not one of those horror movies where you question why the characters are stupid, they do their best to survive in this movie essentially knowing they're doomed. The setting being in a morgue in itself gives the creepy vibes & then gets worse as it progresses. & The girl who plays Jane Doe, magnificent. I read about how she is into yoga & the director wanted someone real who was able to stay still as if they weren't alive. Amazing. Pure horror genius, this movie is gold. The only thing I hated was the mystery at the end. I'm dying to know more, knowing I likely never will. I absolutely recommend this movie. Disturbingly beautiful.
Blonde (2022)
Forgets accomplishments, highlights tragedy.
Marilyn offered us so much more than this world gave to her. That's the tragic part of this movie. It didn't highlight her accomplishments, only her tragedies.
Marilyn is an icon in American history. I was excited because I love her & Ana is a great actress. The hair & makeup was phenomenal. I watched this movie because I heard it was bad, had to see for myself. They weren't lying. It was overly long. They made her out to seem like a psychotic depressed drunk. The time period, alcohol was highly accepted. Very few moments in this movie put her as intelligent as she was. Did she ever smile for real? If you assume this movie, then I guess not. They really tarnished. & Most of the movie is false. I researched what was actually truth. Is this how the upcoming generation will view her? I hope not.
It Follows (2014)
Great beginning, dull half through til the end..
The beginning was intriguing. The ending was reallllly dull. There was a direction this movie could've taken that would've been tremendously better that I kept hoping for. Yet everytime I hoped for that *wow* factor, it turned out purely bland. Super bland. & I usually rate movies higher than they're total stars. This one was boring. I started playing on my phone mid way through should've been my clue but sometimes movies hit hard at the end. Not this one. Just very flat & dull. Would not recommend. Also, not scary at all. Even the ~creepy~ characters were minimally creepy. Beginning was good atleast...
Black Mirror: Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too (2019)
It's not as bad as some make it out to be.
Honestly think people hate on this episode mostly because it's Miley Cyrus but tbh, especially with the Britney Spears conservatorship, makes this episode a little more powerful. No it's not exactly like the other trippy black mirror episodes but it def is impacting & realistic & keeps you interested. Overall I liked it enough to watch it more than once. It's not my favorite black mirror episode nut it's definitely not as bad as some reviews.
American Horror Story: The Future Perfect (2021)
Strong start...
Ultimately anti climatic. Murphy should really invest in hiring someone to do his endings for him at this rate. Also, wish they had done a background story with the aliens having to do something with the black pill, like the picture of the alien tongue black pill pale people that was promoting the series. Honestly that would've been significantly more interesting...
American Horror Story: Winter Kills (2021)
Murphy, what is up with your endings dude.
As many before, rushed. Felt like the last episode was no effort put in & just end it. Started off good too, I was like mhm why's all these bad reviews then as it progressed I was like oooh... alot of unanswered questions! Like, the other pale people it took time for them to transform where as Lily Rabes character was transformed in a millisecond. & What happens for the rest of the investigation? Did Harry get all the blame? Could've atleast threw a 2 min scene where one of the last people are reading an article about it so we the viewer would know... & why would the creator keep her steady humble experiment rather than sure let's make it completely chaotic.. free pills for everyone woohoo... Murphy, bro, I love your shows but what the hell with some of the endings.
Happy Death Day (2017)
Really enjoyed this!
Love the characters, & did not expect the killer at all. The girls attitude is awesome. The guy is adorable. It's not overly gory but has a good amount of slasher film in it. Would watch again & would recommend.
Midsommar (2019)
Just ok.
Interesting but long. Very long. Many boring parts. Lot of waiting for like a oh here we go part which fails to hit. No feelings of creepy or scary moments to me at all. Wasnt expected jump scares going in because I did read reviews but 1 star is too low, it isn't that horrible but I don't feel it's 7 star worthy either. It was just ok.
You: Bluebeard's Castle (2018)
Almost 10
Loved the very end, that was a surprise. The only reason I'm giving 9 instead of 10 is because come on some psycho has you locked up & you finally get out, you're only going to hit him once with the mallet? & then leave the mallet with him? I get it though, cant kill off the main character lol. Overall excellent series though.
The Haunting of Hill House (2018)
Perfect amount of horror
What I like most about this series is it isnt typical. It has a good amount of jump scares without going overboard, it keeps you drawn in with hints here & there. The characters draw you in, you can feel for them. You can feel for their stories. The children actors are excellent & adorable. The parents play their roles very well. The house is haunted but not to the extreme of haunted house movies. The only one thing that wasnt as great was the last episode, I mean I understand it but it begins to bore toward the middle of it, a little to sentimental but still the series is absolute excellent. I hope the writers create a second season of some sort.
The Handmaid's Tale (2017)
A very interesting tale
This series is magnificent. You can feel the energy of the environment. You can feel the passion & pain, the doubt & fear, the bravery & suffering of the characters. It's scary to think of something such as this occurring & also shows how much we have progressed as a society, especially woman. This series is what feminists fought to change, not today's BS about how there isnt a womans man mixed football team - these woman fought for real issues. I couldn't fathom having to live the lives of the woman in the past who had to endure a society as portrayed in this series. It's truly quite terrifying to think about. I love this series because it evokes emotions. It makes you love & hate characters, it makes you hopeful that they can overcome & survive the tragedy they're enduring. It's honestly excellent.
