No Hard Feelings (2023)
Laughable...But Not In A Good Way
Ignore the good reviews...they were probably written by director's family. The premise is simply preposterous...would a well-to-do middle-aged couple really hire a woman to get their 19 year-old son out of his shell and prepare him for going away to Princeton University??? And would they be as lame as Matthew Broderick and Laura Benati portray?
You can see the complications coming just shortly into the movie...I won't give it away, but shortly into the film any reasonable person can see what will happen to the poor lad.
Hollywood is running out of original ideas and this is another lame attempt at comedy and (romance???). I probably chuckled three times at the mostly trite (sometimes slap-stick) humor. It just doesn't work.
Very good acting, of course from Jennifer Lawrence and newcomer Andrew Barth Feldman...they do have good chemistry but that's about all. Jennifer Lawrence must have needed a paycheck to agree to such an inane story. Better luck next time! BTW, if you are going to purchase this just to see her nude scene, you can FF to about 34 minutes in.
Ratched (2020)
Sorry, Too Much Gore
Great premise, great cast and evidently the producers invested some money into this with excellent period sets, vintage cars, clothing, the cast, etc.
However, I couldn't get past all the blood and guts. I don't know why the writers, director and producers found the need to graphically show people being boiled in water, cutting their arms and legs off, performing lobotomies with Ace Hardware drills...and that's only the first three episodes.
Even as a big fan of One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, I can't watch any more. If you are a big fan of graphic violence and gore, you will probably love Ratched.
Groove Cruise (2017)
Skip It...You'll Thank Me Later
52 minutes of Generation Y and Millennials screaming "WHOOOOO-HOOOOOOO", drinking, snorting drugs and smoking pot on a Carnival cruise ship. Please don't waste your time.
The Irishman (2019)
Doesn't Deserve The Bad Reviews
While it was way too long at about 200 minutes, I did not find the movie boring. Having lived through the headlines of Hoffa, Bruno, Bufalino, Gallo, Provenzano, et al, I learned a lot about how things went beyond the newspaper accounts and appreciate all the explanations of what happened or might have happened.
Star studded and lots of surprising cameos from Boe Dityl, Little Stephen, Jim Norton, Sebastian Maniscalco and Johnathan Morris made the long movie more interesting. DiNero did a great job, so did Pesci, but Pacino was mis-cast as Jimmy Hoffa.
Watch it...even if you take it in in three doses.
Bird Box (2018)
Preposterous!
Godzilla was more believable than this absurdity. Totally far fetched and dull...a waste of great talent on poor story line, inconceivable premise and lack of excitement. Watch The Crawling Eye for a movie with more credibility.
The Descent (2005)
Better Than Most Horror Garbage Made In The 21st Century!
This movie is full of gore and F-bombs. However, if that doesn't bother you, it's asking full of jump-scares and is very intense...will keep you on the edge of your chair throughout. Compared to the shallow garbage we've seen in the past 20 years, it's a very good movie.
Where I find fault is in the very obvious dumb decisions made throughout...defies logic. No sex or nudity, although the creatures appear to be naked, but no close-ups and the scenes of them are mostly very dark...but, as mentioned it's very gory and loaded with profanity.
I enjoyed it but couldn't watch it again because of the gore.
Lady Frankenstein (1971)
So-So Horror For A Night When You're Bored
Could have been a good flick with a better story line and better acting. The monster was laughable at times and the movie moved along nonsensically for most part. Watch when you have a yearning for a mediocre horror flick...otherwise, save your money.
It! The Terror from Beyond Space (1958)
What Mission To Mars Would Be Without Guns, Grenades and Tear Gas?
Yes, scared the hell out of me as a kid too. Great fifties horror pic.
