good effort
1 March 2009
A good effort from Philippines even when is full of clichés,

there are some interesting shots of markets

and documentary style.... there is a good work with te actors, the narrative is clear and editing are very dynamic..... sometimes look like a bad music video and repeated the soundtrack a little, but anyway is admirable that the director said that to shoot the film he taked only three days and a half.......knowing this.....for me is amazing nd make me consider the film a good effort........ at the end, you feel like just seeing another underworld movie from Asia, very low budget that have a more or less interesting plot from the beginning but that need More psychology in the characters, the ambient is OK in general terms but makes you feel like manila is the wort and most dangerous place in the world.

life of a fascist
29 January 2006
Warning: Spoilers
A difficult film, with a kind of repugnant fascist security policeman as a "heroe", if a good film needs to open new realities in your mind this is one of the greatest even if it is hard to understand people like Ferdinand you can literally see his point of view in life and security, at the end he becomes a terrorist to prove that security measures for combat against terrorist are inefficient(very actual)is amazing that this film from 1976 deal with so modern facts, it's great that somebody like Kluge takes the point of view from the other side and made an extraordinary low key film. I truly recommend this film without expectations of any kind and open to go inside the shoes of a not your favorite character.

avant gard and popular style in one
11 July 2004
In the best style of the supernatural stories of the television sixties Tracey Moffatt give us avant gard cinematography making a stylized Australian outback mixed between real things and sets with a very beautiful and dramatical photography full of irony, humour ,suspense and tragedy; she made a very unusual films and as always with this kind of films is very hard to accept the new reality that the director propose, then after the mixed feelings regular moviegoers but just of the regular cinema that always told the same story and in the same style never creating a new world, probably could be disappointed, if you think cinema is an adventure and the approximation to new cosmovisions and of course poetry and beauty, then this is a film for you.

beauty beyond violence
25 June 2004
Monsieur Jaques Demy deserve more attention than he receives now. he made lot of brilliant films always clever and playing with borderlines close to fall in situations that could be very ridiculous, but he never fail and gives like in Parapluies de Cherbourg some of the most beautiful films ever. Les Parapluies are color, real color like nobody give us before(color as statement),is songs, never before a film was entirely sung, meaning every simple dialogue, a simple yes or no, is sung, is happiness but no an artificial one, happiness surrounded with problems like in real life; is locations that everybody knows(like a garage) in a middle of a musical, is the intelligence to tell a story beyond the easy plot solutions full of violence of these days; its a film that your old auntie can enjoy beside you and both can obtain something great for your own lives. Where at the start you just see a kitsch film, slowly becomes a masterpiece because the intelligent and coherent style of Monsieur Démy.

Yes,irreversible!

This film cannot see backwards(it's actually narrated backwards)because is out of logic and becomes incoherent when you think how will be narrated with a linear narrative because it doesn't make sense with an actual real life attitude of the characters. Yes,is a very hard film, I can resist very hard films but when these films are coherent. Very bad photography. Lot of angry and hate. Except for the violence, boring situations. Violent not only in the subject but in forms, difficult to see clearly what happen in lot of moments. Why? Never an answer or a possible proposition.
