Guilty pleasure for a native horror fan
18 January 2017
OK, maybe I am a little biased, because I am from Austria (hello Rainhard Fendrich...), but I don't get the negative reviews. So I would like to raise the attention to an overlooked point.

This is a horror comedy and I fear that either the dubbed version lost a lot of the funny moments or maybe the sense of this typical Austrians humor wasn't broad enough.

E.g. the drinking scene with the Russian investor: If you know a little bit about the country's history AND the actual consumption of alcohol it is perfectly set up.

So if you don't get the laughs it leaves you with a very simple story and solid handmade SFXs.

For me it's the perfect mix of humor, gore, fun and nice ideas.

I hope for more genre movies (action, thrillers, horror) made in Austria.

Pain & Gain (2013)

The American Dream, The American Nightmare!
11 December 2013
I am either pro nor con Michael Bay. I saw some of his movies and rated them as typical Hollywood blockbuster stuff mixed with his over exaggerated style.

For me Pain & Gain is his finest work. This insane story fits perfectly to the simple plot of the movie and Bays "faster, louder, harder" direction.

As you watch the movie you have to decide: Do you still believe it is possible to live the American dream or not? If you still believe it is possible, you may not enjoy the movie, because the 3 main characters are douche bags deluxe. They are convinced to deserve it all. If you work hard your dream doesn't have limits, therefore these guys have either.

If you have a cynical point of view about the American dream: This is your movie. You find all the madness in there: The smart advises, the greed, the lying commercials, the side effects of cocaine and steroids, the lie of working hard and getting back, the false religious callings AND the unhappy ending.

I was surprised by the movie, so give it a chance!

Rush (I) (2013)

Rush...into the cinemas!

What a movie! I am not particularly interested in the F1 or racing sports; nor did I even knew James Hunt. Niki Lauda as an Austrian bloke I knew. As I toddler I have seen him on TV and described all F1 cars as "Niki Lauda".

With the director, the cast and the trailer I had huge expectations and I wasn't disappointed.

The script is great, the director does a fine job to get you to the edge of the seat as you watch the racing scenes as well as the strong dialogs.

Hunt and Lauda are the most interesting characters since a long, long time. It's refreshing to have heroes not based on a comic! Hemsworth and Brühl do a superb job, Brühl even manages to talk in the viennese dialect of Lauda, which is really really hard(trust me, I am from Vienna and I couldn't do it).

The story is a kind of modern Shakespeare drama, with two actors giving us their best performances as actors so far.

This movie should get a bunch of Oscars (Director, Music, Sound Effects, Hemsworth, Brühl, Script).

Do not miss it on the big screen!

Lost Boys: The Tribe (2008 Video)

Not a great movie, but 10 times better then the first one!
2 October 2012
Okay, let me get this straight. It isn't a great movie.

But at least there are some good effects, nice violent fights and some naked vampire victims. And the setting is in the present, no more of this terrible 80ies stuff....

But those things suck:

1) Why do everybody refuses to be a cool vampire??? They are classy dudes. They go surfing, they play videogames, they throw nice parties e.t.c.

2) The main character Chris is a kind of envious and frustrated loser.

3) The aunt is terrible 4) The comic loving vampire hunter from the first movie is still there and he terrible sucks!

To make it simple: If you were bored to death (and not turned into a vampire) by the first movie, you do better with this one. Although it's nothing special!

Warning: Spoilers
I don't want to say much about this movie. I just want to warn you, you'll never see such a bad movie with the budget of 10.00000$.

It starts with an awful script. No characters, only stereotypes, no plot development, no nothing. It's kind of Nicki Minaj music video. Terrible colours, no lyrics, no nothing! Everybody is talking fast about uninteresting stuff, like the 90ies. Maybe I'm too old for this movie or the movie just sucks! Or teenagers are taking to much illegal stuff, I don't know.

I wish I could spoiler something, but there is nothing relevant to spoil!!!I can't remember suffering like that, while watching a movie and I've seen a lot of stuff.

So save your time and/or money and avoid this teenage nightmare at all cost!!!

The Deadliest Lesson (2008 TV Movie)

The pure evil.....taste!

Warning: Spoilers
Its my job to check movies. And I've seen a lot. The good, the bad and the ugly.

This flick is one of the most boring and bad written films I've ever seen. There are movies with small budget, where you can see some kind of commitment or flashes of ideas.

This movie is an absolute disaster!!! It is more fun to visit the dentist and get your teeth removed without painkillers, than watching this 90 minutes of nonsense.

But the worst of all: This is the most terrible, illogical and uninteresting script ever written! It even tops the lack of talent by the actors or their unwillingness to perform...

The teacher doesn't even know the bad guy, but doesn't inform the police about a murderer, because she is afraid of him? Are you kidding me? She waits until another guy gets shot. And then she got her great calling for justice and gets the feeling, she could help out as a witness...

After seeing this movie, i'm disturbed. Not by the film itself, but by the fact that someone is willing to pay for this kind of c*** or/and sacrifice 90 minutes of his/ her lifetime.
