Mad Love (1995)

Classic story, GREAT soundtrack!
11 February 2007
This is the classic tale of young love gone all wrong. Bad girl, Casey (Drew Barrymore) good guy (Chris ODonnell) fall MADLY in love with one another. She's got problems(oppressive parents, emotionally disturbed). Naturally, after she creates a series of events that screw up Matt's plans for the future & both sets of parents forbid their relationship, they RUN away together. All is going well & good until Casey completely loses it.....But the END of the movie is what satisfies. It's not your usual tragic tale with a happy ending that you're always hoping for & expecting. & as always...a great soundtrack does a lot for a movie. If you're into the early 90's grunge movement/alternative rock deal, you'll love the music & the scene with the band, Seven Year Bitch. They rock!

God Bless Blind Melon
18 May 2004
Shannon Hoon has got to be one of the most talented singers of the 20th century. I bought "Letters from a Porcupine" on DVD, and I think that it's great! It has all of their videos, including one for one of Blind Melon's greatest songs, "change," and it includes clips of them from their every day life. This is a must have for any Blind Melon fan. It's hard to find DVD's (or VHS') of bands like them. But if you listen to bands like Pearl Jam, or the Black Crowes, I highly recommend you give Blind Melon a listen. They have a very vivacious, unique sound in their music which is hard to find these days, and the lyrics are incredible. Unfortunately Shannon Hoon is deceased, now, so there won't be any follow up albums. I also own their self titles album and their album entitled "Soup", and "Nico". All of them are equally good, but to be able to actually watch them on video is a great experience, so i highly recommend it. If you're unsure as to whether or not it's worth the money, I can tell you it certainly is.

Donnie Darko (2001)
Very Very Interesting...
18 May 2004
I stumbled upon this movie accidentally, and when reading the back of it, I thought it sounded ridiculous. An evil rabbit controlling the mind of a teenager? But once I watched the movie, I found myself unusually sucked into the plot and I couldn't help but think about everything that the characters talked about. I didn't find the movie scary or unnerving @ all, however, it is one of my number one favorite movies. The idea and the plot behind it goes so much deeper than it seems. It forces you to think about a lot of things that you wouldn't necessarily think about without having watched the movie. Not only did I think the movie was extraordinary, I think it's one of a kind. There will never be another movie like this. If you haven't seen it I strongly urge you to. Any sci-fi, fantasy, horror, comedy, or even drama lover will appreciate it. It's a deep, thought provoking, psychedelic venture into the minds eye. Very VERY cool...

The true story...
18 May 2004
It feels wrong to be sympathetic toward a person who deals drugs for a living, but after watching this movie (being based on a true story)I have a completely different view of George Jung. The first time I watched it, I watched it because I'm a fan of Johnny Depp. I always felt he played his best role in "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas," however, now it's hard to decipher which was better, his role as Raoul Duke, or George Jung?

The story of George Jung's life is a truly amazing one considering he starts out dealing marijuana, and his own mother has him sent to jail, and then he winds up trafficking cocaine with Pablo Escobar, and becoming as rich as Penelope Cruz is beautiful. He finally decides to straighten his life out for his daughter, and winds up back in jail for the rest of his life. The end of this movie is as sad as the story itself. I've never stayed as interested in a movie that was over 2 hours long as I did with this movie. It's a great, climactic story, and I would recommend it to basically ANY movie lover. I don't know a single person who hasn't seen it, and walked away disliking it. Johnny Depp deserves an Oscar. He's an incredible actor, and George Jung was an incredible man.

....Whoa
18 May 2004
I have to admit, I've seen some extremely weird movies, but NEVER have I walked away from a movie with this kind of ambivalence...I can't decide exactly what the point of this movie was, or how someone could possibly put it together but I liked it at the same time. I walked away from this movie feeling like there may be something wrong with me, just from having watched it! I don't understand why John Malkovich was the character of choice, or why there was a seventh and a half floor...but it was very unique, and possibly the most original movie of the 20th century. Cameron Diaz does a great job of playing her character, and the fact that her character is so complex is really great which also goes for John Cusack. the idea of people being able to delve into other people's minds is insane, imagining what you could do and the kind of power you would have. I wasn't exactly sure of what to make of it at first but the end reveals all. I think it's the kind of movie you have to watch more than once to really decide how you feel about it. But it's still a must see.
