first class meditation tutorial
3 January 2021
I've only seen the first two lessons, but as a teacher at an online pagan school where meditation is the foundation of all that follows, i can tell this show is in the right headspace.

I've always claimed I can teach someone to meditate in 3 minutes and the first lesson was nearly exactly what I would have taught someone and they took little longer than that.

highly recommended for everyone. /guy (silverlocke)

2+ hours of pure delight!
27 June 2020
I gave spinal tap a 9.0 and this one the same. they are both musical shows, but spinal tap is more acerbic and cynical whereas this one is pure heart--i not only wasn't bored for one second of the running time, i had to pause a half-dozen times because i was laughing so hard i couldn't catch my breath. and i cried at sigrit's song.

this movie is a sure cure for virus doomscrolling and i can't recommend it highly enough. /guy

a monkey could have produced a better quality film
10 July 2019
The archival video was all blurry. i know it wasn't all shot with an 8mm kmart camera. but the audio is the worst. the background music overpowers everything and whoever the audio engineer responsible for how this got released should be flailed and skinned. i found it impossible to pick out actual dialogue and when you have recording of historical figures, how in godz name do you blare music so loud you can't hear them. i can't believe this actually got released in its current form and i deeply wanted to see it because i was part of that era. sad. very sad. /guy

can't believe this movie has a 6.6 rating
7 January 2019
I also can't believe i watched all of it. perhaps i was waiting for it to get better, but sadly, it was wretched from beginning to end, from acting to plot to the writing and the crappy film quality--it reminded me of a very bad 80s pr0n film as far as quality and acting and dialogue.

it's amazing how many movies use the conceit of providing character insights by dint of a therapist or a friend or girlfriend asking them questions or providing narrative about them. it really annoys me when this is so obvious that i notice it and then it annoys me and nags at me as i dislike being manipulated. and the producers created and assigned the female lead to do exactly that for like 94% of the entire movie and she was super annoying.

but far surpassing her annoyance factor was the male lead--the dullest, most uninteresting, most emotionless, most stick-up-the-ass person in existence and the last person on earth to be a subject of a movie. and i still don't know if the character was written like that and the actor was brilliant or that the actor created the lack of character by being emotionless.

worthless dreck, imo.

a very cute and unassuming jewel
7 January 2019
A very cute and unassuming movie with great characters and actors and more importantly, a great plot and writing. perhaps the best part of all was the 'ending' which you could take as supernatural or psychic or maybe an unreliable narrator. and that was perfect for an ending to such a movie. a very solid 8.0 and very highly recommended to all. watched it on amazon prime. also, i had to edit this review closely in order not to even display a minor spoiler as you need to experience every bit of it as things unfold.

btw, this movie had many elements of one of my favorite books of all time, 'portrait of jennie'. i think that's why i enjoyed it so much.

my idea of a near-perfect movie
5 January 2019
What more can i say than what's in the title of the review? for those who are bored when the explosions per scene ratio falls below 10:1 i can only pity you. one of my only complaints is that since the two songs in the rv camp were so beautiful, i wish they'd emphasized more background music of that caliber. /guy

pushed all my buttons, and in a good way
21 May 2017
i love apocalyptic dystopias and time travel and, of course, Japanese schoolgirls in their uniforms and blood and gore if it's ironic. throw in an unreliable narrator and you've hooked me. and i was hooked all the way in this movie. i kept stopping it to shoot frames--many of which i plan to use for memes on facebook, they're so pithy. most from 'sur' of course!

towards the end i suspected it might fall apart when the big reveal came, but every time i formulated a guess, it would twist slightly and, although i'm not about to reveal anything, it was not only not a cheap cop-out, some serious issues were raised about the future and us as a society.

btw, the only movies i give 9s to are epics such as lotr, for geniuses such as kubrick, and the occasional quirky black comedy. this movie earned the 9 from me fair and square with its imagination. my only quibble is i wish they could have afforded better effects in a lot of places, but the bus scene jerked me bolt upright in my chair and that was the intended effect, so they got their money's worth.

wonderful offering from netflix
22 January 2017
i have never felt the need to review a movie on IMDb up until now, but it would be a shame if others miss out on this gem. /guy

* evidently my review is too short for IMDb. it might be awhile before i review another one with that sort of inane requirement. there is a great quote, wait, i need filler so i'll go get it .....

.... "My Letters were not wont to come so close one in the neck of another, nor yet to be so large. The short time I have had hath been the cause of both. I had not made this longer than the rest, but that I had not the leisure to make it shorter then it is." ~Blaise Pascal.

is that enough for you IMDb? take the hint--it's harder to write a short review that's good than a meandering longer one. /guy

* geeeesh! now IMDb is telling me i didn't spell netflix right. i'm pretty sure that the characters are all in the right places and they just have some moronic requirements for capital letters.

this will definitely be my first and last IMDb review. you guys can soldier on without my opinions, i'm sure. /guy

absolutely brilliant movie
23 December 2015
i've never reviewed a movie on IMDb before. i review them on my facebook page when i feel the urge, but i'm supremely unqualified to do so. although what the qualifications would be, i don't exactly know.

first, let me say that black comedy is a category which seems to impact me and stick to me longer than nearly any other genre. and i'm a sucker for the unreliable narrator as well and they usually go hand-in-hand.

when i say this movie was brilliant, i have no proof of it, no one single detail which would qualify it, but i do know it held me enthralled from beginning to end. and yes, there were a couple of rough patches where i thought the script sort of wandered off track, but then, i didn't write it, so it might well have been exactly what they intended and that one scene or two or an exchange of dialogue just didn't resonate with me.

i completely understand this genre is not for everyone and the comedy goes right over the heads of many people--too many things seem to do so these days.

i apologize for the wandering 'review', but i just think it deserves 2-3 stars more than the IMDb is showing as the average. don't let the slightly low rating keep you from watching it.
