Star Trek Into Darkness (2013)

Excellent movie

Went to see this film and had the choice of 2D or 3D so thinking it would be brill in 3D that's where i went so wrong got the feeling it was made in cheap 3D there was a kind of light haze in the whole film and the best 3D was the sequence at the end when the credits go up you see planets in real 3D very disappointed with that so been a true fan went to see it again the next day in 2D and in my opinion it was so far better than the first version in 3D, (Had to get that off my chest).The 2D blew my mind the special effects where brilliant the acting was first class and the direction was, well JJ you get my vote every time outstanding,strong story line keeps you with the film all the way through and ends leaving you wanting more the way all good things should.. If you thought The Sopranos where good

This has to be one of the best crime drama serious to come out of rte in a long time, the acting is superb the drama is edge of the seat and story line never leaves the watcher in any confusion about what is going on its a bit like being part of the story you get so engrossed and the action never leaves you wanting, I would love to see a full length film from the writer Stuart Carolan and i will be looking out for any thing else he may have done this is a total recommendation with no res aversions about the quality of this crime/drama i gave it 9 out of 10 only because i had to sit and watch the ads on telly as well not really the shows fault lol

Battle Los Angeles (2011)

good old USA will overcome

This is a good action movie the story never loses the plot its akin to black hawk down it has that type of intensity about it but not as good as that film,

its a well told story and does not wonder off the main event which is the battle to save L.A. the characters are real and you feel there tension as they struggle to be the last man standing. If your not a SF buff then don't worry as you never really get bogged down with the alien side of the story what there politics are, or non of that rubbish that some times causes a film to leave the story far far behind. The story moves at a nice pace and everything that happens ,happens at the right time and not like some movies that take you here and there trying to make you see other sides of the same story and as the man said its not over till the fat lady sings over all it was worth the money and i left thinking that was good value and entertaining for the 116 min it lasted

The Mechanic (2011)

A movie well worth the 2nd time around

Its not often you see a remake of a movie that does credit to its predecessor this is one such film.

when you look back at most of the remakes they never do what there suppose to do and that's to make the film with there own identity stamped on it and there own version of the characters played the way they feel it should be and not copy and paste the characters like I'm just here for the money. This is a remake as you know but the actor Jason Statham and his side kick Ben Foster take the movie to new levels that make it look like oh wow don't remember that and this happening great action and it moves at a regular pace never letting you slip into boredom because you have seen it before the story is also not a direct copy so you are in for a treat

Buried (2010)

A must see movie

This has to be one of the top movies of 2010 it is a must see film the star of the movie Ryan Reynolds (ie) Paul Conroy, an American truck driver working as a contractor in Iraq in 2006 who is taken and held for ransom. He played the role so well you can feel his torment and pain ,and to be able to bring this sort of suspense and fear to the audience its like being in a real time movie as it happens edge of the seat excitement you will never know what you can do till you have to do it wow. I never thought i could sit through a movie with just the one person holding my attention all the way to the end, This is Top Notch movie making at its best, a true life sense of what people can do to other people for whatever reason they think makes it right don't miss Buried

True Grit (2010)

nothing in this film worth paying for( Bad TV Movie)

This had all the makings of a great film but the director went in my opinion to close to the old movie, it was as if he had no imagination of his own to create the suspense and trill a good movie is made to give you, he might as well have pasted photos over the old actors faces as the film and dialog where as near to a copy you will ever get without the drama and tension.Having said that if you where seen this film and not having seen the old film you might get a little enjoyment out of it but not a lot, the acting is very wooden like they new they where following in the foot steps of all the great actors in the first true grit this came across as a rip off and a low budget rip off of a true Western master piece,if this wins an Oscar then the Oscars are fixed if you want a good western see the old version it leaves this one in the horse box where it belongs(A true western fan)

Just seen this the other night and thought it did not compare or stand up to the old version the old one had more fun and wit to it,this tries hard maybe a bit to hard and fails to get the fun or intent across everything about it was predictable you could not really call this film an action adventure journey it was to predictable. The actors must have found it hard to follow in the steps of the old TV serious actors and maybe that is the problem with this film it tries to hard to be like the past should have done it in there own style and made the character there own it was a fine cast and it could have been so much better alas it just did not do it for me, the heights it reaches are just below a bad TV movie i gave it 4 only cos i like some of the actors in it and know they can be so much better wait till it comes to TV where it belongs.. noel
